Alright, so here’s the Headbanger #2 (the pheno that most reminded me of Sour Diesel, as far as smells and looks were concerned) report, but bear in mind that this is based on nugs that haven’t been cured for a proper amount of time. I started checking these out after only four days in jars (we’re on day eight now), but I think the only thing that will truly change after a longer cure is the smells and the flavors. At least, I hope that’s all that changes, because the high is perfect as-is.

Smell: Very sour. I notice that right off the bat. It’s a kind of sour that really lasts, too. Sticks in my mouth well after putting it back in jars and honestly, it’s very close to true Sour Diesel. And that makes me happy haha. I think that if I smelled this without knowing what it was, I’d feel confident guessing that it was Sour Diesel. It’s the type of sour that isn’t necessarily “lemony” but it kind of is? I don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s really a “sour” that isn’t cheesy, isn’t lemony, but more just that unique “Sour Diesel sour”-type smell.

It also smells sweet and tangy, with a hint of musk. I’m assuming the “musk” is coming from the Biker Kush. But it smells reeeaallllyyyy fucking good.

Taste: Refer back to my description of the smell. Very sour. Very tasty. There’s really nothing else going on right now, but like I said, I’m sure that’ll change as it cures. It tastes really good, but it doesn’t have that mouth-coating thing going on that real Sour Diesel has, where you can still taste it and the flavor keeps evolving 20, 30, 40 minutes after smoking it. It’s also missing that fuel-y funk that Sour Diesel has and that I love so much.

Still, it tastes very good.

Effect: This is serious creeper weed. The first time I smoked it, a few days ago, I was like,“Shit, maybe this isn’t good weed…” It took five minutes for me to feel anything at all. Then I was like,“Okay, starting to feel this…” Five minutes after that, I was like,“Alright, I’m stoned.” Fifteen minutes after that, I was like,“Okay, this is reeealllyyy fucking good weed…” haha! Very happy and motivational, perfect for a wake-and-bake, no rushy feelings at all. And no hard-core crash when smoked early in the day. But it also works well later in the evening, when you just wanna relax. Kind of an “any time” sort of weed, which is great for me. I’ve tried this one early, at like 10:30am, later in the afternoon around 3pm and right before bed, too, around 11pm and it’s been good and appropriate weed no matter the time of day. Early in the day, when I have more energy, it enhances that and makes me get up and do stuff. When I smoke it before bed, it motivates me to shave after having put that off for like three weeks haha. It also gives me big-time munchies, so much so that I have to get out of bed and make a sandwich. But after that, I crash right out and sleep very well.

It also makes my eyes insanely bloodshot, which to me is always a good sign. But it doesn’t make my eyes “half-mast,” which I think is interesting. Usually weed that makes my eyes red also makes my eyes hard to keep open, but that’s not the case with this Headbanger. My eyes are wide-open, but red as shit haha!

One thing I should mention is that the #2, along with the other two Headbanger plants, were a SERIOUS bitch to trim. Easily the most pain-in-the-ass plants I’ve ever dealt with. The top foot or so of each plant was fine, a very quick trim. But almost everything below 12-18 inches was just a bunch of, like, little 4- and 5-calyx clusters with leaves buried way deep into them. Had to kind of dig out their stems and really get in there to get the leaves out. It took me foreverrrrrrrr to get each one trimmed up proper, like about six hours for each plant, which is ridiculous. I mean, my girlfriend and I started watching Cobra Kai when I was trimming these, so that may have distracted me a little bit, but still… They took a long-ass time to get cleaned up.

It’s possible I just chopped them too early. I’m thinking I maybe should have let them go another week or ten days and chopped them around day 80-84, rather than day 73.

Still, this is very, very good weed and I’m super-happy I still have like 30 seeds of this to go through. Worth a grow or three for sure. And I’ll review the other two phenos (and everything else) after they’ve cured properly. I just couldn’t wait on this one. Been a long time since I’ve smoked any proper Sour Diesel and this #2 Headbanger comes damn close.

So I’ve been smoking a lot of all of the most recent harvest, trying to figure out the subtle differences amongst the various plants and all that. Here’s the Moonshine, of which there was only one plant, so not much to figure out haha.

And here’s an overexposed “nugs” shot:

To me, it looks really similar to Blue Dream, actually, with those kind of peach-colored pistils and the light green calyxes. I like the way it looks. The nugs aren’t dense at all, but I don’t think I’d classify them as “airy” or anything. They have a nice sponge-y feel to them that I dig.

Smell: pretty citrusy, but more orange than lemon. Which I prefer. I like oranges a lot; I do not like lemons haha. My friend Natalie came over yesterday and she took a couple whiffs of the jars and immediately said,“Vetiver.” I didn’t know what that was, so here’s the definition: “Vetiver smells dry, earthy, woody, leathery and smoky. Think of uncut grass on a warm day and you’ll have a rough idea of what vetiver smells like.” That’s actually a pretty accurate way to describe the way this smells, although to me, the citrus is front-and-center. There are definitely notes of leather and smoke, wood and earth, but the citrus is the main thing. It’s a relatively complex smell.

Taste: citrus and smoky. It’s not an overwhelming “mouth-coating” flavor, but it tastes real good.

Effects: I reeeeallllyyyy like this one. There’s no doubt that this is a Sativa-dominant hybrid, but it’s a really comfortable high that takes about twenty minutes to fully hit me. No raciness. Pretty cerebral, but not,“I’m having weird paranoid thoughts”-type cerebral. More like, I just think about things in a very complex yet positive way. It definitely puts me in a good mood. Good for hanging out and having good conversations for sure.

It’s weird; it’s a strong high, but it isn’t overwhelming. And it isn’t necessarily long-lasting. Starts to wear off after about an hour or an hour and a half (not including the twenty minutes it takes to fully hit me), but it also stays with me, if that makes sense. I maybe should have let this go one more week and chopped it on day 84, rather than day 77; that may have something to do with the short-lived high. And I don’t think “short-lived” is really the right way to describe it. Like I said, even though I’m only really baked and super-high for about an hour, I still feel the effects of it three hours later.

Anyway, its good weed. I like it a lot. Definitely a nice change of pace after having only the Goji and the Time Bandit available for the last four months or so.

In addition to the Moonshine Haze, I’ve been smoking a lot of the Headbanger #4, trying to get an accurate read on her.

Smells: The # 4 is definitely more complex-smelling than the #2, although that may have something to do with the fact that the #4 was sealed up for longer than the #2. At some point, I need to revisit the #2 and see if anything’s changed, smell- or flavor-wise. Anyway, the #4 smells really good. When I open the jars, the first thing is a fruity/juicy sorta smell that reminds me a lot of Green Crack. Almost “bubblegum-y” and kind of mouthwatering. Subsequent whiffs reveal sour notes, paint thinner/turpentine and black licorice/anise. The anise really surprised me, didn’t expect that at all. I usually don’t like anise-smelling weed, but I dig it here. And the anise isn’t in the forefront, like an NL5 or Jack is; it takes a good big whiff to detect it.

Taste: Sour and black licorice. And in that order. The first bong rip tastes very, very sour. Little bit of earth and musk/aftershave, too. The second hit is where the anise becomes apparent. Very interesting. The third hit is mostly sour again. And that’s as far as I can go; I haven’t done more than three bong hits of this one. And really, two’s enough.

Effects: The first thing I have to say about the #4 (and the #2. And the #5, which I’ll post about in the next few days) is that I get the munchies big-time. All three of the Headbangers make me ravenous. I like getting the munchies, but I know some people don’t, so that’s something to consider. In addition, it’s just a really nice, chill, but very stoned kinda high. The weed is strong enough for sure. It’s not an overwhelming, dick-in-the-dirt kinda high, but it’s stony as fuck. It’s also functional. Maybe if I did like four or five bong rips, I’d be all fucked up and stuck to the couch. But two or three rips is kind of the perfect place for me.

Also, I think this weed has a sort of healing effect to it. Meaning, whenever I smoke it (which has been pretty often lately haha), I completely lose the urge to drink (I like drinking beer a lot haha!) and even smoke cigarettes. I usually smoke a cig every hour or hour-and-a-half or so, but when I smoke this, I’ll go like three or four hours without a cigarette. Or a beer. And I like that.

So, yeah, this is really good weed. It’s been interesting comparing the Headbangers to the other strains I grew this round. Even while they were growing, I could tell that Karma had done a real selection and chose the parents of Headbanger pretty carefully, especially compared to the California Cannons and the Rare Dankness stuff. The Headbanger plants had the best structure and the sturdiest branches. And the finished flowers are just GOOEY. Oozing resin; very, very, very sticky. Much stickier than the other stuff I harvested this round. Good shit!

Anyway, yeah, I really like the Headbanger. It’s my favorite from this harvest for sure.

Thanks, dude. I know you have a lot of genetics, but I think it’d be worthwhile to check out the Headbanger at some point. The only thing that I didn’t like about them was how fucking difficult it was getting the flowers cleaned up. But, like I’ve said, I think if I would have let them go another week or so, the lower nugs maybe might’ve filled out a little more.

Once I figure out how to clone, I’ll do a bigger run of these and try to pick a keeper. Although that may be difficult, as I have no complaints about any of the three plants I ended up with. I guess it’ll just come down to flavor and ease of trim, because the high’s been pretty much identical on all three.

Have you planted any of that stuff from CA yet ?

I do have quite a few cultivars haha. And I am constantly acquiring and creating more. My lady recently gave all of my half gallon jars an eviction notice from the refrigerator, so I had to buy a mini fridge. Life is fucking funny.

I just told myself that I was done buying seeds for a while and then I turned right around and ordered from @Doc.D.

I would love to look through a handful of the Headbangers or really a lot of Karma’s work, but he doesn’t drop enough of it stateside and I haven’t cared to deal with international seedbanks in a while. I know I know I’m a bitch haha.

Figure out how to clone? I just take cuts, scrape, dip and stick them in my aerocloners. It doesn’t get much easier than that. Although, I do have lower success rates in the middle of summer (usually 100% other than that) and they have been taking a lot longer to be ready for transplant over winter as well.

And no, I haven’t planted any of the stuff from CA yet. I have been a little apprehensive to germinate the 2 seeds that I am most excited about. I am nervous that I will fuck them up somehow haha. I will probably hit them up sometime around spring. It is funny that you mention those because when you said that you included a little something special, my dumb ass was hopeful that it was some Headbangers to look through haha. I will keep you updated as much as possible whenever I drop those 2. I truly appreciate you again for those and the others. Positive vibes…

Yeah, I bought an aerocloner a few months ago (the place I bought them from fucked up and sent double of everything I bought, so I actually have two aerocloners now, along with an extra carbon filter haha). I tried the root plugs and all that and it never worked. I’ve read that aerocloners are almost un-fuck-up-able, I’m gonna bust them out next round. My lights turn on at 830pm during the winter grows; by the time I get done watering and everything, I just don’t feel like doing much of anything else. The lights for my May 1 and September 1 grow turn on at 9am, so I’ll be much more inclined to spend a little extra time in the garden and take clones and all that.

I always laugh now when I think,”Fuck, it’s 9pm, it’s too late to take clones, I’m tired…” haha. When I first started growing, only six years ago, I’d get off work at like 4pm, go out for drinks, end up staying out until like 3am and then come home and water the plants and take pictures and even take clones sometimes (although they never rooted), go to bed at 5 and wake up an hour later, back to work and do it all over again. Now I’m like,”It’s 9, time to go to bed,” haha! That’s what moving to the suburbs’ll do to you. And quitting doing tons of blow, too haha! It’s amazing how much sleep you get when you don’t sniff a gram and a half of cocaine every day…

Headbanger #5:

Looks:

These nugs are looser than the the other two Headbanger flowers. But they look good. Sticky for sure.

Smell: Lemon cleaner and musk. Maybe a little bit of bleach/chlorine, too, or some kind of lemon-scented cleaning product. It has a real chemical-y smell going on that stays in my mouth for a while, even after just smelling it, never mind smoking it. It leaves that sensation, sour and tart and bleach-y, on my tongue for a long time after just whiffing a jar.

Taste: Extremely similar to SFV OG. SFV is the only OG strain that I’ve ever found to be lemony. This #5 is also pretty lemony. Sour. Pretty noticeably floral/perfume on the exhale, as well, which is more of a traditional “OG” flavor to me. It tastes really good, but not very much like the other two Headbangers I got this round.

Effect: This is way heavier than the other two HB’s. I smoked a little bit of this right when I first jarred it up, but didn’t start really checking it out until a few days ago. Right after I posted the smoke report for the #4, actually. But after three days of only smoking the #5, I can say with confidence that the high on this one is much lazier than the other two Headbangers. I feel it in my legs especially, but it really has a sort of “all over” body melt to it. I’ve also fallen asleep at some point after smoking this one, every time I’ve smoked it. Not my favorite kind of high. But now that I know, I’ll just save it for bedtime and smoke the other two Headbangers during the day.

The #5 also gives me huge munchies, just like the #2 and #4 do. So there’s that. But at least with the other two, I can eat a huge meal and still not pass out afterwards. This one kind of just wrecks me.

Anyway, it’s good weed for sure. I actually think that this is the best-tasting of the three Headbangers, even though the flavor doesn’t really contain any sort of Sour Diesel elements. I mean, it’s sour, but more of a lemon-type sour, as opposed to that unique “Sour Diesel sour” that the other two Headbangers have hints of. But yeah, the #5 tastes really good. And the flavor actually lingers in my mouth for a lot longer than the other two, as well. It’s just too dang heavy for me to enjoy any time other than before bed.

One other thing I should mention about the #5: it makes my eyes reeeeeallllyyyy red haha. I did three bong rips of this before I got in the shower last night. Started brushing my teeth and looked in the mirror and was like,”Holy shit!” I haven’t seen my eyes that red in a long time.

Red eyes are always a sign of good weed. To me, anyway.

I feel like it is a Dragon Energy male, but I could be mistaken about that. I think it is Headbanger x Dragon Soul, but again don’t quote me on that haha. I think the Black Energy was the only hybrid that I purchased with that male though. I went pretty heavy sativa on my order because I want to diversify my harem a little more and I also crave more unique plants than what the majority of people run.

I hear you. I’ve been ordering a lot of Sativa-dominant hybrids lately, as well. Especially after my little “Nothing but Chem and OG crosses” seed-buying frenzy I went on this past summer. I got his Colombian Gold, Mexican Death Sativa and Big Sur Holy crosses, in addition to the Bandaid. Those should be relatively Sativa-dominant, I think haha.

I will. Gonna be a while, though. Probably. I haven’t felt the need yet to thin out my collection anymore than I already have. But sometimes I get overwhelming urges to just get rid of stuff (not necessarily seeds…) and just, you know, get rid of it. And then six months later, I’m like,”Baby, what happened to all those five gallon airpots that were in the garage?” and she’s like,”You threw them all away, remember?” And I’m like,”I did? Shit…”

So I just wanted to do do a quick update on that Headbanger #5. I always label my jars with the strain name, the pheno number and the date it was jarred. But I also label each jar, like,”1,2,3,” etc, so that I only open the first jar first and let the other jars stay sealed up and continuing to cure.

Anyway, I cracked the second jar of the #5 for the first time last night, expecting it to smoke the same as the first jar, which made me crash out every time I smoked it. The second jar did not do that haha! It’s completely different than the first jar. The flavor is still unreal, but any hint of sour/lemon cleaner is completely gone. It has an intensely spicy flavor on the inhale, with a very, very floral exhale. Really, it’s a classic OG flavor to me. And the high is SOARING. Very euphoric, very cerebral. It’s still an extremely comfortable high (especially for someone who’s prone to panic attacks, like me) and it is very strong. But it’s not the best weed to be smoking if you wanna go to sleep haha. I was up for a few hours after three bong rips, thinking about all kinds of things in a very positive and complex way.

I was pretty blown away and thinking last night that the #5 might actually be my new favorite, high-wise. And flavor-wise, too. It’s just SUCH a classic OG flavor and high. I’m still on the first jars of the #2 the #4, but I’m eager to crack the second and third jars of each, just to see how much those differ from the first jars. You wouldn’t think that a couple extra weeks of curing would make that much of a difference, but it did with this #5. Really good shit.

Dude, it wouldn’t surprise me if those Headbanger nugs do look a little leafy, actually, even though I know you’re joking haha. They were a SERIOUS bitch to trim. I can’t remember the order in which I trimmed the plants, which one I trimmed first, second etc. But I have a feeling I’ll be able to figure it out pretty easily as I open jars. I know by the time I was getting to the end of trimming them, I was like,”Pssshhhh, fuck this, I’ll just pull the leaves off when I smoke it…” haha.

Alright, here’s the long-overdue California Cannon smoke report. I’m gonna lump both California Cannons in here, because they both smoke exactly the same.

Looks:

Same nugs, different angles. Those two buds weigh six grams total, to give you an idea of their density. They’re not the most-dense buds I’ve ever grown, but they do have a nice heft to them. The #2 took longer to finish and yielded better than the #1, but neither plant was skimpy. Pretty good yields for sure.

Smell: They smell exactly like fuel and maple syrup. When I googled,“What fuel smells sweet?” just to get an idea of exactly what type of fuel I was smelling, the very first thing that came up was “maple syrup.” So I guess that’s a thing? I dunno, but while trimming and after having cured for two months now, it still smells the same.

Taste: like hot, smoky ass. Seriously, the flavor of this weed is extremely off-putting. And not in a good way. It’s harsh, hot smoke that almost always makes me cough. And the color of the smoke is yellow-ish, too, like smog. Very weird. Pretty disappointing, too, considering it’s super-delicious-smelling.

Effect: it’s strong weed for sure. The first couple of times I smoked this, it had only been in the jars a few days and obviously hadn’t cured properly. At the time, it made me feel very heavy/slow. I could feel it in my calves especially, right away. I smoked it at night, before I started getting ready for bed, a couple of times and I took what seemed like extra-long showers, making sure to really rinse all of the soap off of my body haha. After those first few times smoking it, I just let it sit in the jars for a while and didn’t really start to revisit it until a couple weeks ago.

After a decent cure, it’s not nearly as heavy of a high, although it does still get me very baked. And it climbs, too. I feel it almost immediately after doing a couple bong rips, but it still builds (in a comfortable way; I haven’t noticed any sort of “heart-racing” element to it yet). About thirty minutes in, I’ll realize,“Holy shit, I am fucking STONED.” When I first started really checking this weed out, a few weeks back, I did a couple three bong rips and then logged onto overgrow, just kind of dicking around, catching up on threads I’m following and stuff. I wish I could find all of my comments that day and post them here, because you’d be able to see the progression of this high in real time. For a little bit, I was able to comment on people’s threads coherently and shit, but eventually, I had trouble remembering what I was reading and why. I even asked a few questions and mentioned, you know,“Sorry, I’m really fucking high right now,” which is not something I ever do.

So, yeah, it’s strong weed, but it’s kind of a “dumb” high, if that makes sense. It makes me slower (but not lazy or tired) and reading comprehension becomes difficult haha. I have a hard time following whatever I may be watching on tv, too; forget smoking this and then doing anything important or that requires any sort of concentration. Not gonna happen after smoking this. And that’s fine, it’s always nice to have some weed around that makes you stupid sometimes.

Having said that, there’s nothing about this weed that reminds me either of Tahoe OG or Stardawg, so… That’s something to keep in mind. I was really hoping to find some Tahoe-esque weed here, especially after seeing the grow report on the GPS website. Maybe I still will (I have quite a few seeds of this left), but these two plants did not fit the bill at all.

The California Cannon? Yeah, it looks pretty good. The high was just okay, though. The flavor was really unpleasant, which might be a first for me. I don’t think I’ve ever grown anything that tasted so bad that I didn’t want to smoke it. Good yielder, for sure. I wasn’t super-impressed with the two I grew, but I bet there’s something good in those beans somewhere. I think I have like 30 or 35 of those seeds still; I’ll revisit them at some point in the next few years haha. I LOVE Tahoe OG, but the CC’s didn’t really have any sort of Tahoe elements to them that I noticed.
