MB's Greenhouse Growing

Well after lurking around and reading through old posts, I figured it might be a good idea to start a bit of a journal, if for no other reason than to help myself keep track of what/when I do things.

I started a handful of plants in a grow tent back in April, but had a bit of a rocky start as the grow room was too cold and humid, and I had the lighting way too strong before getting it dialed in with photone.

Here they are when they first sprouted back in April, along with some lavender, thyme, bee balm, and lemon balm, the strains are all from 7east and there are deaths breath, dragon punch, and a black beauty x headstrong, who seems to be the strongest grower so far.

Here they are a little over a month later when I put them in the greenhouse.

And here they are today, about 4 days after being out out with some %30 shadecloth
Black beauty x headstrong

Dragon punch:

And another bbxhs:

They’re growing in 25 gallon fabric pots, the soil is 10% perlite 10% vermiculite, 25% worm castings, 55%promix hp and amended with gaia greens 4-4-4, some kelp, and a little alfalfa for flavor.

Provided everything goes well I’m hoping to grow out a male in the tent so I can brush some pollen on the lowers and get some seeds to play around with, I also have a couple mephisto beans so I was toying around with the idea of crossing a photo and an auto, and working it back to an auto over a couple generations just for funsies as I feel it would be a solid way to better teach myself about what actually gets passed on in a cross.

Ive also been having an issue with some of my fan leaves looking a bit rusty, i think its from the sun burn when they were babies but its still stressing me out something fierce

And with all that out of the way, I hope to contribute to this wonderful community and I’m excited to learn, make some friends, and smoke some buds along the way

They look good. I’m not sure on the leaves I’ll let others chime in there, but they look very happy and healthy aside from the small issue. You could prune those leaves.

I feel like I always have weird leaves toward the bottom, especially early on. Usually it’s just an overwatering thing, because it’s hard to know exactly how much they need as a seedling.

Good luck with your grow and log!

Tried my hand at taking a couple clones today, clone “a” is a black beauty x headstrong and clone “b” is a dragon punch.

The plan is to let them veg under the mild light for a week or two and see if they root, and then flip them to 12/12 so I can see if my guess at preflower sex was correct. If these two testers root ill grab a clone off the other two outdoor plants to remove some of the guess work.

I did end up taking the advice to cut off the ugly looking fan leaves but other than that everything looks pretty well the same, so I’m thinking I’ll update this weekly.

Well I guess I’m a little behind, but things are going pretty smooth. The outdoor plants grow surprisingly fast and have much softer foliage, with a really striking herbal mint smell when touching the leaves on the bbxhs, and a pleasant “weed” smell on the other two.

Also have a friend taking care of some cuttings under 12/12 to try and get a more surefire sexing on the plants, i figure as long as I get them out before like July 1 I should still get a solid harvest, and I’ll yank the dudes to replace em with fresh dudettes :stuck_out_tongue:

Weekly update here, and things are going pretty well. The greenhouse plants are getting big and seem healthy as can be, even though I’m still not sure if I’ve got any ladies amongst the bunch lol.

(From first to last its black beauty x headstrong, dragon punch, and another bbxhs.)

The clones are starting to look like they’re doing something so hopefully that will change soon. they’re a little haggard due to a dry area and inconsistent hand spraying so for my next go I’ll probably grab a proper aero cloner or something of the sort and use clones from plants I already know are female for my outdoor run next year.

As a side note I picked up some 2ml cryotubes and some silica beads so even if I accidentally put 3 males outside I can at a bare minimum collect and store some pollen. I think the bbxhs are first generation cross seeds so I like the idea of just doing an f1 (f2?) To see if i can find some variations, other than that ill wait and see how everything grows and make the real decision later on down the line.

Huzzah, we have a lady! She’s a death breath who put out pistils not 3 days after flipping to 12/12. Will keep closer eyes on the rest of em now that I know what I’m looking for

Another lil mid week update. The plants were starting to take a little damage rubbing against the sides of the greenhouse so I decided to tie them over pretty dramatically to get them off the walls and maybe break apical dominance.

As you can see in the second pic I left one plant un-bent, and the middle one is probably a male and doomed anyway so figured why not.

I think for my next run I’ll flip the whole tent to 12/12 when they’re like 2 weeks old for a couple days then back to veg to see if I can get female plants to show pistils, before moving my alotted 4 plants outdoors for the season. Either that or get some feminized seeds, which could be a fun project in and of itself to try and make throughout the winter months.

It’s only been like 18 hours since I bent the plants down and they’re already facing up! Knew they would do so but didn’t expect them to move so quick

Another update on a rather windy and rainy Canada day :canada:. This week i’ve chosen my two favorite males and composted the unlucky bachelors. I chose the ones that managed to grow the best despite my blunders with light, temperature, soil too hot, vegged too long in too small a pot etc with the hopes the progeny will be good n hardy lol.
For a couple of males they sure do make an awful lot of stink however, the bbxhs has a sharp skunky fuel smell, and the dragon punch smells more herbal and fruity. Maybe a little like fresh mint and cherries.
First ones a bbxhs, second is dragon punch.

The greenhouse gals are looking great, the tall ones getting taller and the bushes getting bushier. We had a couple days there where we hit like 35c and the inside greenhouse temp was about 42 with humidity at 70% but really none of the plants seem any the worse for wear. I did however pick up a new big exhaust fan so ill get that all set up before the next round of heat comes through.

Thats all for now, hope everyone had a great long weekend!

Got what will hopefully be my pollen collecting setup all figured out.

The one on the mirror looks to me like it has a few pods about ready to burst, but I’m not sure on how long the male plants take to do their thing. Ideally no more than a week or two!

So, that plant was a male or female? I had forgotten all about it!

The two that I folded over are both female and showing pistils, the tall one looks maybe female too. I was just waiting for them to show a little more prominently to take a good picture and update!

Think I have a male hermaphrodite, its dropped some pollen already but seems to have pistils.

Also pollinated a lower branch on each plant in the grow tent at mystery location b. I had pollen from a bbxhs and a dragon punch, so hit like with like for more seeds, and also did a deaths breath with one of each as I didn’t get a male and got carried away with the paint brush lol.

Week 4 of flower

In the greenhouse we have two confirmed females and one that’s still taking its time, but looks ladylike to me.

The males have given plenty of pollen so i’m planning to chop and compost em today or tomorrow. Overall the tin foil was way easier to collect from, just had to fold it in half and jiggle it to get it in a pile, then scooped it in to the little tube with a playing card.

I fear great tragedy shall befall the greenhouse today. I let them go until there was no shadow of a doubt, but two of the plants are in fact male.

There’s still one female out here so not all is lost, and now that my plant count is down I’m less hesitant to post pictures of the plants in flower, so ill get some good ones later today!

And a couple of pre-mortem shots:

can’t remember where I read it, but I’ve hung on to the idea of keeping my pots aligned the same all season so the root systems don’t have to send energy to compensate for wind and light as much. makes sense to me but I couldn’t tell you if it makes much of a difference. its tougn to stick to! I always want to tweak them around all summer
