Lets Grow Some Autos!

Ok OG’ers, it’s that time to grow some autos. I know autos aren’t super popular here but I feel they have their place and for me it’s due to growing in an unheated room in the winter. For others it could be due to unfavorable conditions during late flower or light pollution from growing on balconies or near street lights. Anyways the purpose of this grow is to make seeds as I’m almost out and don’t really want to buy any more.
Here’s what I’ve got going on right now.

I originally attempted to germinate 9 seeds as I only had 8 pots allowing for one to not make it. 8 of the 9 made it so I was in business but unfortunately the Tropicana Hammer has a nasty mutation and may not make it. I eventually tried popping a third seed of the Tropicana Hammer as it was the only auto/reg I have and wanted to have it as backup pollen in case the Double Grape reversal fails but i don’t think it’s going to make it either. It seems like they have a hard shell but a viable embryo but not sure what’s going on. I tried @Ironfreak and thank you for the seeds.
Ok the lineup

Double Grape-Mephisto
Tropicana Cookies Purple- freebie from somewhere can’t remember
Orangeadelic- @Trial-N-Error Thanks!
Tropicana Hammer @Ironfreak Thanks!
Skywaker X- Mephisto
Queens Banner @Kyleromero94 Thanks!
Tangie- NASC (stunk my house up last time I grew her. Smells like rotten pineapple)
Alien vs Triangle-Mephisto

I’m calling March 8 as their birthday and hope I can give a good representation of these girls genetics. If the reversal fails I guess it’ll be a bud run haha. Anyways these will be grown in coco/perlite in 2 gal pots underfilled due to running out of coco. I usually only run 4 in a 4x4 so I hope it don’t turn into a jungle but if it does, we’ll deal with it.

Here’s where we’re at today. We’re at 7 days above dirt and I’m hoping the Tropicana Hammer pulls through the mutation. Regardless I’m going to grow it out because I don’t like an uneven number of pots in the tent. So stay tuned folks and we’ll see what unfolds. Hopefully we make a bunch of seeds which I’ll freely share here on OG

I also wanted to express thanks to @Tracker and to @ElChapo26 for some seeds that arrived after I started this grow and wish I could have got them sooner to do an all OG grow but, you guys are my next auto grow. I really appreciate both of your guys generosity.

Pulling up a chair for this one, some nice genetics you’ve got there it should be a good show. Did you get the hard shell one to pop?

Yeah nice line up there I always keep autos going in my veg tent. I’ve grown more autos than photos but I’m working on that

Looking good my friend! I’m a fan of autos myself, although I don’t have any running this second. I’ll be watching along :love_you_gesture:

All the best for the auto grow.
I’ll follow along and see how you do things.
Cheers :slightly_smiling_face:

Sounds awesome brother @OH420! Selection of cultivars chosen sound like great choices.
Will be tuned in for the show :tv:, thanks for sharing!

Thanks @DeeRezPoundmaker, I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can give them a good showing. Autos always keep me on my toes haha. I’m hoping to make some seeds so it won’t be as pretty as a bud run but I’ll do my best.

First, good luck with the grow, looks great. Since you mentioned that people here don’t like autos, maybe you could explain to me why anyone would grow autos in a tent? You still need a timer. You use more electricity. And, while the buds from autos are much better than they used to be, I think people overall have better quality with good fem seeds. Not being able to transplant, is not ideal for yield. I honestly don’t get it?

Well, for me growing in an unheated room in the winter, my temps will drop to low 50’s during lights out. With autos I can run 24hrs lights and maintain high 70’s-low 80’s in my tent. I like to grow in the winter but this is the only way I can keep good conditions and don’t really want to run a 1200w heater along with lights to heat the whole room. Another benefit is I dont have to worry about light leaks and can open the tent at any time for watering. Don’t get me wrong, I love my photos but I actually look forward to running autos though for those certain reasons. Also when it comes to yield, I usually pull the same or a little less from autos but do it a little quicker. I average 8-10 ozs per plant regardless whether autos or not unless I stunt one…

Damn 8 to 10 oz a auto. You got my attention I will definitely be checking this out. I might have got 6 once usually 2 to 3 oz gotta see what I’m doing wrong here

Yea, @plantaddict these guys are just gonna make seeds in a small pot. When I do bud runs there are only 4 in a 4x4. It’s definitely doable. In the future I plan to just run one and see if I can get over the lb mark. I’ll tag you when I do. Here is an auto that put out 10ozs growing alongside 3 others. It looks a little rough due to my tap water coming out at 1.2 EC but I’ve since put an RO system in and don’t have those issues any more. This is a Cherry Pie that took around 100 days to finish. Despite the looks, the bud was really good. The scales were tared.

Looks like a great project, those Orangeadelic are made by @Redbuds420 . He breeds some fire, those included.
Positive vibes to your prolect, thanks for the tag, i will be pulling up a chair, as well :grinning:

Well, thank the both of you for the opportunity. The way you described the Orangeadelic, I think it would be an awesome cross with that Tangie. I only have one of those seeds left and if I could get that exact pheno that I grew last time, I know it’d be awesome. Only if you could clone autos…

The cloning issue is the only downfall for Autoflowers IMO.
Theres realy no way to save a keeper.
But i sure enjoy the hunt while growing them.i have Quite a few Auto Reg Crosses, i can get you a list and send some out, if you want something for pollen? You may have time.
Just let me know.

Auto weirdness question. I did an auto gorilla glue outdoors. Was really hot and humid. Really big fox tail it was. Caught nice buz wound up making hash. I found two seeds I grew one indoors got huge but again foxtail. I just got rid of it. A friend grew the other seed and it involved some torture probably should be dead but eventually got it figured out. It’s still growing. No signs of flower should have been done long ago. He’s gonna flip the lights just wondering what happened.

Man, I’d have to say it was the genetics and maybe popped a couple nanners. Even though it was only a couple seeds stray pollen from another photo shouldn’t have given the progeny any auto traits at the F1 generation. I know some genetics are predisposed to fox-tailing but it can be worsened by excessive heat and or light. When my tent gets over 85⁰F the branches closest to the light usually get it worse. Seems like when the temps hit mid 90’s I get some fox-tailing to some degree everywhere. That’s why I wont flower in a tent in the summer anymore. Hope this helps.

I figured it self pollinated. First plant I ever grew that fox tailed and I let it go pretty long. Was waiting for it to look different lol. I would have thought both seeds would be auto. Is it possible to torture an auto into a photo?

When I say torture it’s that my friend is new at growing and had a few mishaps. I have a few more seeds left and plan on trying one indoors. Hopefully won’t fox tail. If it did then definitely genetics on that I’d say
