Got the damn BT spray done again! It’s very difficult with the hand held sprayer, but I fear the hose end sprayer will knock down the plants from water weight again. I wish BT lasted more than one day! The caterpillar bastards hatch and grub in between the week of spraying. It’s really annoying that there is no such thing as preventive maintenance for these fuckers. I pulled quite a few off the DBHP again and they munched some bud. Always lose some. Ugh! The DBHP is drooping so badly! I hope she makes it 2 more weeks. I leave next friday for vacation and they just aren’t ready yet. Buds are just so fat and heavy. They are supported the absolute best we could do, but I still worry. At least if she falls, she’s close enough to harvest.
We’ve had what we call Santa Ana wind conditions for the last 2 weeks. Where the winds come the opposite way across the desert instead of off the ocean. It’s so dry. We still have like 6% humidity. It feels like the desert. Lips are chapped, hands and feet are chapped. Skin is dry and itchy. Can’t wait for some tropical Kauai action!

I’ll try anything. When I looked up caterpillars in Southern Cali, our local ag extension lists most as some sort of avocado moths. Probably what I have as I have 2 avo trees back there.

Any of my peeps got any Fem seeds to trade of the following variety either old skunk strains, kush or og strains? I can trade some of the Blue Gelatos I won or Holy Punch, strawberry diesels and I believe I have a Bruce Banger Fem too.

Just packed up the Botafumeiros to cure. Biggest plant yield of the year. Almost all useable bud. Barely any caterpillar damage and as you saw her, the buds were on steroids. I couldn’t even fit all of her in a 3 gallon bucket. I had to pack about 6 ounces in Mason jars just so there would be a bit of room in the bucket. Just by picking up the bucket. I’m guessing close to 2 lbs. She took up 5 tiers on the drying rack and it’s 6 feet across! Dayum!!! Winning! Fucken Santa Ana winds though, she’s a bit drier than I would like and yesterday a bit too wet. Can’t have everything, I guess!

@Mongobongo @MomOnTheRun did you let the DBHP go to amber trichs? She is crazy racy with clear. Seriously, took an hour before she mellowed. I’m trying to keep her up as long as possible, but she is worrisome as hell. Her buds are as massive as the Botafumeiros already, she can barely hold them up as it is and she has a few weeks to go for even all cloudy trichs me thinks… Truly hoping she doesn’t get even racier, she’s already outer space weed on a rocket.

It sounds like you have had more success with the later flowerng varieties re: crapperpillar and rot damage, would that be a fair assessment?

Absolutely. We have 3 months of what I call May Gray and June Gloom which lasts through July. Where it’s warm but humid and ocean cloud layer. I am gonna try again, but spraying even earlier for caterpillars next year. If they hadn’t got in the Good Shit or JS they wouldn’t have gotten bud rot.

It was easier to spot them on Charlotte, she had big dense buds too. She was in a container though, much smaller plant. That’s why I’m thinking the early’s esp. Indicas, I’ll go smaller in containers next year.

Welcome to my world. 8-10% humidities for the last two months. At least the winds have settled down for now. 4º last night, 50º today and probably melt all the snow or a good bit. It’s a struggle to keep a satisfactory growing environment here. I’ll get it eventually.
Sounds great about your harvest, minus the moths. Very impressive for flower garden weed! peace
