Hey guys, long time generational hashmaker here who’s just finally dipping his toes into a grow that is entirely his own. I’ve got a 4x4 veg tent set up, and a 6x4 for flower on the way. I definitely plan on breeding both to get exactly what I want out of each strain, and to experiment with some crosses of my favorites. A fully seeded crop, at least this early on in the game, is NOT what I am looking for, quite the contrary… Cutting clones and pollinating in a separate area seems to be the logical way to go about this.
My question here today is what is the minimal care that goes into:
-Keeping a male plant alive long enough to produce pollen
-Keeping a female clone alive long enough to produce seeds (with zero regard for anything else coming off said female. For all intents and purposes of this question, assume that I’d be flat out chucking everything but the seeds from said clone.)
My actual plants that I plant to harvest are getting plenty of TLC, and I’m not really sparing any expense there, but I would like to cheap out a bit if possible in this aspect of creating a separate small area or two for these breeding purposes. How small of a light could I use on said male plant and female clone? Could I flower something out in a 1 gallon on a really low watt led in a real small tent or under the bottom shelf in a closet? I have an extra 6 watt LED from my planted tank that I wouldn’t mind repurposing for either or keeping a clone to knock up or to get a male to pollen, the light is made for plant growth and seems to do well in my planted tank with lucky bamboo and all sorts of other stuff in there. Also, can I just cut a clone of a male and keep it in a really small container and get pollen off of that?
Thanks in advance, and I wish you all some surprise hash in your future.
At the moment they start to flower, just grow them like the females : reinforce PK. And test the limits of the male, they are generally eating a lot more PK than females. Just this, it’s promoting convenient “full flowering stage”.
To don’t make it last an age for nothing count 40-60W LEDS / sqft or 150W neons/HPS / sqft.
If you want to go minimalist, take cheap domestic bulbs (the warmer possible) and make an array of 5 or 6 well distributed.
You can flower normal plants vegged two weeks in a gallon. I’m going as down that 2 liters for seeds.
You don’t need ton of sensimilla, but tons of seeds.
Totally but take a stem more. Place it in a bottle of water, 12/12 or window.
I have cut male branches that had pollen sacks off the males i wanted to keep. I put them in 12/12under a couple of CFL style bulbs in a solo cup of water. The mouth of the solo cup is covered with paper like a manhole cover. I stab the cuttings through the paper. The cutting continues to flower, and drops pollen on my little circle manhole cover of paper.
Thats as minimal as i could tthink to keep it alive but have pollen
I stuck a couple branches of one of my dudes in a solo cup of tap water and had it on top of a square mirror in a Black Wally world tote lid closed up no light in the dark and he still dumped pollen for a week straight till he fizzled out.I have pollen in my freezer still.
