Good for you @CanDoCannabis
I was USAF, Hydraulics C-141 and C-5 aircraft.
Took a couple years doing, but got my rating. Ive heard horror stories of several years with some folks.
Started out 40%, then 50%,moved up to 70… then finally hit 100%. It’s a process, no doubt…
love those Rain Science bags
Will try AirPots one day…
I am drooling over here - that lobster roll looks absolutely amazing!! Kennebunk the only (What?) in the world? Intrigueing - Hope you and Gie are having a wonderful time - looks like StanLee and Starky are being well looked after, even if Iris is ignoring them
Hey Jim, I am using the rain science bags and my plants are drying out. are you doing anything special that you were not doing with the octopot sleeves? This is starting to get stressful.
I honestly dont do anything different with the Rain Science bags.
I will say they react quite differently than the Rocket sleeves with the Octopot.
Just to be sure… youre using Rain Science bags with the Octopot? Not regular, non-Octopot grow.
Here’s how I do it…
Fill Rain Science bag with soil. HP Promix is what Im using lately.
Soil into hydro-wick first, making sure cup is packed fairly well, but not too crazy. Then, continue to fill making sure its packed consistently.
Top-water .5 gallon of RO water with no nutes, but PH’d to roughly 6.0. Keep water mostly to center of Rain Science bag, but at the end I spread water around enough to cover all the soil.
Push #2 pencil into soil eraser first, until eraser and metal tip fully into soil. Then drop seed into soil. Lightly cover hole with loose soil after seed dropped.
Sometimes I’ll spray a bit of water in the “Drop Zone”, usually not. Doesnt seem to make a difference…
Wait for the pop.
Ive noticed and mentioned on this or my 2x4 Money-pit thread that the Rain Science bags stay much drier than Rocket Sleeves (and guessing OG sleeves as well).
Soil gets super-dry and cracks quite a bit. Ive been worried, but it doesnt seem to go further than that, or become a problem.
The top 1/3 to 1/2 of soil is dry. The outside of soil is dry, even down low. Much drier than Rocket Sleeves used prior.
Hasnt been a problem for me yet, and Ive ran 4-5 plants with RS bags. Next step is Airpots.
Just for reference… I can hear an audible “knock” when knocking on my top soil. Its THAT dry. Its basically become structural, lol. Just there to support the massive main stem.
Thank you Jim. I have stopped using a fan in the early stages of growth. I got some bad seeds from Humboldt and they were not reaching the reservoir and drying out. I am not going to waste any more time on weak seedlings. By the way Humboldt made good on the seeds and gave me a code for another pack.
I am also having problems getting the roots to go through the wick. I may be packing it too tight. I was using the regular sleeves with the straps and the roots grew along the edge of the bag instead of through the wick.
