L.A. Confidential DNA Genetics

I am going to move this post to a new thread for specific discussion of LA Confidential.

From what I have seen around here from the dispensaries is That I love how this strain smokes. I hate the name, sounds like 1 $ store makeup my Ol’Lady buys but the strain has been consistent and pretty great, a well-balanced hybrid seeming a wee bit leaning to the sat side at least I am productive on it, nice flavor and smooth smoke or vape … I would love to grow this girl out, the structure dried and cured seems like she would be a yielder! I would also like to use this strain as a breeder seems like it would cross nice!

In response to @Herbie question.

LA Confidential is the most disappointing strain from DNA/RP that I have grown so far.

Now that statement is not as negative as it may appear. I did not hate LAC…it only disappointed me because I had high expectations based upon the many positive things I read about how great this strain was.
The problem was that I grew other strains by Reserva Privada (part of DNA) alongside LAC.
These were Kandy Kush, Headband,
and the stellar OG Kush #18. All three of
these were better than the LAC (to me) In particular, I thought the OG #18 was very, very nice!
So, If I had grown out LAC alone I may have very well liked her more. But I didn’t. So comparisons can be odious.
BTW, I only grew out 4 LACs, so I do not think that my limited grow is a fair assessment of the genetic potential that this strain may posses.
Overall, I have been very happy with the work of DNA.
My first experience with DNA was back in 2003 or '04 when I received a 10 pack of freebies with an order of seeds I bought from Seeds Direct. The freebies were called
Who’s your Daddy…they were supposedly the result of a Power Plant mother being accidentally exposed to pollen from 6 different fathers! The Daddies were Diesel, Chocolate Chunk, Stella Blue, Apollo 11, Warlock and Rockstar!
These became absolutely the very best free seeds I ever grew out! Fortunately I had friends back then who also ordered from Seeds Direct…I managed to cajole them into giving me their free WYD seeds. I ended up growing thirty of these seeds. Every female plant was great.

So in summary, I have not been motivated to give LAC another look.

I grew LAC indoors only under T-5s and 600w and 1000w MH and HPS. I used amended ProMix BX in 3 gallon containers.

You are one of many smokers/ growers who really like LA Confidential!
It is extremely likely that I did not uncover the preferred pheno in my limited, one time run.

OG #18 mesmerized me. Hahahaha!

Thanks for the write up @Calyxander sorry it didn’t live up to your expectations. I have never tried it but may be one day, its on my list of genetics to try from the states side of the pond.

I also have grown la confidential and was not pleased. actually from 43 strains, none of the dna stuff made it to the final round.

Hi @Viva_Mexico,
I am curious…did you grow any of Reserva Privada’s strains? They are “part” of DNA.

I thought RP’s OG #18 was really nice.
Unfortunately, I have heard from sources I consider reputable that the currently available version of OG #18 is a mere shadow of it’s former self.
This is too bad because I lost the mother plant in a recent move.
Arghh.:rage:
This is a pet peeve of mine. When a breeder monkeys around with their established genetics, they should have the decency to inform their loyal customers.
Oh well.

@Viva_Mexico and @Calyxander did you grow feminised or regular LA Confidential??
thanks in advance!

I think they were all feminized

I bought and grew out the regular seeds.

hmm that’s kind of disappointing to hear. i thought i’d heard great things about it so i selected it before seeing this. i also couldn’t find the regular seeds in any seedbanks so thought it may have been rare. how long ago did you grow them, and were the 4 plants you grew all unique phenotypes? i am getting a 30 pack of regular so hopefully i’ll find a keeper in it.

Hi @legalcanada.
Sorry, I did not mean to discourage you.
With 30 seeds to sprout, you should have a greater chance to find a “better” or more representative pheno.
I started 10 seeds…4 girls, all showed good vigor and grew effortlessly and quickly. Fairly uniform in growth patterns. Relatively heavy feeders. Three of the girls had typically fat indica type leaves, one lady possessed more sativa leaves.

The perception of the quality of any strain’s smoke is highly subjective…
so, you may very well enjoy the flowers more than I did.

thanks @Calyxander - hopefully i will be able to find something good. i noticed they did win multiple cups with that strain, and i’d imagine the entrants were likely regular stock, maybe not though.

i also emailed DNA genetics the other day asking about LA confidential regular seeds and they said last time they had stock was about 5+ years ago and advised me not to purchase them as they are likely very old lmao. luckily i got a great deal on them :joy:
