Best trick for popping old seeds that i have personally tried is soaking in a solution of 1ml of liquid Humic Acid diluted in 1 pint of water. There is actually a research study on radish seeds out of India that hit 100% Germination after soaking in this solution, now i do not think they were testing it on Old seeds, BUT i have used it on 20+ year old tomato seeds with a 90% germination rate, 9 outta 10 20+ year old seeds sprouted and grew. Here is the link if you want to check out the study.
@US3RNAM3 Red snake seeds arrived! It’s good timing, because I had to cull one of my plants and might end up culling the other one extremely early, so I’ll try at least one in my next run.
Red Snake Seeds
I can only get the ful-hum powdered humic acid, but I will give it a try again.
I had it work for some low viability lebanese landrace seeds sourced from the bekaa valley. I was getting nothing without the humic acid. Although it seemed to turn some of them mutant which didn’t survive, it did get them to pop. I got two females to preserve the line as a sort of bx using males form my second generation offspring of the same stock.
Awesome, as long as it worked. This is what I use, fairly cheap on amazon and it works great!
Wish I could wikify but I don’t have that privilege, we’ll have to wait for team overgrow assistance
I have had good luck with 12 yr old seeds by first a soak in water with hydrogen peroxide like 20:1. I then get an aloe vera leaf and slit it so I can place the soaked seeds in it. It has a natural giberrelic acid. After about 4 hours the seeds get rinsed then set in a moist bowl of earthworm castings or fresh worm castings.
The bowl gets covered with plastic then with some paper on the modem. Then I pad the modem with some paper to make sure nothing burns. Once a day I mist spray it with water. Everything usually pops by day 3.
Thank you @US3RNAM3 for the opportunity to win some great genetics and…good luck to everyone!!!
Nice surprise of the Red Snake in the mail today , thank you again @US3RNAM3 for spreading these special genetics around. I’ll post up some pics when I get some going.
It’s my pleasure. High Tech Beans deserves all the credit for making this reproduction available however, and very grateful for the generosity of fellow OGs that traded some stamps to facilitate this process!
Thanks for the opportunity @US3RNAM3 !
