New to the growing hobby

Hey all and thanks for having such a great community of people here. Learned a lot so far scrolling through topics and seeing other people methods of growing. New to the hobby and just picked up most of the supplies I need to get started and trying to absorb as much information I can from all sources. So much to learn about this its crazy. Budget is tight so getting piece by piece slowly so far got 4x4 vivosun tent, floraflex 700w, duct fan, humidifer, clip fans, floraseries nutrients, lst clips, 3 gallon and 5 gallon fabric pots along with some ph up and down. Didnt know how expensive this was going to be so quickly lol going to be using miracle grow pro mix for now till i can save up to make my own soil. Would love any tips or tricks you have for a sucessful first grow and was hoping you guys can help point me in the right direction for some cheap but not terrible seeds. Pretty much blew my budget already this month and so close to be able to start a grow myself, so excited! I looked all over the internet for some decent seeds to get some practice on like male seeds, autoflowers and regular female for learning to lst and hst and playing around with breeding once i can get a second tent. Just cant justify/afford spending $5-$10 dollar a seed just to mess something up like nutrients or breaking learning to train. Is there any websites In the U.S i can get cheap seeds to get me started? Thanks and look forward to post my progression on my grows and hear your expert opinions and tips to grt me on the right path. Have a great day everyone and sorry for the long post

I use pro mix and salts. I have used miracle grow, it’s fine.

If you live in a city you can access their water report to get an idea of what you’re working with. I’m lucky, I can get away with not having to pH. You too might be lucky.

It sounds like you’ve got most of your gear sorted so you’re on the right track.

I’d take a deep dive into learning about ppfd and maybe get a meter/photone to really dial in your light.

You’re in the right place.

Best of luck.

Glad to hear miracle grow wont be an issue till i can get more advanced with soil and thats a good idea to get a water report, thanks. I did a little reading on the ppfd charts and numbers for growing without co2 but was only able to download the photon app for now and where im at with my light in my tent is 400 in the center. Do you think that is to much for seedlings/early veg?

Yes that should be fine. Just be sure you’re using the correct LED photone setting and you’re using a diffuser.

I don’t even check ppfd anymore. I took baseline readings and now just go by distance from the light.

400 is around where I start.

Sorry man I would’ve suggested going with an Amazon 4x2 tent with budget friendly LED instead of giant 700w especially being new grower then making sure to use quality soil genetics and containers…my advice to newbies is learn the craft by keeping it simple. Don’t try to replicate what you see on social media or advanced techniques with expensive equipment and start small while building up knowledge and experience. Not a big fan of miracle gro when you can spend 30 bucks on Fox farm soil that is geared toward cannabis growers

@Micktasty so I use the nutrient line CX horticulture. I like them so far. I’ve already went through a batch of their nutrients and I have nothing negative to say. On top of that if you go to the website you can get a sample kit sent to you for free and it is a nice huge kit all you have to do is pay for shipping which is around $20 but well worth it. Check it out, Google CX horticulture and go to the website and look at the sample kits. This is the best I have found yet

They send you all of those blue bottles and a few extra goodies. And where can you beat that at LOL

I wanted to start smaller myself but asked around reddit and kept getting told ill beat myself up later for not going bigger lol. I do plan on getting another tent like a 2x2 when i get the money cause i want to get into breeding a little bit also and thanks for the suggestion im going to make the switch to the foxfarm once i run out of my current miracle grow supply

I have a few extra stamps and a bunch of bag seed that would make great practice seeds, I always save those to give to my friends that wanna start growing so they have something to practice on that won’t hurt to mess up on lol. Shoot me a DM when you can too and I can send some your way!

Glad your package landed safely. Which did you decide to throw down? Or both?

Keep me updated in the R&R thread as you progress. I’d like to see how they do for you.
