If this is the Maggie’s Farm I am thinking about, I’d be answering that callback! (Phish? Monkton, VT?) hehe Thats a VERY special place…
Morning fellas …damn this time change is a drag…go to work in the dark get home dark in a hour …thinking about rigging some stadium lights around the property so I can get some shit done …gardens all cleaned man cart after cart after cart …tomatoe vines that could wrap up ten men at once … I need a tractor
Also trying to get some hunting in on top of work work and house work need to wrestle up some more hay never can have enough during winter …compost pile is full of all garden scraps first time home buyer and a lot to prepare and do cleaning up their mess ….kinda put the ladies on back burner for a few I still go and say goodnight to them every night though …okay shit I got caught up in that my bad haha
Slowly been cleaning out the veggie garden here. Its easier here though, I pull the dead plant and toss over the fence. Right there on the spot LOL. Then I’ll rake up debris, toss that over the fence and dump my yards leaves in its place… till spring when its tilled in… I do gotta shut down water features (NFT gutter hydro system for lettuce, the koi pond, and still gotta drain and winterize hottub, its been off for weeks and looks like a pond on the edge of the deck now). Last maple still holding a few leaves, once they drop I’ll do the yard. Why do that work twice or more? lol
You have as many extra tomatoes as we had… Early in the season I was worried we wouldn’t have many, by the end of the season we were tossing em over the fence for having so many we couldn’t give enough away. Lemon cukes are like perfect baseballs LOL
Man we’re actually kinda on top of it this year, wife cleaned out the garden beds and we planted our garlic and shallots and onions to over winter, still need to pull the buckets of potato’s though, I’m hoping those haven’t rotted by now with all the rain we’ve had, but if that’s the only thing that gets overlooked by the time the snow flies here i consider it a win.
@Nagel420 you got a hot tub bud? Outdoors? Wife’s been pushing to get one here, tell me it’s worth the maintenance…
@JohnnyPotseed was wondering how the AG is looking. For the ones you topped, do they kinda look lika Jewish Manorah?
I had one out on my deck. Loved sitting in it in the snow. I stopped using it when I couldn’t leave the husband alone. Mine used mineral filters so, I didn’t have the maintenance. I don’t use it at all now as it didn’t get winterized when he got bad. I sure do miss it.
I want to grow a Kosher Kush clone out like this for my best friend of 30+ years who is Jewish.
He doesn’t smoke, but agreed if he DID I’d provide him with 8 joints of Kosher Kush to replace the candles, and you light the day’s joint with the flame from the actual Manorah’s corresponding candle!
Yuppers… Minimal maintenance, only really getting the chemistry adjusted the first time. I need to get a new top for mine, got my tub as a freebie from a friend, and its on the older side (only has like 10 jets, not 42 gazillion), but for free and working? I’ll take it. You can likely find a free one on craigslist if you will “remove it” for the previous owner, I’ve seen lots by me. Need 4-6 guys and a small trailer, but its doable… As I said, I need a new cover, so I’m shutting it down for this winter (using that savings on electric to pay for a new cover ) because my cover is so waterlogged and shot, its useless to insulate, and I pay too much to keep it heated now. Next winter will be a new cover and all winter long As @G-paS said, sitting in it when its snowing is awesome. Always made it a point to jump in the hottub on the first snow of the year
I went with Bromine. Much less maintenance than chlorine. Especially with heat and bubbles, chlorine can swing alot, where bromine was more stable. Just get pH and Alk right, then bring bromine up, and keep tablets in the dispenser…
Even draining and cleaning it isn’t that hard really, its only a few hundred gallons and can be drained, cleaned and refilled by lunchtime if ya needed to REALLY clean it (like powerwash it)…
Oh, and when I bought my first hottub, new with the ex wife, we learned there are yearly models, and last years get deeply discounted (50% off cause ours had a previous years S/N). Our salesman also had the worst pitch ever… “90% of people who buy a hot tub dont use them much, 10% use em all the time, which are you?”
Uh, good way to put some doubt in my head dude! We paid $5k for that tub, but honestly, if ya got a few friends, can disconnect a few wires (220v, but you should have a breaker nearby) you can probably score one for free, or minimal $$…
Nice, yea I got a buddy who lives farther up on the mountain who is one, it’s great for soaking sore bones and joints after snowboarding etc. but he’s always bitching about the maintenance. Might have to keep an eye out for one of those freebie options though
There only so much we could give away and can haha eventually we will get in the swing of things previous owners been doing it here for 25 years
10 to 1 he’s using chlorine. I hated chlorine. Bromine is almost set n forget once you shock it with the initial bromine kit. assuming any makeup water is relatively neutral ph and alk is similar.
Its good for soaking sore bones, but there’s a point where its just delaying the inevitable lol. When I raced ATV’s, races were sunday. If I soaked sunday night / monday I felt good on tuesday and wed / thurs felt like shit. If I waited till tuesday to soak, it just got better and better. Guess thats why athletes get those ice baths (nope, not for me, no thank you). But when its going I do enjoy a good sunrise soak. And in the summer I have the heat cycle only on in the super early morning to warm it for a morning soak, then its off by 8am. by 3pm the tub has cooled to a warm pool temp, so if its a really hot day you CAN cool off in it too Gotta have heat cycles all winter to keep lines from freezing though…
@Nagel420 and @Rabeats2093 why didn’t/don’t you preserve tomatoes?
@Phil_Bombs , they looking good, I’ll grab a pic when I go back out to the barn. I just took a break to come in for more coffee lol
@LegsMahoney , we hd one outside for over a decade, heated/cooled etc all the bells n whistles lol It is most definitely worth it! We got ours, a7-person (the one with gazillion jets, @Nagel420 lol) a guy had a hot tub company and sold the ones he replaced around the DC suburbs as reconditioned. I caught it before he worked on it, so it was cheap. all that was wrong they had a water line freeze lol
So we got a $8000-$10,000 awesome hot tub for 250 bucks!
@JohnnyPotseed Oh we did have like fifty cans and two people probably go bad before we use it all !! Gave away about five buckets of them …tomatoe vines were growing on other side of green house …the even busted ope the side of the green house and continued growing …don’t even get me started on the asparagus field
They were still alive when I cleaned it out a week ago tons of green tomatoes if I closed them flaps I woulda had tomatoes well into November
Love them fried green tomatoes!
We make some sauces and preserve, we give away a ton as well. most of whats left is defective one way or another, bugs, or dropped and soft spots rotting. I dry the peppers, and we had WAY too many lemon cukes this year. GF made pickles from the pickling cukes (competing with me for my 64oz mason jars).
Very wet mid - end of season this year made for a funky garden… Didnt even need to water the dang thing!
I had 3 yr old heirloom tomatoes in a heated hothouse. Damn ice storm came and tree toppled ripped the back off the hothouse…there went my tomatoes
you do know they’ll grow forever as long as you tend them/protect them
Yup, and indeterminate varieties keep making more vine where determinates become a bush…
There was a 3 yr old tomato and several 4-5 yr old peppers on the patio in Cozumel… All bushes… They needed to be shaded there, that sun cooked em otherwise. But perpetual harvests…
That was a big reason I had em in the hothouse cuz. i love fresh tomatoes, not the one ‘fresh’ in stores lol
Damn boys @JohnnyPotseed @Nagel420 i like the way you’re livin, gotta get onboard and wrangle one of these discount tubs!
On another note: we made a big batch of sauce this year from the San Marzanos that we grew, been using it on my homemade pizzas and it’s been grew poblanos this year for the first time as well and dried them out in the oven, gotta come up with some ways to use those up if y’all hav any suggestions
