I’ve got a 600mm (2ft) square, 1200mm (4ft) high custom cabinet that i’d like to use for growth before transferring to the flower cab.
The problem is that everything that enters the “grow” chamber dies.
I run two of each of these light systems in there. The lights are fixed to the roof of the cab, so about 1000mm (3ft) from the plant canopy when put in as seedlings. I have no diffusers attached.
Clones progressing fine on a windowsill die.
Established seedlings die.
Established plants exhibit stunted growth.
Is this a case of excessive light intensity? Or just someone wishing me ill? Should i halve the light?
Shit out of ideas and don’t want to waste any good seeds (too hard to come by established genetics here) if asking a question will help.
Help!
I dont see how it could be the lights unless they are over heating the cabinet. No way is 56 watts total power too much for 4 sq ft - especially at that distance.
There must be something else going on when you put them in there.
What is the temp in the cabinet when the lights are on?
Do you have any before and after pics? That might help diagnose the issue.
Also, any other details would help - soil or hydro? Nutes? PH? EC?
Honestly don’t see it being enough light, what does the front look like…
I read it as 46 voltish running at 700mAish a bit weak even for a 2x2 area as a pair.
Consider it equal to say a Cob running at 700mA… 2 in a 2x2 at that current doesn’t get you far.
Either more LED, more current, or both. At 700mA I’d use 6 to 8 cobs just to get the bloom strength needed.
4000K will keep plants short but shouldn’t stunt growth vigor.
If the lights are fixed to the ceiling… then raise the plants to a level they like.
I keep the seedling canopy even with the veg canopy when possible.
Good point about the low level of light, but low light alone wont kill a plant - just stunt the growth. I kept three clones in my bathtub for several months last summer with just two 13 watt screw-in LED bulbs set about 24" from the plants. They mostly stopped growing, but did not die or even look bad.
I think there has to be something else going on - but we need more data
Hi @jay , I agree with the others here, we need more info on your set up. Temps, air circulation or lack off, over watering etc. If you can come back with the info I’m sure we can all help you.
As for light intensity, I run 30 watts of screw in LED over 3/4 of a square foot with out problems. Managing heat is the problem in a small setup. And as you know we have had a very hot summer here in Qld this year.
We’ll sort it out, we just need more input from you.
