My first attempt at indoor growing

Well I just typed out a huge report on my phone explaining everything and in the end I was trying to add pictures when somehow it all disappeared so this is my second and much more annoyed attempt at explaining my situation :joy:. So I recently moved from southern California where I’ve grown outdoors all my life to western Washington. I learned all I know about growing from my grandfather who recently has finally hung up his green thumbed gloves. But before doing so he gave me his lifetime collection of seeds. A lot of them wouldn’t even germinate even when using the canna kan. But I finally got 3 sweet island skunk seeds and 1 mars O.G. seed to germinate turns out I got a female from each and 2 sweet island males (that I am currently collecting pollen from so that I can hopefully continue his line) I also took clones from both plants so I can try the seeds again to hopefully get a male mars O.G. and continue that line as well. At the same time I popped about ten seeds from some bud a friend grew that even though 90 percent was seed what smokable bud was there was awesome! So I now have 9 female plants on my balcony

And I am realizing more everyday that these plants will need a few more weeks to finish than I expect to be able to give them due to frost. So I have a 4x4 with a vipar spectra ks5000 that I plan on finishing the two best looking random plants and the two strains from gpa in. As for the rest I’m going to try to bring them as close to the house as possible at night and I’m going to try covering them with tarps at night to hopefully be able to finish them out there. I also have a 2x2 in my bathroom with a xs1500 pro that I plan on using as a veg tent for the 6 clones I took and I’m going to try to run one auto in there also. However I screwed the auto up real bad and have now re adjusted my plan and moved some things around. Originally I put the light waaay to close to my seedling even though my light was only on 5% I then didn’t realize what was happening for about a week and then I raised it but not enough and lost another few days now I’m almost three weeks in and she looks terrible only has one set of puny curled leaves and really isn’t doing much I have since fixed the light and figured out where it should be also I decided that for the first few weeks of a seedlings life and a clones life I’m going to keep them under the led lights I have on my microgreens grow rack and that seems to be doing much better. I tried keeping 3 healthy clones under the tent light and 3 under the microgreens light and the microgreens light is doing better in my opinion so I think I’ll stick to that. I now have a new auto seed that’s been above soil for 3 days today under the microgreens light and looks to be doing quite well I’m going to try to post pictures after I finish typing and posting this so I don’t risk losing it all again when I’m trying to take pics.

Welcome to indoor gardening! Starting any new growing project can be a bit overwhelming, but it’s a great way to learn. Paying attention to basics like sufficient light, good airflow, balanced watering, and quality soil will help any plants thrive. I’ve found that keeping notes on what works and what doesn’t has been really helpful as I experiment. Best of luck as you continue to refine your setup!

Welcome to Overgrow @Shwazy,

I appreciate the level of detail you provided and look forward to the pics of your indoor grow. We thrive on detail and pics! lol

That ViparSpectra XS1500 pro is an excellent choice for a 2x2 tent. The lens technology provides uniform light over the whole spread.

You already know how to grow cannabis so migrating indoors should be a breeze.

Rock on, and ask all kinds of questions as you make this transition.

To be honest I’m really considering just ripping her out.

Okay not sure why the pictures got all mixed up but the first pic in the fabric pot is my new auto at 2 days above soil and the last pic is the tortured plant

Just a little update flowering plants are still outside, I’m supposed to be picking up aac infinity exhaust and a few clips fans in the next week or two and then I will be comfortable with moving the plants into the 4x4. But here is some pics of all the plants

Then here is pics of one plant that seems to stand out amongst the rest sadly it came from some bud a friend grew that got totally seeded and I have no clue what the original strain was or what pollinated it but I have about 4 or 5 plants from those seeds and this guy is bigger frostier and seems to grow quicker than all the rest.

I originally wasnt going to clone any of them because I didn’t know the strain and didn’t expect to much from them but the more I watch her grow the more I love her so I did take a few cuts from her the other day and plan on trying to root then re veg them. This seems like something I may want to keep around.

Also I ended up getting rid of the auto I abused :sob:. But here is the new one on day 8

Then I moved the clones to 1 gallons from there solo cups.

And finally the new cuts I am rooting from the unknown good looking plant!

Just a tip on bringing outdoor plants into your tent.

Once an outdoor pest or fungus gets into your indoor grow space, spider mites for example, it can be a real nightmare to get rid of them.

Consider your resources and protocols for completely sanitizing soil and plants before bringing them indoors.

Trust Me.

Jus sayin,

Any time I’ve brought plants in from outside to inside to finish I’ve brought in spider mites. I had to quit outside growing because of our short northern flower season. Fog,damp cold weather in October brings PM and bud rot problem I can’t overcome outdoors

Well tbh now I’m worried about bringing em in but after caring for these guys for so long I just have to finish them and I’m prettY sure finishing outside is just not going to be an option so I think I’m pretty stuck on bringing them in and finishing em especially when the buds are starting to look so nice.

@pipecarver & @GrouchyOldMan thank you guys for the input but givin the situation what would you recommend doing to the tent after the grow to get it all clean and rea For the next grow that will be :100: percent indoor. I haven’t seen evidence of spider mites yet but they are a definite worry along with septoria. I don’t mind cleaning and disinfecting everything after just kinda wondering how crazy it will be to get rid of anything I might bring in??

When is your first frost times in the area? Just a frost wont kill them, it takes a real freeze.

Just to keep up with the updates here is the clones

Here is the new auto flower and my little growmie! :yum:

Here is the auto I massacred and should have just ripped him up but I didn’t have the heart it decided to make a new top cuz I screwed it up so bad but I’m gunna share it all with u guys good and bad!

And lastly here is the males

that I’m using to get new seeds from my grandfather’s sweet island skunk seeds he gave me before stopping growing so it’s more of a sentimental thing for me than like a crazy good strain same with the mars og I’m growing I just don’t have any males of that one yet so im keeping clones and going to try to pop a male!

I’m in north western Washington predicted first frost dat is 10/12to 10/21 according to google I was thinking about trying to cover them at night and keep them close to the house or possibly even bring them in at night. But we do get random super cold nights so it definitely worries me to leave them out would suck to grow them this far and then have em die off right at the end!

Also they seem to be going way slower than I am used to not sure why but I feel like they probably have 5 to 6 weeks to finish off still

Nice plants ! Ditto on the outdoor plants bringing in spider mites . I did that ONE time , also my first indoor grow . What a freaking shit show that was !

You might be surprised and can possibly finish those flowering plants right where they are . I’d at least try . You have easy access to them , maybe rig something up to keep the rain off in late flower and/or at least shake them ā€œdryā€ if it rains .

The clones you should be able to sanitize and get bug free indoor grow going .

Hey, I’m with you brother… I’ve got a beauty growing outside in a big pot with supersoil, and she’s not going to flower before the New England icy death-fogs come for her.

I’m preparing for battle with the One-n-Done spray, hypochlorous acid, and permethrin as a soil drench. Each of those targets one of my local nightmare foes.

Goog ā€œIntegrated Pest Managementā€ for the theory behind this approach. I’ll fight hard to keep the bads from getting a foothold outdoors, then move her inside after the current harvest.

Anyways, those same tools and others like them are what you should have on hand.

Hey brother thanks again I’ll definitely look into the ā€œintegrated pest management ā€œ I think that’s is totally something I’ll have to look into. I am trying to stay as organic as possible and again I really haven’t seen much of anything with pests other than the odd leafhopper or the two stink beetle things I found plus I did pull a tiny caterpillar off a leaf but otherwise the only real problem I’ve been seeing has been septoria I’ve been fighting with that for probably two months now and it seems to be on most, if not all the plants outside. However the clones seem to shake it pretty quickly inside with different grow medium. And honestly other than making the plants look a bit rough they have done really well against it. This is my first season in Washington and my first experience ever with septoria.

Those basics right there are all one needs to succeed. People make things too complicated and get away from the basics to much.
