Just topped and been steady pruning for micro grow and was wondering if the light intensity should be lower while it’s recovering
I’ve never messed with my lights after topping or training in any way unless the plant(s) is in bad health… you should be fine.
Me either.
I second what @Rhai88 has said.
If you feel that your plants health is questionable then LITFA, but otherwise what the above gentlemen have said.
I would also suggest to ease up on defoliation for at least a few days after a topping. See how the plant reacts and it gives it a chance to recover from the stress.
Well it’s growing in a 1×1 little grow box I usually start seedlings in. But now I’m experimenting with a strain that is mutated and I’m trying to take advantage of it’s mutation and let the extra branches grow this time so I lst bottom few branches down and topped off the rest and it’s working but growing small leaves and I recently tested the par inside and decided to turn it up to around 370 then leaves looking like it was getting burned… so I asked if I should turn down the light until they recover and leaves get bigger
Maybe raise the light instead of lowering the intensity?
Using a maxsisun pb1000 pro
I never change anything with my lights after topping and defoliating. Are your plants showing signs of too much light intensity? If you’re worried about it, try to find the PPFD spec’s of your light at different hanging heights that you can use to input into a DLI calculator. Cheaper than buying a PAR meter and will put you in the right ballpark of light intensity.
I generally agree with what everyone is saying here, that usually no changes are necessary as long as plant health is good going into a topping. In my experience, I do think that it’s good to top around the same time as a repotting. I try to time the topping for mine ideally just a few days before moving the plants up to their final pot size, the roots feeling the extra soil mass seems to make for healthy, bushy plants. Foliar sprays can be a good way to help a recently defoliated or topped plant get the nutrition it needs immediately to bounce back from stress, I like to rotate through fulvic, aloe with silica, and micronutrients for the first three days after a topping or a big Day 1/21/42 defoliation.
Thanks for the advice, it’s a really small micro grow in a 1 gallon bucket dwc . I know it’s hard to do in such a small reservoir but it’s something I’ve been doing for a while now with Folgers cans soda bottles etc. It’s an experiment and fun as all get out to watch but this time I’m trying out new light and with all the stress I’m putting on her it’s hard to get it dialed in
I turned it up to around 370 umoles for a day and it seemed to perk up, but the next day it showed signs of light stress on the new growth. The way it is right now I feel like I should keep it around the intensity of what a seedling would like until it gets back some more leaves that can handle the intensity
I think the coolest part about growing is its your garden. Do your best with what works for you, you’re the one seeing the plants everyday and they’re talking to you.
I thought it’s was all in my head, I’m glad it’s the plant talking to me. Lol. Yes it’s so much fun growing, almost as much as sampling the end product…
