You obviously don’t want to use anything that creates a sterile environment while running beneficial bacteria in a rdwc system. Beneficial bacteria in hydroponics doesn’t multiply like they do in soil but they do thrive well and will keep root rot at bay.
Water temperature is massively important while running a rdwc system so I’m my opinion a chiller is needed 100% to keep the solution at 18 - 20c.
Personally I run a chiller and Dutch pro keep it clean so my system is sterile.
Running a large air pump so there is plenty of oxygen in the water is a must also.
