James' Money-Pit Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Octopot!

Thanks, dude!
Simple answer is yes. But to what degree and what it exactly does per cultivar and pheno is open…
The UVA spectrum ACI uses would be good for possible color enhancement and possible terpene enhancement.
UVA and UVB is in the sun-drenched outdoor grows, so why shouldn’t we use it indoors if were able? I have my bars on 10 all through flower and even in late veg.

If I had an open room, I might be prompted to use UVB. That is much more aggressive and is also found naturally in the Sun. That one can also give possible enhancements to terpenes and colors, but really goes deeper than UVA. You would not be able to use that all day long, and it can definitely be harmful to people and plants. UVB in the lower range can also be targeted towards pests and mold. You won’t find many UVB LEDs because they burn out too fast. Solarsystem and other manufacturers make high quality tubes.

UVC is filtered out by earth’s atmosphere, so it does not naturally come into play with cannabis, so I won’t even address that further.

It seems many people talk very loosely about UV and really don’t know the differences and the spectrums that UVA and UVB cover. I’ve tried to do as much reading on it as I could in the past year or so. Minimal to moderate enhancements especially if you employ UVB for a short time, like an hour or two per day. UVA you can blast pretty much all day long. I’ve had tikihsc going with UV this entire time and she’s looking awesome. Powie Pineapple in the other tent just got UVA recently in mid-flower. She will harvest this weekend.

I would advise to watch some of the Bruce Bugbee videos completely. I’ve seen many people misquote Dr bugbee many times on the internet. They use little Snippets or apply his UVA info towards UVB and vice versa… UVA and UVB are completely different parts of the spectrum and have wildly different effects on cannabis… UVA is definitely the safer alternative, but effects are going to be minimal, and possibly not even noticeable unless you do a head to head grow off. UVB on the other hand would be more obvious if implemented correctly.

In my current set up of UVA only, I may never note a difference… but then again, my weed may just end up a pinch better, possibly even an unknown “quality” about it.
For the minimal monetary outlay, I’ll say its worth it.

A few Monday shots…

Day 47, Week 7 Flower
Got a lil excited, and she was on empty, so I gave her Week 8 (actually Week 5) nutes a couple days early…

Moved HLG and UVA lights to 15" from 18".
A bit higher Ppfd, but deeper penetration is the name ot the game with this move :100:

Looking good Jim, have you tried any of the discoloured branch that you chopped early yet?

Thanks Igor!

lol, that stuff lasted under a day. It was just around an eighth. Everyone loved it! But that was the Powie Pineapple grow harvesting this weekend…
That wasnt just discolored. Totally stunted with no additional growth for almost 4 weeks - just slow death and trichome development on what was there.

Day 51, Week 8 Flower

Tent stats just prior to wake up

Decent numbers with lights off . RH a bit high, though.

Lights on brings up temp and lowers RH… Good VPD numbers
Still plan to harvest weekend of :turkey: Thanksgiving

Tiki HSC looking good on Day 55 Flower.
These longer running strains really throw me off. Its a game of uncertainties :100:

Looking great as always! I’m glad you have the two tents so you can get something else going while this finishes out. Also this relates to both grow logs: thank you for continued Stanlee pics! he’s so great. Like the humans are lovely too, but that pupper. :sob:

Just ordered my AC Infinity Controller AI. Probably wont arrive until Christmas-ish…

I skipped the last controller “Upgrade” which was just additional ports (69 Pro+), but nothing else. Ive been using dual Controller 69s for a while now, I love having two sensors plugged in providing climate info in two areas of my 2x4 as well as an outside sensor built-in to monitor conditions outside your tent, or if you ulilize a lung room.

This one looks good. Shoulda jumped earlier

Dont know if I’ll get a second unit for the 2x2 grow. Probably not.

Hey Jim, I know I’ve asked about your light before, and I know you hate repeating yourself  so I’m probably on my last life here but… if I remember right you have an ACI Evo 3, but I think my question pertains to most ACI lights? I’ve seen that they have a sunrise/sunset feature which I presume is a gradual fade up/fade down at lights on/lights off, my question is is that feature available just with the light plugged into a timer, or is it only available via one of those “controller” modules?

No worries, Igor! :beers:

Ive got the EVO4 lamp. Its for a 3x3, but fits in 2x2 as shown in my mini-pit grow.

I’d have to look, but I’m pretty sure that feature is built-in to the controller that comes with the lamp. I dont use that controller, as Im using the Controller 69Pro to control everything. That controller DOES have the Sunrise/Sunset feature as shown in my screenshot below…

If you notice, I have it set to control my HLG350R to switch on and off per schedule, and for this post I turned the simulation on for 10 minutes

And there’s your answer! Built into the ACI EVO series controller…

Ah, ok, perfect thank you! That makes sense that it can be “bypassed” in the controller. That’s good to know, I think the Evo3 would be my next light if or when I could justify it, and I liked the idea of that feature, although I don’t think I would ever go for the controller.

Thursdays in-tent cam shots… Day 57, Week 9 Flower

Im really liking these  daytime numbers :100: Nice RH too :beers:

Getting cooler now and night-time temps dropping. Hopefully get some good colors from Tiki Hawaiian Snow Cone.

Night time temps  in the high 60s. Love it!
RH not too terrible at mid 50s

This one seems pretty dialed-in so far. A bit too much light earlier on probably stunted things a bit.

First day of Week 9, so will give Week 6 nutes today or tomorrow. Need to check res and see what my level is…
