nice! You tried hittin’ that yet?
No I hit some off the 220-160 micron and it was pretty bubbly, but still had some moisture in it.
So whats this beer freezer your talking about im pretty close on spending the bank on a freeze dryer to keep up with the times cheers
But man that product looks un touchable very well done impressed the colour says it all i get that from the trim bin but its a small amount
you just need a regular freezer and a couple of days to dry it out. If you do it right, you can freeze dry it as fast or faster in the freezer than on the shelf.
Hey @JoeCrowe and @ReikoX, I am picking up a set of bubble bags tomorrow! First bubble hash run. Almost did one a few years ago with a bunch of crappy neglected outdoor, but ended up just dry sifting it. The quality was very poor. Garbage in + garbage technique+ garbage equipment + garbage operator = garbage out.
But I am hoping to do better this time. Reading a bunch of the hash threads, maybe watch some video’s tonight. I am psyched!
On to my actual questions…
Do you prefer the bags with solid sides and mesh bottom? Or the full mesh bags? Why?
What rosin press would you start with?
I am not looking to break the bank, and I probably wouldn’t even be able to take advantage of the improvement at the margins that a really good press would provide, but I also want something that I won’t immediately outgrow and will continue to serve me well as I gain experience and proficiency. Basically looking for the peak of the price/performance curve. What would you suggest?
I go with cup shaped screen bags. I’m not sure full mesh would make a difference! I just used buddy’s 10 ton rosin press heh heh squished at 65C or so. It looked like a DIY one uncaged plates attached to the ram. 25 micron screens. Not my specialty…yet but making freeze dried hash is!
I prefer the ones that cost $40.
If anything they gave me too many bags. I just need the 220 160 45 25 and I’m good to go.
The full mesh bags are less likely to jam up. Waiting for the water to drain out of the 25 micron bag is so tedious I usually don’t even do it. A mesh bag would correct that.
Don’t know anything about presses.
All the best
I use the actual Bubble Bag brand, they are solid on the sides and mesh at the bottom. All the hash ends up in the bottom, so I see no point in the solid mesh bags.
I use a DIY one, but the Dab Press seems like a good bang for the buck. I think they are around $400 USD for a six ton press. I’ve been eyeballing the top of the line low temp plates with the BVA hand pump. Those run about $2,000 USD for the 20 ton press.
I found the cheap bags are not as reliable. Particularly the Vivoson ones. The mesh stretched out after a few runs and wasn’t working as well.
Here is my tip. Take that slow draining bag and quickly lift it 6-8 inches then stop suddenly. This will lift the hash of the bottom of the bag and let the water drain quicker. Do this a couple times and the bag will be empty in no time.
Great information in here.
Remember to keep the water as cold as possible waiting for the 25 micron bag that to drain. Warming water causes it to clog up a lot easier I found.
Ive got the viparspectras and they do a good job. I inspect the seams before each go and so far so good.
I also beat the crap out of them. I’ve seen the nylon sides alligator on other cheap ones which is quite disgusting but mine are still grand.
The truth is I get tired at the end of a bubble run and collecting that final bit of 25 just doesn’t win the cost benefit analysis
Full mesh bags - I might have thought of THAT one a few runs and a few sets of arms ago…
Thanks!
I could see having a full mesh 45u as well - between 45 & 25 I watched an entire Frenchy Cannoli video last time!
As far as I know, the difference between the full mesh and partial mesh is that the partial mesh is better for dry ice hash as the bags take more of a beating in that process and the partial mesh are more durable.
I believe the full mesh is better for ice water hash because it potentially can drain faster.
Could be wrong about all of that but I believe that is what I heard once.
Frechy states that if one is going to make hash the plant has to be very, very, very ripe and EACH single trichome has to be 80% amber not taking into the consideration of the whole bud with very ripe plant the heasd of the trichome come off very easy and that’s what you want for hash not the body of the trichome so to speak, which you will get with a biger mocron
Frenchy isn’t even using fresh green buds, what a maniac!!! Booooo!
I think I have to make another batch of hash today… Got to clear out the freezer for more fresh hash batches! I’m going to have to start stashing my hash in containers in the freezer. Right now they are in flaps like the meat breath one there. All 90μm.
lol I’m awaiting the day everyone is manufacturing freeze dried live hash. It’ll be like a giant world wide hash competition… the LP’s won’t know what hit 'em. @ReikoX really showcased the method, excellent job! I should start poking around again… what’s the next step?
Gotchyah the next step is cold curing it aka putting it in the fridge in a sealed container for a month.
I bought a few silicone dab containers, the big ones. I age my hash in them because it works. It has a natural seal and it doesn’t stick.
Aged hash is the best
Already on it! I have 6 x 1/8 ounce containers aging now. If you had a press, I would suggest maybe some mechanically separated THCA or some Jar Tech.
I still have my 160u and some dry trim hash in the freezer waiting for me to do something with it.
