I figured we “freaks” needed a spot so here it is , freaks 2.0 , its still early yet but ill come up with something cool to say after awhile. I was smoking holy Sassafras an f1 i created its oaxapesh X g13snobud a daytime smoke but it can get so trancy it becomes stupifying, with continued smoking. To the point that i also use it for bed meds . It puts me down for the count straight shuts my brain down completely. This year is the year of the pheno so i figured i better start this thread now. Another reason for this thread is to disspell some of the stigma around landraces created by the modern market to sell more seed and scare folks away from landraces. For instance “full of hermies” which is the most common misconception. When in all actuality hermies is more rare in landraces than commercial seeds , pewf, figures smh lol. Its too hard, it takes to long, they are to wild, all these are slick marketing tools. So we always strat with an OP , preservation comes first “freaks 1.0” the genetic diversity must be preserved, its just good practice, its also a fail safe if you will a point i can return to a well of genetic diversity locked in time and space to be able to return to if need be. Now the fun part the cross and see what happens stage i have a few that i chose to work with due to the fact that they are magical to say the least ps input is welcome here
These are both what we are talking about here
Not modern heirlooms or IBLs , thanks
Where ya at @Upstate , busy busy made us a spot , @deeez99 , @420noob …
Im got a few projects going top of the list is my spirit weed project but i also have many others. Skunk project an iranian cross
Old toby “wizard weed” and a few others all with zero herm issues. i have found that its associated with root stress not so much a light thing , something to consider
Oh and no arguments my way either only bringing up that i feel its often a root space thing where she will “freak out” thinking shes going to thirst or starve to death so the plant “might” herm to save the next generation and i have often found if seeds were popped that the herm will only occur in a small rate or not at all and will acclimatize idk more data is still required
I feel like we need to have that discussion on what constitutes a wild/landrace/heirloom variety. I know it brings out pistols at dawn, but for once in the context of the thread it’s probably not just esoteric wankery.
Landrace = a strain/line thats been in an environment long enough to naturally acclimatize and adapted to its environment
Indigenous Heirloom = a line/strain pulled from a Landrace gene pool cultivated for generations by a local peoples
What do you think? Do able?
Yeah, for practical purposes that’ll do. I would say that most of what we call landraces are closer to heirlooms. Unless they have been field collected.
An heirloom can also be a landrace. They are quite similar and only a few factors differentiates them apart. In fact many heirlooms are landraces. Example, some old timey Afghans were preserved and grown open field for many many years. Its technically both a landrace and an heirloom. I believe that Perchwar (probably not spelling it right) sativa from Afghanistan is an example of both.
