Hey so I have a 750 watt metal halide how far off of my young plants should they be?
If you’re talking about seedlings that are just popping through the soil, that’s probably too much light from any distance, unless you’re in an industrial building and can hang it 10 feet up. If possible, get an LED or T5 or fluorescent to be safe.
Is the ballast adjustable? The T5 is best they say. I use a 400 watt metal halide at 30 inches.
Yes it goes from 600 to 1000 its about 30 inches off and there about 7 days out of the dirt
I put my freshly sprung seedlings about 6-8" underneath of an un-cooled glass hood that houses a 400W MH.
Under 750W, I’d go at least 12" if cooled, 18-24" if not, at least until you see how they behave. Raise the lamp obviously if the plants show signs of stress. You don’t have to, but I lower the lamp (or raise the plants) if no stress is observed.
I’m cheap so use t5 for first few weeks but Have started with MH…for me makes them grow way fast with the MH.
I think you will be fine. You can go closer, I wait until they are a little older then lower it to about 18". Each person has their own way of doing things and each strain is different how they react to things.
