Catskill mountains were once a part of a range in Northern Europe

But, in my younger years I loved spelunking in the hills & caves all over the country. lol

Heehee…and I get incredibly nervous when I can’t see a peak on the horizon. The only place on my 7 acres that’s level is where they bulldozed the hill off to put the house and my garden spot. (also leveled)

I come from Italy and this was my same thought when I first saw the NorCal mountains…so old and so craggy not like Europe.
Somehow we are all right…
In Italy we have the Apennines which are very recent and the Alps a little less so (it seems incredible but the Alps and Himalayas are part of the same belt). While in France, Scandinavia and Great Britain they have mountains much older than the North American mountains

I’m on the side of a low hill, with taller hills on either side. There’s a slight tilt that helps with water run off, so no flooding, but easy for me to move across.
