New Here – Looking for Guidance to Get Started

Hi everyone,

I am new to the Overgrow community and just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I have recently taken an interest in growing and have been reading up a lot but I am still very much a beginner. I came across this forum and it looks like a great place with knowledgeable people and tons of helpful discussions.

That said, I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and would really appreciate any advice or pointers on where to start, whether it is recommended beginner threads, grow journals or trusted guides you think I should check out first.

Looking forward to learning and hopefully contributing as I grow along the way. Thanks in advance for any support.

Cheers,
Moe

Welcome @moe313
Nice introduction

Couple questions for you.
Indoor or outdoor?
Smoking preference for taste and effects

Answering questions like these help people with their advice on how to proceed with your new hobby( obsession :rofl:)

That’s how you know you have our disease. :joy:

Seriously though, I sympathize & felt the same about 8 years ago & it took a few to start feeling confident.

It’s like so many things & practice & mistakes over time will evolve you into a self sufficient grower.

It’s great that you’re asking too - OG is overwhelmingly helpful. 20 years ago Cannabis information was still minimal & rare but now it’s a tsunami of marketing & nonsense.

Just browse topics, lurk, ask any question & you’ll be amazed at how satisfying your own well cultivated weed is.

Aloha

Welcome aboard @moe313 !

There is a ton to learn. The best piece of advice I have for you is the KISS method. Keep it simple stoner.

Soil water and light go a long way. You can make it as complicated as you want from there.

Good luck.

Hey @moe313, start here Basic Growing topics

It should be a good starting point here.

As far as growing, just plant a seed and go from there. Yes, you should have all the necesaary equipment ready to go, but sometimes having the seed started is the best way to foece yourself to nor be lazy about it.

I’d suggest going to grow logs and looking at the beginning of them where people tend to explain their setups and what they’re doing.

Find someone you’d like to emulate and ask them questions. I think you’ll find people are happy to help you get your toes wet.

Cheers.

One thing I learned from my experience is that no amount of reading will help you unlike real growing experience through failures and experiments.

You can read up on the basics of a method and medium you choose. But don’t get hung up on reading everything before you start.

You’ll learn once you start the process. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Plenty of helpful folks on here that will guide you.

Good genetics, good lights & medium, optimum watering & nutrient feeding practices. Nail these and it will take you a long way.

You may not get the best yield on your first try and that’s okay. Your 2nd grow will be hundred fold better if you made some notes and applied your learning. Good luck.

Moe313,

@DamnItsARunt has it correct. You can read lots, but nothing compares to good ole hardcore experience. Screwing shit up and learning from your mistakes.
Also correct…good genetics…good lights and learning what this plant likes will take you far.
Luckily…with the exception of a few most marijuana strains grow pretty easily.
If i had impart something i learned through experience: Dont kill your plants with kindness…more times than not…less is more and always listen to the plants. Once you get to know them, they will tell you what they need.

Drop a bean. It can’t be explained but must be experienced
