MN Outdoor Grow! Visiting my ladies for the first time in a few weeks (first time grower)

So long story short I was gifted 4 “Runtz” seedlings from a coworker at the dispensary I work at. Before working at the dispensary I had been just fine receiving a bag and smoking it, hardly caring about any of the intricacies of the craft or what went into my flower before I got it, but now I’ve got the bug and would rather grow my own cannabis. When my fiancé and I get our own place, I’ll be allowed to indoor grow but for now I have to settle on Zone 5 gardening. In permaculture terms that is an unmanaged wilderness zone furthest from human activity. As it takes 25 minutes to drive to my plants, I’ve essentially been growing them with biweekly check ins and nothing else. I used some basic potting soil and compost mix from Menards and mixed it into five gallon buckets with drainage holes.

Sadly, one of the 4 plants was a male and during one biweekly gap, he grew his pollen pods, opened them, and had already pollinated the ladies. So now I have 3 varieties of “Runts IBL” seeds coming in and one torched up dad lol. Anyways, time to debut our ladies.

(As an aside, they all got named after walking dead characters lol)
This one is “Michonne” and she’s huge. Easily the biggest and the nicest smelling, pure sweet candy smell mixed with light diesel notes. Decent budding sites, more messy, but still close together. I’m happy to have seeds from this plant as well, the sugar smell is very nice and she’s very vigorous

This is “Maggie”. She’s the furthest alone and she actually has a lot of fucking trichomes. She’s got the least impressive size, amount of bud sites, and smell. She smells mostly like rotten fruit. Kinda like rotten guava tropical drink smell. Sucks that that is the terp profile, but oh well. I’ll probably just pick through for some seeds and freeze the rest for hash making.

This is “Negan” she’s got a super subtle mango smell to her and a little candy sweet + undertone of gas. The internodal spacing is actually crazy there’s like a bud every 1/2 inch and they are nice and spaced out, each looks to be a good size. She’s the second tallest, and has good pistil size too. Excited to have seeds of this one to search for a more powerful mango while keeping the neat and tight bud sites.

As I tended my plants, I helped the owner of the land with some maintenance of her property. Some maple trees were starting to over hang her home, so I went up on the roof and trimmed them back. Her apple tree is an old girl too and it seems like she’s at the end of her life too, because she fruited so heavily this year she cracked in half down the middle. So I stripped the maple branches of their leaves and used them as living mulch for my girls (chop and drop kinda lol)

and baked a beautiful pie with all of the apples i picked!

Today I’m going to pick some wild grapes and make some juice and jam from them, after I’m done visiting the girls of course!! Thanks for following along, and if anyone has any advice or recommendations let me know! (Also wondering how far along in flower you think these gorgeous girls are) Have a great day everyone

Good luck, also in mn but grow indoors. Gave 2 plants i dodnt have room for to friend who planted them on his farm and they are huge. Unfortunately it feels like its going to be a early winter and doubtful they will make it since they are 10 week flower strains. Dont know much about runtz, whats the flowering time? If they arent done by early oct you may be in trouble.

Hey man! Totally get what you’re saying about early winter. End of August was surprisingly cool this year. I’ve checked some other photos I’ve taken and I think it’s safe to say I’m 6-ish weeks into flower. These past couple of years have had some warmer and downright hot October days even up until the 20th or so. I’m hoping I can bide my time and last until October 10th or so :D. If it’s starts to get cool too soon, I’ve got them tucked away in the south western corner of the property so that the little microclimate can make it about 10 degrees or so warmer :crossed_fingers:
