Hey Overgrow Family!
I’m incredibly excited and a little nervous to share an update on my medicinal cannabis cultivation journey from Brazil. It’s a path paved with passion, driven by the need for accessible medicine, and often challenged by economic realities – a story many of you, I’m sure, can relate to.
These seven beautiful ladies are currently 1.5 months into their vegetative stage, thriving under a mixed lighting setup. They enjoy 6 hours of direct sunlight outdoors and then receive supplemental lighting from 25W LED lamps to maintain their vegetative growth. I’m also following a mineral feeding regimen that I’ll detail below (I’ll attach the nutrient formula printout!). I’m running three AK-47s, three 24Ks, and one Brain Cake. These genetics were sourced from a local Brazilian site, “Dentista Seeds.” While I don’t have much information on their breeding background, they were the most financially viable option for a student like myself, costing just R$100 (around $3.63 USD) for a pack of three seeds. It’s a testament to how determined we are to cultivate our own medicine, even when faced with limited choices and resources.
Now, let’s talk about the unique look of my girls. You might notice a white powdery residue on their leaves. In an emergency, due to a spider mite outbreak and the unavailability of neem oil during a local holiday, I had to resort to a one-time application of Deltamethrin. I know it’s not ideal, and trust me, it was a last resort! However, my plan is to veg these plants for another 1.5 months. During this extended vegetative period, all these affected leaves will be renewed and replaced by fresh, clean growth. There will be no further applications of Deltamethrin. I am committed to organic pest control moving forward.
One of the aspects I’m most proud of, born out of necessity and a desire to be resourceful, are my DIY fabric pots! As a student, every penny counts. Instead of buying expensive pots, I purchased just 1 meter of white felt and a roll of nylon thread for a grand total of R$20 (approximately $3.63 USD). With my own hands, I sewed these seven fabric pots, each with an approximate 7-liter capacity. They’re filled with 100% coco coir, providing an excellent, aerated medium for these plants to flourish. It’s amazing what you can achieve with a little ingenuity and a lot of dedication!
I’m employing Low Stress Training (LST) to encourage an even canopy and maximize light distribution, which you can see in the attached photos. This technique has been instrumental in shaping these plants and promoting multiple budding sites.
This journey is more than just growing plants; it’s about reclaiming our health, challenging outdated paradigms, and building a community around shared knowledge and resilience. It’s about providing safe, effective medicine for ourselves and, hopefully, inspiring others to do the same.
I’m eager to hear your thoughts, advice, and stories. Let’s keep pushing for a world where medicinal cannabis is accessible and stigma-free!
Solidarity from Brazil!
Jaspion.
