My Extraction Journey Begins

Hey, Been wanting to go bigger for awhile now, the chance came up so I bought this, about 3 weeks ago ,it took a week to get here(awesome!).

The unit came packed well, form fitting foam

it also came with a starter kit, not seen in pic about ten sheets of parchment paper,a silicone dab container tie dyed, one of the collection tools and two magnets. The users manual, must be ok because i got it working , it actually was bigger then a motherboard manual i just got, that was a pamphlet.

I have made 10 presses I bought 100 micron bags, which I am thinking are to small of mesh, I still see alot of leftover honey in the bags after pressing, think lesson 2 is to try like 120’s next.
Lesson 1 I learned right away was the temp, started around 220F on my indicator was using NL got a dark very gooey almost dry like.
Went down to 190F and i get like a oil, real pale yellow, that so far I personally enjoy better.

the unit itself is nice and also heavy weighs about 45-50 lbs I think. Its frame is thick steel. The bottle jack no leaks yet and i like the round knob on the relief valve. The pump handle is a solid bar of steel. there are separate controls for the top and bottom plate’s heat and a timer, the timer i like, harder to forget.

all tips and suggestions will be appreciated.

The DHP7 weighs 34 pounds, but still looks very robust and sturdy. The suggested retail price is $469US, but I see that Amazon has it for $479 with free shipping. If you don’t mind me asking, what did you pay for it? I’ve been thinking about getting a rosin press, and this one looks pretty nice for the money. Do you love it so far?

paid like $429.xx I think it was 459.99 with a 5% discount At Rightbud, shipping included, if you cant get a 5% discount coupon some one who has bought one can get you one, then they get 5% not sure maybe bonus stuff.
So far yes I love it, I mean I cant go and spend a fortune, and I’m surprised it only weighs 34 pounds, but look at one the bottoms steel channel looks like close to 1/4" the sides are same the top and it sure feels like more then 34 pounds, its all welded.

I looked at the other guys like this, they had some pluses there plus was that they sold parts, there minus was there reviews on amazon. Most negative i read was about the pump leaking, many said right from the get go. I’m sure you can go to like harbor freight and get a bottle jack to replace it, but why?

As I said before i like the timer, I have memory issues, short term…cant forget when i set the timer, the other guys didn’t mention a timer

Weird, because I was also going by what they have on the main page of their website:

But, whatever…

Thanks for your feedback. Yeah, if that jack fails, you can replace it with one from Harbor Freight for pretty cheap. But I hope the warranty will cover it if it happens in the first year. Please keep us posted on your results.

BTW - have you thought about getting the swivel mount? It looks like a great way to make collecting your rosin much easier and cleaner…

yes I did think about the tilt stand, its possible later, I didnt get a pre-press either, but i use the press to pre- press, First i get my bags ready then before turning on the press i use the press to pre-press. then done with that i turn the unit on, it doesnt take long and its up to temp.

I always end up scraping my rosin off of parchment paper, standing with the freezer door open and the parchment paper on the icebox… or it won’t come off the paper. I hate it! Lol. Then you see the pure pressure guys fill up that jar straight off the press, life changing! Now we just need ounces of good bubble hash to smash!

I hate smashing dry flowers… need sticky ones. And would rather smash hash than flower but flower tastes better. I think.

Hey and for a pre-press, I use a garlic smashing thing I found at the grocery store! I just cut little pieces of parchment so it doesn’t stick to it… you might want something bigger though.

Looks like a sweet setup!

I’m building one from scratch over in my thread, and quickly realizing the price premium you pay for some of these kits is totally worth it.

Never thought I’d want a full press until recently when I started pressing my dry sift with a flat iron and bench vise and getting 35-45% returns of nice golden goo. I dont know if that’s good or even comparable to a “real” press, but I enjoyed the product enough to take the dive.

I’m now thinking of making a tumbler for automatic sifting of trim and larf material for easier pressing.

It’s a deep rabbit hole for sure, look forward to seeing your results!

You could do dry ice in a bubble bag and get your dry sift. Then press that… I love smashing hash! Love it!

I saw this lady in Amsterdam that created a little tumbler for hash. She mass produced them… they looked like a rock tumbler.

I’m trying to picture one of those paint shakers at ace hardware doing your dry sift for you. Sweet!

I want to eventually, the bubble hash, I got alot going on right now irl, getting ready for another out of state trip, not much getting done in the home front if anything lol

Grab one of these, arguably one of the most important rosin tools!

Used those but I don’t like how the water starts collecting on it, then the parchment gets wet and tears…

What I do now is clean everything up( like pull the bag/ puck out and any specks) then throw it it the freezer for a minute. Then use something that can roll and go fast. Got to take the bitter with the sweet I guess…
