4.Pop it in a crockpot. I mix coconut oil in also but its optional.
strain. use as desired
This is a pretty easy method, just scroll down. Once youve made the butter just add it to cakes, cups of hot chocolate, etc.
Many different ways to go. I find everyone has their preferred method.
If im using flower, i put the butter/fat/oil in the top of a double boiler with the flower, or trim and infuse it at full temp for around 2 hours. (My double boiler is a pot and a metal bowl that sits overtop to form a seal. Just remember to double check the bottom so you dont run dry)
I generally skip the oven decarb. I have done both ways, with an oven decarb and without. I tend to get comparable results with a long double boil.
If you search the internet for “cannabis decarb chart” youll find some good resources about temperature and time
All good information above friend, here’s the recipe I started using some years ago - she does a good job of explaining everything, as well as being a good writer.
Easy Cannabis Coconut Oil Recipe » Emily Kyle, MS, RDN
It’s for coconut oil but you can do butter instead, your MIL might enjoy reading all of this ladies recipes too, she has quite a lot.

I make butter using flower. Add a bunch of flower (fresh, dried, abv, whatever), butter, and a couple cups of water. Simmer for a while (30 mins to an hour, no real worry about the time). Then I strain into a large bowl and put in the fridge overnight. Next day, the butter and water will have separated, with all of the remaining nasty stuff suspended in the water and the butter is a pleasant green color. I dump the water and scrape off whatever goop is stuck to the butter. Then either “clean” it one more time by heating it up with another cup or so of water and recooling - or cut it up, vacuum seal, and freeze it
You are a gentleman and a scholar and a rockstar!!!
Ayyeee niiccceeee thought!!!
How long and at what temp would you leave it in the crock pot beofre straining??
i used the trimmings and fan leaves saved throughout the grow and just tossed it in the crock pot for a few hours with about a pound of butter. strain it with a cheesecloth and let it sit in the freezer for an hour. gather the good stuff and toss the liquid. can’t get much easier than that. except for the straining with the cheesecloth part anyway.
Ticket winner right here!!!
low Simmer for 2–6 hours
Ya gotta do this first:
I do mason jars in the oven for longer though.
Then this is how I make butter:
There’s tons of easy recipes for the butter too.
Off the top of my head…Rice Crispy Treats!
And you can get crazy with it and use Fruity Pebbles, Coco Pebbles, Capn’ Crunch, or Reese’s Cereal if ya want something a bit sweeter.
Emily Kyle, as mentioned by @Organical is a great recipe resource aswell. Her carmels with butter are easy too.

no you don’t. not with my method anyway. i can’t speak for any others, my ex wife did this back in 2000 for the first time after a harvest and it was so potent there was no reason to try anything else. crockpot on low is what we used, i forgot to mention the setting. it’s important not to be on high, yet anyway…
I have used that same basic procedure since around 1981 or thereabout.
I use frosty trim and nice flowers, gind it and put it in butter in crockpot on low (I also add a little water to help reduce the “green taste”.)
I forget where I found this recipe, but I do remember it being called Puna Butter.
I go 10 hours or so, and do the freezer strain process as desctibed.

I just remembered an even more basic method to produce cannabutter for one or two people for quick consumption.
Now this technique I remember from a book (Child’s Garden of Grass)
It was called Honey Slides
Take a couple of joints worth of ganja flower ground up, put it in a light colored frying pan on medium low heat…
Spread the cannabis out, and stir slowly,as soon as you see wisps of steam rising up, turn off the heat. Add some butter, which will melt, stir it well and then add some honey.
I put this on toast or peanut butter and honey samiches.
Or if in a hurry, just wipe the pan with soft white bread, and scarf.
Remember that less is more, it is easy to over consume.
Also the texture may be offensive and hard to eat for some, but has never stopped me.

I don’t fuck around, I use the real deal top choice buds.
As I said, I don’t fuck around I put 11 grams in my brownies…1 cube will definitely fuck you up.
Those are gorgeous!
if i ever had that much at once i would too. had my hemp deal not gone south last year i may have been able to do that. oh well, there’s always next year since i missed the application deadline for this year. have a great weekend!
The easiest way, I’ve done it many times, 4 sticks of butter in small pot, 1ounce of your cannabis, heat it up, slowly, butter will allow you heat it to 220 F, using your thermometer, hold that for 15 minutes, you can see the bubbles, of decarb action, you lower the temp, stir very gently, 20-25 minutes.
Cool strain, pour into an upside down butter dish top, or molds, and BobsYourUncle.
Water can not decarb weed, Butter can, coconut oil can, but NEVER heat olive oil up that much.
Oilve oil, cannabis extractions, should be around 100-105 F.
Just my $.02
Here’s what I do.
I decarb (everything they have said about temp and time is spot on)
Combine decarboxylated flour, butter, and water in a pot. Depending on the situation, I usually cook for 4-6 hours. The amount of water is not a problem as long as it’s enough. You can’t have too much; it’s just going to get separated anyway.
Strain into a large mason jar, and let the water and butter separate overnight. By morning, the mixture will be solidified.
I then dump the water, add fresh water, and put the mason jar on a warming plate just enough to melt the butter. I let it sit and harden again. (I have done this up to three times. )
I end up with some of the cleanest butter, not a single piece of plant matter.
Here are some tips: If you store the butter in a mason jar in the fridge, put it upside down. Pour the water out once it cools and hardens because the butter is now at the bottom. (This is so convenient.)
When you decarb, add a sheet of foil loosely over the top to prevent cannabinoid loss.
When getting the butter, look for the highest fat content. THC binds to the fats.
Buttered coffee is a real thing. Just add butter and toss it in a blender. I thought this was a gross way to go, but after I tried it, I was a huge fan. There’s nothing like starting your day with some cannabutter on toast and a cannabutter coffee. Usually, pair that with a joint right after.
This is how I do it; I’m sure you can tell that everyone will have their process.
Best of luck. After writing all this down, I’m in the mood for butter. I think I’ll start the oven.
