Howdy @TricHolmes, I think the upcoming 4/20 sales will be the best value from retail vendors in the near future. That’s a great strategy! I would recommend to do just that.
In your choices are some of my favorite breeders and varieties, specifically DJ Short and @Josh_Blue with his @Blue_Star_Seed_Co brand. They both work blueberry types which are some of my absolute favorites.
Blueberry and Flo are some varieties I think everyone should have in their collection if possible. Absolute classics and in a class of their own with respect to uniqueness.
Current stocks at the authorized vendors for DJ and Josh that I typically shop at don’t seem to be that full, they’re out of stock on a bunch of their work which is kind of a bummer. Perhaps they will restock before 4/20. In particular I typically shop at DC Seed Exchange, JBC Seeds, and Seeds Here Now for DJ Short or @Blue_Star_Seed_Co genetics.
Blueberry and Flo are classics and with the new 6 seed count packs being sold, they can be had at a great value. I would recommend one of each of those, they’re currently priced at $39 each on DC Seed Exchange before any type of possible 4/20 sale. Last time I shopped for DJ Short genetics at DC Seed Exchange during 4/20 sales I believe they were approximately 40% off for the full packs before the 6 count seed packs were released into the market. This was a few years ago.
For the @Blue_Star_Seed_Co genetics I would recommend to send Josh a message here on the forums through PM and see what he recommends for you in terms of “strong head high stuff” as he knows his work incredibly well and might have some stuff available directly that isn’t in stock at the authorized retailers. Or could perhaps point you towards authorized retailers who has his recommendation in stock. I think ordering direct from the breeder whenever possible is most ideal.
As for Bodhi, that’s not really in my wheelhouse so I can’t confidently give recommendations on his work. I hear it’s great stuff but also a lot of reproductions of his work are going around here on the forums so maybe you can pick some up on here within the community in addition to any retail packs that you find yourself interested in from any of his authorized retailers.
Shopping on 4/20 for the sales will definitely help the seeds budget stretch more than it would otherwise. Going for Blueberry types from DJ Short and Josh with @Blue_Star_Seed_Co is a great idea. The last pack of @Blue_Star_Seed_Co genetics I purchased was on last 4/20 from DC Seed Exchange and I went for his Grape Diesel Kush regulars, a full pack was like $30 during the sale. I prefer regulars and really enjoyed his Family Blues and Blue Star fem work so wanted something in regular form to continue working with those in my preferred techniques and methods.
Definitely go for some Flo and Blueberry during the sale and hit Josh up in PM here on the forums under his @Blue_Star_Seed_Co username to seek recommendations for the type of effects you are seeking.
If you have any cash left over in the seed budget I would recommend splurging on one of DJ Shorts limited releases if any are available that interest you. Blue V-2 isn’t a limited release that I know of but it leans more towards the sativa head high types than some of his other work. It’s Flo Temple Flo based that emphasizes the Thai side of Flo and based on the effects you are seeking I think the Flo types will help provide an accessible route to that for you. Undoubtedly Josh will sort you proper. He’s one of the best in the industry. Many blessings and much love
