Hey everyone, I’m new on the site, and I figured it’s time to put myself out there. @FreshFrozen and I have been great friends for about 25 years, through thick and thin we’ve always managed to agree on one thing- our passion for the medicine. Over the years, and especially when I bought my first house ten years ago, @FreshFrozen has always encouraged me to grow said medicine. I was always hesitant and TBH I was scared to fail. Over this past year, growing has been legalized in our state, so I got some clones from a work friend, and threw them outside in some 5 gallon buckets just to see what would happen, what I did not realize was thas was the first day of the rest of my life. As the season went on I found myself loving and caring for these plants, making mistakes left and right, but determined to learn from every mistake I made. In the end I chopped everything down due to mold after 4 straight days of rain, heat, and humidity. Sad, yet undeterred, I realized I had finally found true passion in a hobby for the first time in my adult life. We washed the majority of the harvest, and I believe he’s found his passion, he’s elevating his game every day these last 4 months, and as am I. After that I decided that I wanted to do organics and stay truly 100% organic. I bought my first 4x4 set up in mid October and I have not looked back. My first cycle did not go as planned, I had surgery on both elbows to repair tendonitis in early December and did not get the ladies transplanted in time before the surgery. I fought with nutrient.depletion the entire flowering cycle so much that I was not paying attention to the rest of the plant and didn’t catch the intersex traits on one of the three. The entire crop was pollinated. Again sad, I still remain undeterred, again learning from every misstep I take. Amazing how much wiser I feel in the last 9 months. The thing you have to understand about me is once I find something I love, I don’t have the word quit in my vocabulary. My refusal to fail and hunger to learn has led me down a new path, and a very exciting one - the No Till. I’m using BuildASoil take and bake soil, cooked it for 2 weeks, put it into a grassroots 3x3 bed, inoculated, cover cropped and covered with BuildAsoil living mulch.
Last night I completed the first step in the process. I look forward to sharing my progress with all of you and am excited to see what I can accomplish moving forward. Happy growing Y’all, much love.
Welcome to Overgrow @MrHuntington.
Im new here too, and very happy with the vibe and great people! Youve come to the right place.
Looking foward to following along!! I run a No-Till 4x8 grassroots bed w/cover crop. Your definitely in good hands already if your going the buildAsoil way. And your close buddy that got you here!! Sounds like a solid dude and friend.
How do you plan to manage watering? Have you looked into Blumats? I highly highly recommend!
Set up looks good and you’ve got all grounds covered. Id look into 1 more fan tho, placed opposite of the one you have in there now.
Welcome to OG bro. The people on this site are genuinely the best around and I’m sure you’ll love it here. I’m currently on my first “real” run and i also made the mistake of not looking hard enough for pollen sacks. It’s a bummer for sure but live and learn and all that. Well have fun and good luck.
Definitely want to get into blumats next cycle, I just purchased the moisture probe to help with watering this cycle, but I’m just trying to be methodic with my approach, couple steps at a time. I also believe I should know how to water by hand before I go into automation.
The probe will help quite a bit. Follow the instructions to the T when setting it up and hydrating the bed, otherwise youll get an inaccurate reading. You gotta remember that bed is sitting flat on the tent floor, theres nowhere for the water to go, except pooling.
Ive got 2 in my bed and theyre invaluable. Really helps to get things dialed in. When the time does come for you to venture to blumats, dont waste your time with the 5" carrots. Get the 9"maxi. Also go for the bluesoak soaker lines, they really help to evenly distribute the water and slowly. You dont want to be just dumping heavy streams of water. In No-Till, The soil is rich and loamy, utilize the natural capillary action and allow the soils hydrostatic pressure to balance out. Also try to stay away from watering right next to the probe with hand watering. Take probe readings every 24hrs, that way theyre most accurate.
Not trying to ramble, just a few tips. Best of luck broski. Im subbed for this. I suspect youll knock it out of the park.
Awesome stuff here @MrHuntington
I, too, can relate to going through many hobbies before finding one that sticks like growing plants has. My grow is a little different style than this. It’s always cool to see the different ways people choose to do it. The possibilities are nearly infinite.
You’ve got the winning combination of curiosity + grit. Gonna be some exciting things coming out of your garden before you know it!
PS - I dig the sign on your basement wall
Glad to see another fellow grower hailing from Misny Country!
Great information! I was planning on using the 9" carrot and the blusoak, I’ve been doing some preliminary research on it between cycles, but for sure happening next cycle, so for right now, I’m just using the cure can. Appreciate the love.
Alright everyone, the tent has been humming for the last few days, no issues with temp/humidity etc. I did switch the humidifier and heater around after some kind advice. Transplanted about 30.minutes ago.
Update: ladies are super happy in their new home, gave the Blue Dream a topping to even out the canopies, heat steady between 77-80° and humidity is 67-69%. PPFD between 425-475. Tomorrow I’ll be scrubbing the other 4x4 that I was drying in, and inserting 3 mothers that I just transplanted into 15 gallon grassroots pots. More pictures to come.
