James' Money-Pit Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Octopot!

Here’s Tuesday’s Trichome shots… Cloudy with a chance of harvest, I’d say

And a few Wednesday evening canopy shots…

Grabbed some lunch with Stanlee while in between appointments. He loves Freddys, and they love him :100: Used a Veterans day free combo coupon :beers:

Here’s a lil bud porn…

Well…
My 12 Week Flower seems to be done, Im thinking.

This puts a wrench in things.
Really looks like she should be harvested now. As in this coming weekend.
I think weekend of 23rd is too long, and my original “prediction” of Thanksgiving weekend wll fry these things. Theres a decent showing of amber trichomes already. Just entering Week 10 now at Day 64 Flower.

Nutes are the highest she’s had during last feeding, so no chance to slow her down. Just roll with it

Gotta go pick up my hopefully gently used second Cannatrol unit this Saturday, so thats happening.

Guess Ive no choice but to harvest Tiki Hawaiian Snow Cone this Sunday. :100:
Anyone in Vegas, and wanna help trim this beastly gal? Should be a genuine fun time!

Thursdays in-tent cam shots…

She’s on high nutes right now. Thought she’d go another couple of weeks. I’ll just let her drink it up.
Light down to level 6

Fridays unscheduled out the effendor pics…
Day 65, Week 10 Flower.

Lights on earlier than the usual 9am time slot…
7am wake up today, and lights will stay on level 6 through Saturday evening, then off until Sunday mornings harvest.

As of last night, there was around 1.5 gallons left in Octopot. She’s still drinking nutes at around 2.6 EC… Ouch! Thats a BIG No Bueno at end of cycle… Is what it is…
I really thought she’d go another 2-3 weeks being Hawaiian Snow Cone, but trichomes tell a different story :100:

Driving out to Cali tomorrow morning with Stan and Gie… Gonna hang outside LA area for a while, grab a nice lunch and pick up used Cannatrol unit. Then back to Vegas for Sundays harvest :100:

What could go wrong!?

Picked up second Cannatrol in Highland, CA.
$750… Woo-hoo! :100:
Fingers Crossed… It’s plugged in and “warming up” now.

Also picked up this lil guy…

Using up some time before picking up the Cannatrol, we stopped in at Petco… Gie fell in love :100:

Haven’t named him yet. Gie is liking “Kali” :beers:

Looks like Cannatrol unit is reaching for presets. Need for tomorrows harvest for sure.

Sunday harvest day…
Day 68, Week 10

Each shelf weighed out and marked. Will try and track water loss percentage

Cannatrol readings as of around 8pm. Started run around 3 or so. Kinda unsure. Loaded this one, shelf by shelf as were producing nugs.

Todays out the effendor pic…

So, I forgot to get a shot of the control panel this morning…

RH is now at 72%, so things are definitely moving along. Started out over 75%…

Water tray is over half-full. I’ll empty it tonight once Im back home. I’ll dump into measuring cup this time to see total amount of water removed first 24 hours.

Looks like just a hair over 1 cup of water removed.Thats roughly 8oz/half pound. RH 71%

Cup and sponge now in the game…

End of first full day of dry

Each shelf weighs approximately 165 to 180 g. I used 175gram on my calculations

Looks like around 25% water weight loss over the first night

How is the flower from the Cannatrol? Have you done any comparisons to hang drying? :beers:

I honestly havent gotten a great Dry and Cure from Cannatrol yet. I dont have a direct comparison for any batches, because Im just not willing to separate my drys and dont want to babysit a dry in my tent.

My first two harvests in my 2x4 were conventional drys. Did right in my tent. Dried around 4-5 days and very smokable/vapeable right then, with great taste that just got better over a couple weeks to a month. First dry was five 5-Gallon plants partially wet trimmed then finished after dry. Second was Electrify. She was put in tent totally wet, just each branch cut and hung… then full dry trim.

I stil have 3 strains left from the original two conventional harvests. Its been in Cannatrol since it arrived ealier this year. Still vapes well and has good flavor after grinding.

Cannatrol Blue Dream and Skywalker OG seemed lifeless, but I may have burnt off terps on those two. They were just 7 days each, then into Grove Bags. Blue Dream first, then Skywalker OG.

LSD was a full Cannatrol run on 8 Day default settings. Similar lifeless taste. But again, I was running high PPFD and may have burnt off terps.

Still pending final cure for @BobbyBudz Powie Pineapple.
Powie Pineapple has no such terp loss. I made sure to NOT abuse her with too much light - especially toward end of run. She’s been drying/curing since Nov 2nd. Seems pretty good so far. Gassy tones Im getting…

Tiki Hawaiian Snow Cone is just on Day 2 of Cannatrol 10 Day Dry, but she’s “super-sticky”. Thats my bud Vern and his wifes words. Stickiest stuff theyve trimmed in their years.

As someone who vapes, taste is really important to me. My friends and co workers all love my stuff. Say its some of the best around. They compare it to the weed they get from local dispensaries and local independent sales-people. But they all smoke. Its always smooth, and when smoking, I dont notice anything bad at all.

Its just the taste for vaping doesnt seem to be there yet. Im working on it, and have enough faith that Ive picked up a second Cannatrol unit.

What I really love is the ability to store my stuff easily. That second unit is for storage only at this time.
68° and 54.3° keeps it at 61ish RH

Great details. I’m sure you’ll get it dialed in. Then smooth sailing from there. I’ve been interested in these for a while - just not as patient as you to get it set up right. :beers:

Shedding weight…

Some kief from Blue Dream /Skywalker OG and Powie Pineapple…
Forgot to get a better shot of the amounts in those jars. Blue/Sky is 3/4 full and Powie Pineapple is half full at roughly 6-7grams.

Didnt weigh all trays tonight. Should be fairly consistent.

Another 52 grams lighter since yesterdays 24-Hour weigh-in
404 grams on Harvest Sunday
344 grams after 24 hours - 60 grams lost
292 grams after 2 full days drying - Tuesday evening - 52 grams lost

Approximate weight of this particular tray is 175grams
So approx weight at start was 229 grams of just bud weight.
after two full days drying, weight is now 117grams…

Lost right around 50% of bud weight so far.

Here we are. Almost 3 full days into the Dry

Over a cup of water

To overflowing… Just a bit

Well over a cup removed this morning. Should have emptied out yesterday early evening, but wanted to see just how full she might get.
ANSWER: Too full

Basically holding at roughly 68° F and current RH is 68%

Lots of water removal going on

Stan thought it might be a good time to check some bud moisture. Took a bit of convincing, but I agreed… :100:

Looks like new weight for this tray is 267grams. Down another 25 grams from yesterdays reading :beers:

Ambient RH showing 49% RH after just over 3 hours  just a bit higher at 78%

Couple of nugs measuring out a bit high. Pretty much what I was expecting.

Dont need to really be concerned until day 7 or 8 of the dry. I think last batch came out of Trol on day 7 or 8, but should have stayed longer. It took a day or two in open Grove bags to get RH in the comfort zone.

This time, gonna leave some in the Cannatrol and just see what happens vs Grove bagging…

Thinking Im gonna pull 10-11oz on this one

Trichome Thursday!

Stan and Starky definitely curious…

After a minute or two of agitation with hands…

Trichomes a plenty!

In total, around 14-15grams of kief.

I REALLY gotta start using this stuff…

Ive been tracking water/weight loss daily since harvest.
Harvested Sunday 11/17/24 weight incl tray was 404g
Trays each weigh between 160-185g.
Unsure of this trays actual weight, but they are all consistently inconsistent :100:

Currently (as of last night) at roughly 35% of total weight wet from harvest. Tray weight approximated.
On Day 5 of scheduled 10 day Dry Cycle

Sun 404
Mon 344
Tues 292
Wed 267
Thurs 255

Cannatrol down to 65% RH yesterday late afternoon. Same this morning.

Uh-Oh… Daddy’s got the power tools out :bomb:

Been wanting to try something out for a while, and decided to make a move…

I drilled large enough hole for drain tube to fit  through. Once in place, pretty much flush with back edge of Cannatrol :100:

With this Kitchen Bin in place, I can catch drainage from full harvest and should stay below the handle cut outs :beers:

I really wanted to use @Kgrim water tray, but after seeing it in use, it would cause my Cannatrol to stick out even further  from my wall and hit my baseboard.

My sticking point with the Cannatrol Cool Cures size isnt the total volume of the unit, Im fine with its volume. My gripe is its slightly narrower than others width and more than “slightly deeper” depth compared to other units. And by units, were talking wine cooler shells. Most are a bit wider to save depth and sticking out too much.

Is what it is, but makes Kgrims Katcher a valuable upgrade that I unfortunately cant incorporate at this time.

There are other options that can definitely work well.

Be great if someone designed something to take up that empty space on the bottom of the unit. I thinkg I saw something a while ago maybe on Facebook group
Could design a nice purpose-built reservoir to fit in there.
I just dont have 3d printer and dont need another time sucking side project, lol
