Hello everyone. Bam here. I’ve been growing since 2010 when I got out of the Army. I find cannabis to be a great medicine. I find growing it to be a great relief. There is something so rewarding growing your own. Anyways, I live off grid via a completely self reliant means. I produce my own electricity, source my own water, grow my own food… I also do so in a very inhospitable environment, the high desert southwest. Every rodent is voracious and cunning. Every bird is looking for nesting material that’s soft and supple. Needless to say it’s total war when it comes to my garden. The amount of times I’ve grown cannabis and had something to eat it in the last 2 to 3 weeks of growth is pretty common. Also, growing in the desert adds a bunch of challenges. Perspiration is real!!! Being a person who wants to be able to leave the property to go secure fish and the like I needed to devise a way of keeping my plants going, thriving really. So how to do so???
I’ve known about this setup known as kratky for some time. I often seen it used to grow simple greens. Most of the research I did stated it’s not a great grow method for cannabis and I gave this reason predominantly:
Nutrient tanks not lasting the full grow
At that I scoffed. Just give the plant a bigger reservoir if that’s the deciding factor… After constructing a simple enclosure to keep the large pests at bay I went about securing my reservoirs. I decided for my experiment to start at 55 gallons. That can was buried in the ground to help with maintaining a consistent temperature. I still don’t know if this was overkill or not as I’ve not removed the lid once during the grow. I also decided to go with an auto flower variety to help limit the overall length of time it would take the plant to grow. Now after approximately 80 days, we are to this point. It’s almost harvest time! The plant responded well after an initial setback (wind blew the sprouted plant over bending the stock wickedly bad). Ironically, in the past, I’ve been such a stickler for following the rules when it comes to growing cannabis, maintaining pH is someone on and so forth. This grow, I never even checked the pH. Didn’t stress train… nothing… I simply mixed a half strength nutrient solution for the plant. Raw by NPK is the nutrient I choose. Auto blueberry from the seed connect out of Tempe, Az is where the genetics came from.
For a completely hands off grow I think it went well!
