Motaco Grows in Colorado

The Chemo were only fed distilled water, so I am not sure what was up with them.

@Gpaw
That is my next step. The drops. If the ph pens go bad so quickly I will just stick with the drops.

I got my new strips in today and tested them. They are accurate enough.

Sometimes we are spoiled for luck. I have 4 Chemo plants left and they all appear to be female! I am not crying in my beer, but I was hoping to get a good male from this. It just wasn’t meant to be I guess. I culled down the least impressive plant and now I have three beautiful phenotypes to choose from. All three are different. From short and bushy to taller and more columnar. All of them look very wld. They are right around three weeks old in this pic.

Here they are after enjoying a little summer shower. With a view of a rainbow.

This is a clone from the AllStar Mexican momma. Set to flower with the BC bud in a week or two here. I might give it an extra week of veg just to let it catch up with the BC bud in size.

Update here folks. I really need to work on my soil mix. I am using Happy Frog out of the bag. My climate is so dry that I never added perlite but I am going to start adding it for better drainage and use some sort of mulch to keep in moisture from the top.

I had a classic case of little clone in a big pot with the Mexican. The top layer kept drying out, and left a stagnant wet layer at the bottom. I am pretty sure the poor thing got root rot, because it was growing amazingly and then leaves started falling off overnight. Definitely some sort of fungus or something going on below the surface. Plant was going great and then ended up on life support practically overnight. The mother is doing fine though. Just as simple as taking a new clone and trying a new soil mix.

The UBC Chemo wants more aeration in the soil too. This is my favorite pheno that will hopefully be sticking around. Ultimately the proof is in the smoke. Luckily it is pretty hardy and isn’t experiencing any stress like it’s siblings.

Have you used the happy frog before? I used it for a while, and kind of hated it. I found it really hard to not overwater, and if it dried out at all, it became hydrophobic and then to get it to take water, you had to drench it. Vicious cycling ensued. I started using Roots original a few years ago, and really like it. Overwatering will always be a risk, but the Roots doesn’t become hydrophobic as easily. :+1:

Thank you buddy. I am dealing with a similar situation. Vicious cycling is a perfect explanation. Thirsty plants and it is damn difficult to give them the amount of water they want and not overwater them. Honestly, no I do not like the Happy Frog but I don’t know what else to use.

I liked roots 707 but it was too hot for my plants. I am glad to hear they have another selection.

I was going to buy a bag of Black Gold organic mix, but I have heard mixed things. I got to find something though. I don’t want to have to mix and cook my own soil recipe. But I will if I have to!

Thanks for the soil recommendation. :+1:

Edit/Update: The local hydro shop carries Roots Classic. I will buy some, mix with perlite, and try again.

Try fabric pots and see what you think of them.
They are more resistant to over watering, I’ve been using them both, but for anything over 2 gallons I like fabric better.

I’ve always grown the Mexican in Ocean Forest. I tried Happy Frog a couple of times but found that it compacted too much and had drainage issues. Also, I got a soil moisture meter a few years ago, it helps a lot.

I am still around. Just a little busy.

Hello guys! I have been so busy that I honestly haven’t been able to focus on my grow the way I would like to. Just saying hello and sharing progress. A bit overgrown, a bit over fertilized, but rocking along.

I have backed up two phenos of JOTI Chemo.

Chemo pheno #1 looks to be an excellent SOG plant.

Chemo plant #2 has a bit more smell, and is a squat little branchy plant.

They have more narrow leaves than I was expecting, but are definitely Indica leaning.

And I still have my ‘93 Mexican momma. Fully recovered from stem rot. I am going to take a bunch of cuts and start a new momma soon.

Found your thread after the Christmas Tree win, and see you’ve got Chemo going. Just received some from JOTI a few days ago, he’s got a 2 for 1 (order a strain and he doubles it) plus throws in a freebie. So interested to see how you like his Chemo. Also wanted to ask on the flowering time of the Christmas Tree if you recall.

Thanks again, and Merry Christmas MotaCO…Mo Taco…Motaco! :slightly_smiling_face: That’s a pretty fun username.

The flowering time on the Zacatecas is roughly three months.

As for the Chemo, unfortunately it never amounted to much. Pretty bland weed, and it went hermi a week or two before it finished.

Awesome, thanks.

Booo, not what I wanted to hear on the Chemo.

Yeah, I only got to try one though. Fingers crossed yours is nicer than mine. It also had some semi auto tendencies. Maybe from small pots? I don’t know.
