Morning you sensational smokers of sinsemilla!
Since we all hang out here and I get the best information from Johnny and everyone else here, my question is, I bought a hoop house/greenhouse what kind of challenges do I have in store in the midwest?

Morning everyone!
Hey @Greenfingers, how big is the hoop house?
I’ve built several around here for myself, my buddies, and my mother. What ya trying to grow in it?
Good morning all! On the road but I’ll be watching.
Never owned one myself cuz But you can imagine the types of problems you’d come up against lol
Temperature is probably the biggest though.
If it’s cool, I’ll post the YouTube video that I based my designs from. This guy was in New Jersey and still had greens going in like November with like 17°F temps(he claims). Double layers with an air gap is definitely the trick!
Are you setting it up as a green house with fans and exhaust and everything?
We just put one up as well. A guy who has experience said that with only a single plastic layer, we should expect severe condensation.
They get warm! Our plan is early spring crop while doing seed for outdoor and a fall crop that would not typically finish in our climate
This is very true! I start all my vegetable garden veggies inside early, then up-pot and move to the hoop houses, then to the ground in the garden when conditions are favorable. But one time a couple of years ago, I forgot to prop it open, like I usually do daily before work, and came home to just about everything murdered by the suns heat inside. No bueno for sure. U gotta vent. I’d take a picture of mine, but its pretty much buried in snow atm.
This is the one. My designs are roughly based around this.
Lmk if ur not cool with the link @JohnnyPotseed.
lol you’re good to go cuz, I have no problem with folks posting helpful links like this!
My step father owned some of the biggest hydroponic green houses in Canada before he was pushed out of business.
That was the same set up those were. Double walled plastic with fans making an air pocket between the layers. There were also large panels that could be opened for fresh air and the were blast furnaces to keep everything warm when the temps dropped. That style of greenhouse is awesome for colder climates
That does sound like it’d do the job! lol
