My aquaponic adventures

Got an updated pic of the garden today… Nice little bit of growth from 2 days ago

The new veg tent is coming along. I’m putting in time on it between pipe cuts, lol

Well, flood #1 in the new room happened :person_facepalming:. A pump wasn’t fully plugged in to a new outlet, it stopped, a syphon happened… Blah blah, lol.

That’s all cleaned up, and the plants have been moved!!

Also, the pots on the railing I’m looking after seem to have multiplied, hahaha

I have to admit, I did add 3 of the pots myself… My first planted pots, lol. My goal is to get these to trail like no one here has seen, and then slowly start to build hanging basket for other people

The ebb/flow plumbing is all done and running, happily :metal:

Next, the AC and sump pump for the AC drainage, then the flower tent and the plumbing that goes with that .

Getting close! Which is good, because this garden is getting a little ridiculous, haha

The plants seems to be ok with the new setup

The external loop syphon for the veg tent took a couple days to nail down, but it’s running now perfectly. It floods right to top of the of the bed, and drains down to below the bottom of the fabric bags. I couldn’t be happier :metal:. Now to duplicate it for the flower tent :person_facepalming::joy:.

Speaking of the flower tent, I have the frame setup in the grow room . I had to move the big drums a little which caused a tiny leak, so the fish drum is excluded from the system for now. I think it’ll be ok though, there’s monster filter on it and the heater is in there.

The sump also has a leak somewhere. I ordered a 3" ball valve (for 50 f’ing dollars, gah!), and I have a spare 3" fernco, so when the delivery gets here I’ll start in on being able to detach the sump. The. I can take it outside and test it to see what’s going on. Also, with the sump shutoff going in, I’ll be able to finish plumbing the second tent and the two tents will act as sumps for each other. I should be able to get the sump disconnect done this weekend, and ideally everything in place in the flower tent. Plumbing should take a day to cut up and glue, 24 hours for that to dry… Next Wednesday I should have the second tent up and running. Another day for the sump. By next weekend the whole room should be up and running :crossed_fingers:. Somewhere in there I also need to setup the AC and plumb the outlet through the walls to my office, where the tent used to be, and the sump pump is staying. A nice lil cover story of the dehumidifier in the room with the 7’ fish tank will explain why water is shot out of the front of the house every now and then

Things like getting a little busy in here, lol.

Good news/bad news… Bad news, I found a crack in the bottom of my sump :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:. Good news, it wasn’t leaking because of my siliconing skills, haha.

So, I need a new sump and home depot doesn’t carry the long bins anymore - and I can’t find anything else similar right now. Crap. I have no choice but to modify a 55 gallon drum, which sucks because I lose a lot of water capacity… But what can ya do :person_shrugging:.

I need to pick up another stick of 3" pvc pipe to finish up the new sump, including a giant ball valve so I can cut off the sump from the system of I need to do anything in the future :metal:.

Oh yeah, 3 days ago (on August 8th, for my own records, lol) I threw about 1.5cups of worm castings and 1/2 cups of blood meal into a stocking and dropped that into the black bin under the plants. So, nutes are picked up there, shot up to the fish drum, to the media drum and back to the plants. The plants sure do seem to like it :metal:

Lol, pure silicone sealant is 100% the duck tape (or duct) of hydro and aquaponics.

More grow room work done today… The feed and return lines for water coming in and out of the tent are glued and drying. I need to build the external loop syphon for it still, but technically plants can move tomorrow :grin:

More grow room work… All uniseals in the flower tent have been siliconed, the carbon filter and fan have been installed and the big aglex M1000 has been hung.

Tomorrow is the initial water test, drilling the grow bed and building rhe external syphon. Once that’s all done, the plants that are ready will be moved over :metal:

I think I’m going to try and do a defol while I’m moving plants, then give them a couple days to recover and they’ll go into 12/12

From the bottom of the pots, they’re about 16" off the ground, and the big Zam Express in the back is almost 6’. I’m still trying to decide if she needs to go into the flower tent, or if I’m going to keep her in the back of the veg tent

I’m a little cramped for space in the grow room so the tent is getting filled up, but…

I got some plant shots tonight. I can fit everything in one frame

Went for the water test today… Not good. Found a large crack in one of the bins. So, that’s pulled out and I need to find another bin to drill and prep. That isn’t going to be happening today though, vacuuming up the leaked water toasted my back. So, it’ll wait another day. Still aiming for everything to be up and running by the end of the weekend… :crossed_fingers:.

Today’s task, deal with the stench coming from the grass that was under the pool

If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears

I tossed and Idea down in @Kasper0909 thread for ya

What’s the smell like? Ammonia or just rotten? Also what was in the pool? I’d imagine your ph is low in that area and garden lime is your friend.

It’s been described by neighbous as horse manure, 1 person literally thought we had brought some jn as fertilizer, lol.

Water

Its a 10’ round pool that’s about 3’ deep… Just big enough for a cool down with a few people :metal:. So, it sat there for a month and a half, wet, with no sun… I think if I had’ve left the thing up for the rest of summer, it’d just be a patch of mud :person_facepalming::joy:.

We’ve had about 2" of rain in the past 24 hours, I’m hoping that’s going to help, hahaha

I’ve gotta figure out what to do for next year

Lime should fix you up real quick. Make your grass grow like crazy too.

There are all kinds. Powder, granules, dolomite, fast acting. The agricultural lime would be safe for pets. Don’t get a harsh industrial lime as it could possibly burn your puppies paws.

The cracked bin got replaced and siliconed yesterday. I have the grow light and fans all on trying to help dry the silicone :crossed_fingers:. The new bin sat outside in the rain overnight and held water without an issue, so it think this should be good to go!

The plants are getting a little out of hand, they definitely need a defoliation ASAP.

Today is another water test. If that’s good, build the external loop syphon. If that all goes well, tomorrow I’ll defol and move plants tomorrow

Right on, thank you! :grin::metal:

Water test went well. The external loop syphon is built and installed. I need the move that inlet pipe in the back so the grow bed is straight and fully supported.

The bins in the 2 tents aren’t levelling the way I expected and want, so I have some figuring to do on that. Other than that, I’m pretty happy with how this is looking. I’ll shut off the flower tent inlet, cut the pipe, shorten it and possibly add in one of those 45s from the inlet, glue it up and give it until tomorrow afternoon to dry. Then it’s defol and let’r rip!
