Landrace Seeds

I’m in my 50s and I have some old school seeds in my deep freezer. I know a lot of them or landrace old school seeds from the early to mid 80s. The only problem is theyre not labeled. Is there a market for such seeds? I just hate that they’re all mixed up. Columbian Gold, Acapulco Gold, original Skunk, some Mexican strains, Red Hair Sense. Hindu Kush, Panama Red and others. I guess the only way to find out is to grow them. I assume they’re still good. Deep freezing seeds that long preserves or kills them?

Most likely your seeds are no longer viable.

the answer is it depends on the way they were stored, freezing seeds can rupture the cells within – especially if there is any excess moisture.

Hi guys … just adding …

As a last resort … Apply the "sandpaper pipe " tech … And put the gens in sprout mode 1 or 2 days before the Full Moon

Yeah, if the germination rate is ok and maybe a batch were grown to see how dank they are, they would be valuable to the right person. Hope you get some to crack. Read up good on bringing them out of deep freeze as I don’t know. Every step to germination is likely real important at this point. peace

The only thing I’ve ever read about frozen seeds is that they should be germinated as soon as they thaw out as in their natural environment. Try a couple yourself and see, I’ll give some a go if you’ll ship them overseas.

My understanding is that freezing seeds is not the problem, it’s the freezing and rethawing that usually happens when it’s in a defrost freezer.
You probably should thaw them slowly in the refrigerator
There are several germination bomb threads on the internet’s
Most use dmso, hydrogen peroxide, and pressurized distilled water.

This has some great data for this discussion

I definitely believe they could be viable as long as they weren’t froze defrosted froze multiple times seen people say they’ve popped all kinds of old seeds stored various ways kinda never now unless you try

Definitely some awesome strains hope for the best

I’ve germinated multiple year old seeds from the freezer with no issues, I’ve heard of other people doing it for much longer. I think if it’s sealed properly it should last a long time. I freeze all my seeds and have always let them come to room temp before breaking the seal just in case (same thing for freezing bud)

Would be cool to see some of these older things germinate.

FYI, there’s an International Collective of ALL the Seeds in the World being stored in a Vault in one of the Nordic countries. That’s as “deep freeze” as it gets. They just germinated some Hemp seeds found in THOUSANDS of year old Perma Frost. Don’t throw 'em away, unless you sling 'em my way…lol. SS/BW…mister :honeybee: :100:

Thats a shame…They’re in freezer bags in tupperware bowls and do not have any frost build up…It can’t hurt to try

give them a try. Where I live people have been growing weed since the 60s, and I know more than a few older guys who have frozen seed stashes dating back to the late 60s and early 70s.

Seeds from the 80s and 90s are still popping very well, and seeds from the 70’s tend to have a germ rate of about %50.

Go for it. Plant the seeds directly in good clean organic soil with no insect life (pests or decomposers) and about 1 tablespoon of vermicompost/ worm castings at the surface. Plant the seeds shallow, but cover them completely so they maintain the right level of moisture.

Before planting you can give the seeds a brief dunk in hydrogen peroxide 3% solution to sterilize the exterior of the seed shell.

Do not use rooting hormones. do not soak the seeds or put them in paper towels, rapid rooters, or other soilless mediums.

this will give them the best chance of survival. Give it a try.

Not sure where you are located but I would be happy to give these a shot. I just had good results with some local seed stock stored in a refrigerator since the mid 70s. I am in the US, west coast.

Ok let me speak more to the point, I’m totally for you trying to germinate seeds that have been in deep freeze for what seems to be decades. I popped seeds that had been in storage at room temp for 15 years, they worked great. I hope every one of them pops for you. Extra good best of Irish luck to you.

Could we please see the seeds. :sunglasses:

I’m working on it guys and gals. You do realize I have no idea what these are. Chances are they’re good because I didn’t smoke rag week. I chased true skunk, Acapulco gold. Columbian sensimillion, Columbia gold Thai stick,
