I have a Red Angolan that has been put through hell. I finally nursed her to health thinking I would clone her and cull the original. I came to appreciate the vigor of the plant only to discover it has balls
Been wanting to make my own seeds and another plant was put into flower same time (Barney’s Farm Liberty Haze). I’m considering letting nature take over and collect some pollen in process.
I have enough stash on hand to keep me medicated in the meantime.
I’m open to any input, thoughts suggestions, ideas etc.
Not really disappointing. I have been wanting to breed (actually attempted with pollen sourced from others without success) assumed it was my lack of experience. I feel that when things don’t go as planned maybe a higher power (to use a political correct term for whatever you choose to believe put everything in motion) has other plans for you. I guess what I’m suggesting is to follow the plan laid before me rather than the obstacles I chose to see.
After reading about both the strains I think you should let them breed and make seeds …maybe the cross could turn out to be really good.
Red Angolan has that basil thing…I love basil…there is an Indian landrace which has a holy basil phenotype and I’m on the lookout for her.
Happy breeding and growing &
Keep in mind that the seeds from herms will have a higher chance of herming than the mother. Not that it’s bad necessarily. I keep and grow seeds from herms if I liked the mom.
Yeah, that’s not intersex at all, that’s a full on dude.
As far as advice to the op, if you do cross them expect a hard nutrient glut after pollination. Like everything else that propagates, they’re going to need some heavy nutes for 2 weeks or so after pollination or else they will cannibalize themselves for the needed nutrition.
Thanks to all for your comments and support. Just want to clarify this is not a herm but a plant from a reg seed. I am going to let nature do its thing consequences be damned.
After giving it some thought, I decided to turn my 4 x 4 auto/ veg tent into a play pen. Moved the male Angolan red and 2 females (liberty haze and lambs bread).
Sure looks like it to me, and there’s a male flower right below it camping out on the bud… I can’t entirely confirm without testing, but I’d say I’m 99% sure that’s pollen.
Yup he’s blowing his load all over the place lol.
This is good, you will be happy you did it.
Nothing like the satisfaction of making
Your own beans.
Good luck and happy gardens
A bit off topic- found this young lady under a liberty haze plant in my flower tent. Must of took a while to germ. Not sure what strain but will transplant and see what happens.
Transplanted with seedling nutes (germinated with coco canna flower nutes). Placed under weak 4 ft led strip. Will probably stay here a couple weeks till room in veg tent.
Plant seems to acclimating. Upon reflection my best guess is this is a BOG sour grape. I had several that never germinated. When beans don’t pop, I like to dig them up to see if I can learn anything. Well several seeds didn’t pop nor were found. Hope I’m right.
