The water needs to flow for 20-90 seconds through a field of 0.3-0.4T to be altered as-per the study results: A single magnet would not be helpful, you would need a long enough length of magnetized pipe that would maintain the water in 3,000-4000 gauss field for 20-90 seconds… if the water flowed at one inch per second, that would be a 20 to 90 inch magnetized area… and water usually flows through piping a lot faster than one inch per second, so the length of the magnetized area would need to be increased accordingly

Since that study came out, you will find many devices like this. They attach right to the garden hose. 
I believe as we are all living stardust surviving because of a magnetic field.
