Copying this here for later next week, thanks @Pigeonman hope you don’t mind.
1 question, do you skim off the top contamination when doing wash #1 or after the 60 sec just pull it out and go to wash #2?
Appreciated ![]()
Heya, @LzBoy !
Great to read ya’. The plants are looking gorgeous, other than the obvious and unfortunate circumstances. I hope the budwashing and hashmaking works out for you this round, and everything goes smoother next time. We’re rooting for ya’ down here
All the best in the New Year
Stay up

Very nice grow journal.
Hey @LzBoy that’s some seriously awesome stuff coming up in your tent yo! ![]()
Using a small metal sieve from the dollar store I keep that aside when working and skim off as needed. I also have a very small net for aquariums but it’s harder to clean after so I retired that for the ponds.
I skim much more when washing indoors vs outdoors as with outdoors I can shake the plant in-between buckets knocking off the loose debris.
If there’s lots of schmutz on floating on the surface I will skim off before pulling the plant out for the next bucket to prevent it from being carried over to the next one.
I wet trim before washing so a lot of my mess are larger bits that get stuck to the flower during trim. However, one year there were so many contruction sites in my block that it was a fine particulate haze on the surface of buckets 1 and 2 which locked in my OCD to wash any flower grown outside.

Best of success growmie!

Wow, thanks for the kuddos on the grow
once I figure out the PM problems, which will be easy now that my stubborn ass will do @JoeCrowe sulphur spraying in veg to prevent it.
Thought I had it beat this round, but well. Nope. But lesson learned.
I’ve got a metal food strainer or I’ll try and a plastic drywall straight edge to skim it ![]()
My local store sold me some of that coppergro. When searching OG I believe I saw you were the only one who’s used it. I was told it’s ok to spray in flower if early enough, but my tester bud was nasty.
.
So I was wondering. If I’m going to just make dry ice hash. What would be better.
Buck off all the buds after wet trim, then wash cycle, then into Ziploc bags, no drying or curing, then into freezer for a day or 2 before dry ice shake extraction?
Or.
Treat it as if you’re going to smoke it?
Wet trim, wash cycle, hang dry 2 weeks, then buck off buds, freeze in freezer, then dry ice extraction?
Appreciate y’all ![]()

I always say this, but my advice with powdery mildew is toss the whole pile of contaminated crap in the trash. It’s over, sorry for your loss.
So even after the wash and doing dry ice won’t kill it enough to make it viable for smoking or edibles?
I know you look at everything through the microscope, and do incredibly clean runs, and in search of perfection, and I absolutely love your thread.
But damit! There has to be a freekin way to get something from this 🫨🫨🫨🫨
As well, this was going to be my last grow till after my surgery.
I’ll be off work for at least 6 months, not being able to walk. with no benefits besides medical EI that’s only 55% of my part time wage, and in a full leg cast.
So that’s my dilemma ![]()
I’ve never done dry ice so I can’t suggest anything on that.
I know where @JoeCrowe is coming from but for me its how bad the pm is.
A little specs here and there on the leaves and not buds and i’m not worried… however if it’s in the buds it’s a
and I have tossed plants before that didn’t make me feel comfortable.
Very nice journal. I think reading journals as a best way of learning good with the bad. Far as pm. If it was just small area cut out an discard but if majority of plant I would discard. Really tough call in your situation with nothing goin behind this flower run because of surgery. Best of luck
I know your not going to like my opinion, but id toss it.
Lung infections aren’t fun.
Just my opinion.
I didn’t notice PM. Sorry to hear that.,
Something to try, if you haven’t chopped them yet: Hypochlorous acid. Everything I’ve read says that a. it’ll treat PM, and b. it’s safe to spray in flower. If you might be trashing them anyway, it could be worth a try. You can get a generator on amazon, just uses vinegar, table salt, and water.
Thanks for stoping by @plantaddict
sometimes ya gotta make the hard choice.
I’m about to chop them. I have a dog @C_in_CT I haven’t looked into it but would that be dangerous to him?
I’ve heard of others using a fogger and hypoclorus stuff but only for outdoors.
It’s cool, I’ve come to the conclusion to take the good advice from my peers and cut my losses, learn and do a dam sulphur spray in veg next time.
After a big old wipedown with bleach, clean the room. Straight bleach or diluted?
soak trays and risers in a bleach mix as well, I guess.
Or I’ve got to search OG for proper prevent measures. 2 grows in a row. But not a fukcin 3rd.
Im gonna start more as soon as I can.
Surgery isn’t going to stop me from growing, it’s become to much a part of my life. I can get Mrs.Lz and Max to help out water. It’s at least 2 months out, nothing’s set in stone yet.
So that should be enough time to get some into flower ![]()
Appreciate the advice fellas.

Totally safe for the dog. There are HOCL mouth rinses and it’s used on skin and can be consumed by humans with no ill effects (obviously concentration specific, but safe for the dog at concentrations you’d be using).
I used it in my reservoir to run sterile. I’ve also used it in my kitchen for cleaning surfaces. I have not personally tried it for PM though.
This thread has a lot of great info about HOCL in general. Hypochlorous Acid......a Deep Dive
This post is about trying it for pm outdoors, I think there are other tests in there too. Hypochlorous Acid......a Deep Dive - #4 by BudBusterPro
Wow thanks some great info, but added a bit if confusion to my problem.
Everyone is worried about boystris “bud rot”
Pm turns into boystris? Obviously not smoking any of that… But…
Am I an idiot thinking that if I don’t give the PM time to turn into bud rot, and wash it off, process it quick.
Is that really what I’m trying to prevent?
I’m only I’d say a week out from chopping anyways, so can’t see this helping me on this griw
The eco one is $250 that I don’t have. Plus a flogger. New Ph meter.
As well, I don’t book science that well when numbers get involved, I’m more a visual learner. I’d probably screw up the ratio or Ph level lol.
I’m at post 120ish it’s a great thread, appreciate the link ![]()
Hoping Joe’s sulphur spray in veg treatment will do the trick next round. That’s 15$ local
I also read PM makes the weed week, so that’s also another reason. Shit weed makes me mad when I smoke it…
I always recommend cleaning up your grow! That won’t kill off the mildew, but it does get rid of any bugs trying to hide out or bits of dirt. Dust and cobwebs! Animal hair? Always good to keep it clean.
Totally fair! I used a spray bottle and just go out of the gate with what the eco generator creates based on following the directions (don’t bother with the extra meters, etc).
Just figured I’d toss out an alternate option for future reference!
To avoid having to run the generator to get to a high concentration, I switched to using pool shock in my reservoir and it works the same. You might be able to pick up some of that and mix up your own ~HOCL that way. I use this stuff, there’s also a 52% version, you want just the calcium hypochlorite+inactive, not the ones that are also “conditioner” or whatnot. I still use the generator for making a spray for things though.
I hope you’re able to get a resolution one way or another, and have everything as squared away as possible by your surgery!
Edited to add: there are other concentrators too, I think they talk about some further in the thread that might be cheaper than the eco in canada? not sure.
Absolutely my friend, that’s what I love about this place. I’m still learning at 52
and I’m glad I’m an old dog that can be taught new tricks ![]()
Heck maybe I’ll sell it to the little shits at the high school ![]()

Jk on that.
Back to reading. It’s to late tonight to chop and I need garbage bags. Such a shame I wish I could drop them off at a agricultural recycling place.
No. But if you have PM then you are right in the sweet spot of problems which has boytris around the corner.
blahhhhhhh! Time for powdery mildew truth bombs. It thrives best in dry environments. Due to it’s lifecycle, the dryness is part of it’s reproductive cycle. Asexual mildew, like the one growing on Cannabis, loves 25% humidity. Botrytis on the other hand, does not. Botrytis secrets an organic acid that disintegrates the plant, and that will trigger asthma attacks. Powdery mildew on the other hand, inserts haustorium into the stomata of the plant, draining resources from cells inside.
Now… Remember people, that powdery mildew requires one single thing to live: The host is alive.
All the information available by a google search about powdery mildew is total hog shit. If you want to actually learn something about it, read a publication called the “new phytologist”. Their research is top notch.
Edit: I put bronchitis attacks, but I meant asthma!
