My Brazilian Medicinal Journey: Passion, Purpose, and DIY Grow! (1.5 Months Veg Update)

Hey Overgrow Family!

I’m incredibly excited and a little nervous to share an update on my medicinal cannabis cultivation journey from Brazil. It’s a path paved with passion, driven by the need for accessible medicine, and often challenged by economic realities – a story many of you, I’m sure, can relate to.

These seven beautiful ladies are currently 1.5 months into their vegetative stage, thriving under a mixed lighting setup. They enjoy 6 hours of direct sunlight outdoors and then receive supplemental lighting from 25W LED lamps to maintain their vegetative growth. I’m also following a mineral feeding regimen that I’ll detail below (I’ll attach the nutrient formula printout!). I’m running three AK-47s, three 24Ks, and one Brain Cake. These genetics were sourced from a local Brazilian site, “Dentista Seeds.” While I don’t have much information on their breeding background, they were the most financially viable option for a student like myself, costing just R$100 (around $3.63 USD) for a pack of three seeds. It’s a testament to how determined we are to cultivate our own medicine, even when faced with limited choices and resources.

Now, let’s talk about the unique look of my girls. You might notice a white powdery residue on their leaves. In an emergency, due to a spider mite outbreak and the unavailability of neem oil during a local holiday, I had to resort to a one-time application of Deltamethrin. I know it’s not ideal, and trust me, it was a last resort! However, my plan is to veg these plants for another 1.5 months. During this extended vegetative period, all these affected leaves will be renewed and replaced by fresh, clean growth. There will be no further applications of Deltamethrin. I am committed to organic pest control moving forward.

One of the aspects I’m most proud of, born out of necessity and a desire to be resourceful, are my DIY fabric pots! As a student, every penny counts. Instead of buying expensive pots, I purchased just 1 meter of white felt and a roll of nylon thread for a grand total of R$20 (approximately $3.63 USD). With my own hands, I sewed these seven fabric pots, each with an approximate 7-liter capacity. They’re filled with 100% coco coir, providing an excellent, aerated medium for these plants to flourish. It’s amazing what you can achieve with a little ingenuity and a lot of dedication!

I’m employing Low Stress Training (LST) to encourage an even canopy and maximize light distribution, which you can see in the attached photos. This technique has been instrumental in shaping these plants and promoting multiple budding sites.

This journey is more than just growing plants; it’s about reclaiming our health, challenging outdated paradigms, and building a community around shared knowledge and resilience. It’s about providing safe, effective medicine for ourselves and, hopefully, inspiring others to do the same.

I’m eager to hear your thoughts, advice, and stories. Let’s keep pushing for a world where medicinal cannabis is accessible and stigma-free!

Solidarity from Brazil!

Jaspion.

Hey TricHolmes,

Thank you so much for the incredibly warm welcome to OG! I’m pretty new here, and your kind words truly mean a lot, especially considering the context of what we do in Brazil.

It’s fantastic that you noticed the care I put into my “homeworks” and getting everything just right. For me, these aren’t just plants; they represent my fight for health and justice. In Brazil, the reality of cannabis is still very harsh. We live under a strict prohibition that has devastating consequences. Sadly, our prisons are filled with countless victims of this drug war, a disproportionate number of whom are young, black, and poor, directly reflecting the systemic racism embedded in our society.

This is why my situation is quite unique: I was only able to get the right to cultivate and prepare my own medicine through a court order. It’s a hard-won judicial authorization that allows me to access the treatment I need, and it’s a constant reminder of the immense struggles many still face.

Despite the challenges, I want you to know that there are so many passionate cultivators like me in Brazil who are fighting every single day for this plant, for freedom, and for access to medicine. We may be living under different circumstances, but we are all united by a common goal. We form a large, resilient family, supporting each other and striving for a better future where cannabis is seen for its true potential, not as a crime.

Thank you again for your amazing receptivity and for making me feel part of this global community. It gives me hope!

Cheers,
Jaspion

I live in the other part of the world but with similar conditions on laws and the pressure of society growing from ignorance and preconceptions , I totally understand your conditions and respect your passion and struggle to gain your basic rights.

I support you with all my heart and always here to help for whatever I can.

Keep up the great work brother.
Much love to Brazil :green_heart::wave:

Update – Flip to Flower (03 July 2025)

Hey everyone!

Just a quick update on my garden — I flipped to 12/12 yesterday (03 July 2025). All the girls are looking strong and healthy, and I’m excited to see how they stretch and start stacking in the next few weeks.

I’ll attach some photos below so you can check their progress before the flip. Feel free to drop any feedback or just say hi. Always open to tips and good vibes!

Let’s bloom!

Hey OG family,
just wanted to drop a quick update on my little balcony grow. The ladies are stacking up nicely under the sun, really starting to fatten those colas. I’ve been keeping them in fabric pots with coco and hydroton mix, feeding them minerals, and they seem to love it.

The canopy is filling out well and I’ve been doing some LST to open them up – lots of light penetration and airflow now. Buds are getting frostier each day and a few are even showing some color.

Really happy with how they’re turning out considering the limited space. Smell is already coming in strong, can’t wait to see how they finish over the next few weeks.

Here are some pics from today

Stay safe & keep growing :herb::fire:
