Melvin2 fails, and succeeds, with autos!

This round I’m starting with 10 Demon Tao Auto IBL from a @Wizdom auction, and 7 fem auto Old School Mango Haze from @In_vino_veritas

The goal was to pollinate a little of each female with the Demon Auto Tao.

Each pack had a 100% germ rate but there was one seed of each that took about 3 days longer to crack open.

The fail…

I normally use a DIY seed starting mix of peat/perlite/lime sometimes with compost or EWC.

I decided to risk it and go with some reused mix.

The Demon Tao autos didn’t like something, either the mix or the way I handled the germed seeds after soaking and putting them in the mix. Only 3 are up. The straggler’s cots sat just on top of the surface for a week but today has finally opened up.

Mango Haze, all seeds except for the straggler came right up and are doing fine. The straggler tried but twisted itself around before dying.

It’s been about 2 weeks since potting. I really should have written that down.

Following along for this one. Those Demon Auto Tao IBL are originally from TopTaoSeeds. Very old school breeder doing autos for a long time. These will be a little more old school than the newer autos. I hope you enjoy :v:

I said I’d never do autos but I think circumstances called for it. I’m in a new place (much smaller) and I have to keep prying family members out of the loop. I’m putting my NewGanjaBoy style cab to use.

They are already stinking up the room so I’ll have to shut the doors and run the carbon filter before I get any visitors.

Wish I had another pack of Demon Auto Tao to go along with these. I dont know if there’s even time to have some shipped and sprouted to provide pollen for this run.

Well here they are. The three Demon tao in the front/bottom and 6 Old School Mango Haze in the back. The mango Haze are developing faster than the demon tao. Whether it’s genetics, or one strain just thrives better in my reused potting mix is yet to be seen.

I haven’t dosed them with nutes but it’s looking to be about that time.

About a week later. The Mango Haze were leggy to start (a bit far from the light) but are filling in now that they are getting better light. The Demon Auto Tao didnt stretch as much and look to be good candidates for micro grows so far. All being fed with about quarter strength Jack’s 20-20-20 plus epsom with every watering.

Here are my 3 Demon Auto Tao. The straggler seed is trying. Looks like I had some crinkle to start but the leaves are straightening out.

The six Old School Mango Haze are all coming along.

11 days later…

All of the fem mango haze were a bit underfed so we’ve upped the nutes on everything. They really started stretching under the metal halide. There are pistils everywhere and seem to be slightly ahead of the Demon’s maturation wise, so far.

The Demon Auto Tao don’t look quite as underfed but I’m only seeing a few pre-flowers. The two normal looking ones are males. That’s good news as I’ll be able to get a seed run out of this for more autos.

The straggler runt has yet to show preflowers but is actually starting to develop as a whole.

I did a bit of defoliating. Here is before and after…
