How on Earth do you get Plants to stay that healthy in a beer cup? Hydro? Meaning soilless? I suppose mine get that big in beer cups before they go out, but not with buds on them. These were started on a 12/12 light cycle? Clones? Makes me want to start a whole Fleet of beer cup budding plants. Cute little ladies. Look like my diesel ryder plants 20 yrs ago. I harvested 7 oz out of 4 Earth boxes with six plants each.
You finished deep Chunk in a cup 2!? I can’t keep my Afghans healthy in a beer cup past eight or ten sets of leaves. Great job! Nice and “chunky”. I expected it to be Leafier. Is that the plant that would be foliated? I thought of doing that with my own Afghans for years but I never get around to doing it early e nough. Ihave a feeling my old Afghan is something special for breeding with. Even the side branches get covered with resin on some phenos. I’ll have to try major defoliation early on if that’s what you did for the Deep chunk
Glad to hear your Lebanese project is going well. I offered some seeds of my Lebanese to you a while back, but I forgot to use the “at” symbol before your name, so I don’t imagine you ever saw the post( thanks for reminding me about that @AllOra). I don’t think my description of high cbd and no buzz was very enticing, but they are from the real seed company and I had to read that you had low germination rates. Anyway the offer is still there if you would like to expand your gene pool. I have some seeds set aside from the more potent looking plants that I had. I say the most potent looking, because I never did smoke it. I forget now what happened to it, but I only harvested seeds. It was the most Indica looking of the bunch with very large calyxes. it probably molded like the rest of them. But you have me thinking about Lebanese again, I might just have to pop a couple seeds and see if they are as good as what I have been smoking recently. I don’t know if it was the long cure or what, but my wild Lebanese plants from the garden last year are very good now. The one is my go to Smoke 4 evening time. Very strong Buzz. Both plants looked Lebanese, but they did not smell like Pine or Cedar like last year. I only seeded one bud on one plant with my Afghan line, but I suppose it’s possible the plants came from seeds that came off of that. But I only made half a dozen or so seeds, so the likelihood of that is very very slim. I think they are pure Lebanese, but the increased potency has me baffled, and I believe I mentioned the increased mold resistance a while back, which could have come from my Afghan line i suppose… Is it normal when you cross to 100% Indica parents to themselves and hybridize that The Offspring would have good mold resistance even if the parents did not? Just from hybrid vigor? Is it possible? Keep in mind, even with increased mold resistance the plants were brought in at any threat of rain, and they were brought in every night to keep the dew off of them. But the same treatment was given to the Lebanese that first year and it was a mold fest. Does that Panama Haze have that nice uppity electric high I enjoy? That’s a limited edition correct? Damn there’s so many things I would like to acquire before I die. That’s yet another one of them. Those vintage Mexican seeds from cryptic labs are not just Mexican seeds. The description says that they are a mix from Central and South America of original old school seeds. There was an open pollination. They sound like they could be fun, but I was hoping for a purebred. F2’s will be passed out liberally after i make beans. Sounds like the stars might align and we could both be freed up for a Mexican run after Christmas. Who else is in? Diggy? You should be done with that goroka by January huh😂?lol.
Ah yea, I must have missed your offer. In the end, I did get enough plants going to get some selection done, so no worries. The Leb27 had terrible germ rates, and the RSCs were ok, but could have been better. Afghans don’t typically have great mold resistance. Very arid climate for most of the country, so wouldn’t be a good place to have that selection criteria, since they would be unlikely to see it. I think Lebanon is probably similar.
Panama Haze isn’t as intense to me as some sativas, but my brother smoked some and said “no way”. It’s too energetic for him. To me, it’s just very euphoric, happy, relaxing/reassuring and sometimes a little mind-bending. Mine is really dominated by purple OT haze. There are probably at least 3 phenos in the Ace beans, since they crossed both their purple and green OT lines with their Panama. If you’re interested in it, I can tell you there’s no chance you will be disappointed. But I’ll also offer up some PH-related stuff for trade at some point. If the limited edition goes bye bye, I will have at least some BX1 and possibly BX2 in the making so I don’t lose it.
My first summer everything in a go cup died. I was exploring coco coir which I have, for now, abandoned. Couldn’t get the watering right.
I have increased the drainage to 8 holes in a ring around the bottom. I can drill 8 cups at a time. Soil is reused. Amended with new soil. Currently Roots Organics but gonna try G&B raised bed mix as I am using nutes anyway. Want to ditch the (bat) guano.
So far I haven’t finished anything but males in Solos, which, for my uses (except for contests), are transitional. Everything goes in a pair of cups as soon as roots come through the plug. If it’s a keeper or a maybe, I will uppot. Most of the DC came to maturity in Nancy’s Yogurt containers. No DC finished yet.
The cup in the above is a small Boaty Mcboatface for scale. I am finding cups to be excellent size restrictors, backups, clone starters, seed mamas (for small increases). Even been training in one.
I hand fertigate the bottom third of the cup once daily. Mostly bottom feed to keep the IPM dusted surface dry, but if gnats are under control I will occasionally water from above.
I have little need for big boys. I uppot to my aspirations rather than the plant’s expressed desire.
I have been practicing with watering wet to dry cycles in coco/ soil mix . Per a conversations with a friend mainly regarding plants getting root bound and locking out late in flower . What he told me and what I have seen is that when you let the plant go nearly dry and do cavitation (air pockets) on the sides of the cup after watering what happens is the lateral roots will dry in the cavitation and naturally sloth off forcing the roots to search for the bottom of the cups here they do the same and do not ball up into a knotted mess. I called BS but have been practicing it since.
now water twice a week, the plants. I measure what they take and after first week in flower I know what to mix for each feeding no waste. I never change amount only days between feeding if they are thirsty. I Was bummed I missed the Solo cup challenge to give me a reason to leave one in a Solo cup to finish. I now grow in 3 gallons rather than fives and always run a few in clear pots inside black ones so I can see the process. I only know what I see.
I popped 10 of my random Mexican seeds and still no germ after a soak overnight and a day in paper towels in a baggie on the heat mat.
So, today I cracked all 10 with my teeth and tossed them back in with a new spray of water with a little SuperThrive in it.
If this doesn’t work I’ll try sanding some.
I think it’s a good idea to rinse with H2O2 after the spit and squish.
It is a seductive idea. I like the cups for giving me an early taste of something new. And clones are good to check gender anyway so may as well.
That’s great to know. I wanted to switch to ebb and flow, but I didn’t really want to switch my early veg process. I use so little coco for the first ~3-4 weeks, I’d rather just leave it alone. Sounds like I can probably just take them out of their cups and gently wash out the coco to do a transplant. Seems much easier to me that trying to setup something to start them in hydro.
Absolutely, but don’t wash the soil off, do it when they’re a little dry. If you kinda, bounce/tap the rootball with your fingers, you can get it to disintegrate. And you’ll feel if any roots snap, like guitar strings. Water makes the media stick to the roots tighter and way more roots will snap.
Yep, it hit me after I did it. I had them in it a long tim from the start and in the overnight soak but forgot to spay them. I may do it when I go back inside. I’ve been working on a raised bed rejuvenation for my tomatoes and chillin in the rocker on the front porch now with a beer and some weed. Luckily I have more.
Your friend really hooked me up. I mentioned I was looking for something NL and he hit me up with some Ortega…3 are on their way already. He sent some other stuff that sounds really nice. Things outside of my knowledge. I can’t wait to try them.
Still plan on getting some stuff to you. Most haven’t been grown but if you’re interested I’ll let you know when I finish shucking them out.
Always interested. Any of that SSDD left?
I screwed up a soil mix once, and I literally took the hose and just hosed the soil off the roots and retransplanted. I was surprised how well it worked.
I may have some of those to send. I have the f2 from the co-op too. This particular f2 were from a friends accident about 5 years ago but the plants are really nice. I got the sour butter and muffin pheno out of the first three I grew.
I have two in flower inside and put one in the dirt outside to see how big it can get. I’m slow but I’ll get to it. I’m racing to get an outdoor raised bed planter finished so I can get my tomatoes into it. Got 90% of it filed today. I need to get some manure and peat to add and then I can get these transplanted. They all have tomatoes already growing on them. peace
Still got my address?
I think so. I saved the envelope I think. I’ve started trying to deal with my seeds for a while but never get far. I have too many things going on this time of year. I have two other people waiting on me, so won’t be long.
Ortega. Haven’t heard that name in awhile. Supposed to be an heirloom Afghan? Maple leaf indica perhaps? Is that serious seeds originally?
Too true! Not enough hours in a day. Tomatoes already? Good for you! I barely get to harvest ripe fruit. Usually just starting to turn red when the frost gets them. Did you start from seed? Greenhouse?
That’s wicked funny. I always tell new growers that everyone will tell you that there’s one way and only one way to do things, and here I am doing exactly that! Lmfao.
Good call
The Ortega is Mr Nice seeds and is NL#1 x NL#5 and is basically pure afghan. I was looking for a NL recently and Somebody here hooked me up with the Ortega. I got some of his work, too, which I was stoked about but then I saw the Ortega. Man, he made my day. I haven’t ever smoked it knowingly. I’m sure I probably smoked it somewhere as I lived in the northwest for about 15 years.
It’s supposed to produce keeper plants and that’s what I wanted.
These were all volunteer seeds that came alive in my recent pot plants, from my compost and recycled soil mix. heh. I get better success this way than just planting them. I don’t know how so many ended up in the compost. I don’t remember getting almost any cherry tomatoes last year but that’s what two are. They’re already busting a couple of clusters from 1 gallon or so pots.
I think I have at least one different variety. I hope it’s the Purple Cherokee I grew last year. It was one of the best tomatoes I ever had. I had German Stripe and Black Krim last year but never harvested any I don’t think. I have to look to see if I have more seeds.
I love heirloom tomatoes. It’s too late to try and start any so It’ll most likely only be what’s growing already. With t least two large cherry tomato plants going it’ll give me tons. I just hope I get a good large one in my mix.
The Purple Cherokee was supposed to be finicky to grow according to reviews but it grew better than any other for me here. The get super big and just an unbelievable great taste. You can’t get anything close in a store. I’d suggest giving it a try if you ever grow any.
