Agreed. I was looking around for something but was having no luck at the moment lol.
I guess I should have just printed them as I saw the seeds pop… I saw 1 tail and 2 cracked about 4 hours ago (18’ish hours after starting them)

Those are pretty cool! I would paint the borders and letters I think. Any color would be cool and stand out against the black but gold was the first that came to mind.
Love this thread! Killer prints too, I also agree with a color to contrast with the black!
Hey thanks bud. I will be tweaking my settings on the next few prints trying to fine tune things a bit @Pluckyevil brought home a paint pen and hit this one with it real quick as a test.
Definitely gets it popping heh.
@bassman5420 Yes nice new design on the tent spreaders. Count me in for 2 sets when you do another run. I can chip in cost wise to of course. Your plants are doing fine, as you said just some more adjustments with environment and you’ll be dialed in. Nice work.
Ya I am slowly getting things dialed more and more in different tents. Sometimes my hands get tied and I just have to roll with it sadly.
Not gonna lie… I LOVE these spreaders lol. Branches in the 2x4 tent are getting a bit wobbly, so I may put another trellis in just for support and use the new spreader trellis supports as well.
I am waiting for an order of 3D filament to show up at the moment, but that would give me time to work on designs. I will have to get with you all and figure out what size wall/trellis supports you guys are planning on using so I can design them custom to fit best. My universal idea was not going to work out how I wanted, so I will just make them to fit whatever will be used. Only 1 model of simple weaker spreaders available out there, so I will try to see what everyone would be happy with to get them.
I will be trying to tweak the printer settings to get the top layer to look a little better. It is not horrible at all, but if other people are going to get their hands on these, I would like them to look 10% better on top if possible heh. Personally I don’t mind seeing the printing marks on top since it don’t mess with structural integrity or anything and is sorta cool to take a peak at heh.
Did some defoliation on the 3x3. Leaned in and cracked a couple random pics that I could without blowing my back out too much lol.
2x4 too thick for its own good and in need of some spreaders and support since some branches are leaning and twisting. I had been battling thrips and had given the plant the last spraying a week ago (I think?) but I had a massive fungus gnat explosion out of nowhere the other day. Ended up putting in some sticky traps and doing a little drench of neem, agsil, gypsum and a little dish soap to knock back the gnats/larva. If its not 1 thing its 5 others…
Everything is falling, flopping, tied and strapped on what I could easily do.
Sounds like some challenges bud, but the flowers look really nice in spite of your troubles. Keep on cranking! Hope you finish strong
Great update @bassman5420 ! Looks super dank in there, I can almost smell it
That Afgoo looks delicious
Looks pretty damn good! Do the border on one too and thank me later!
@Slick1 Not bad for first attempt messing with it.
Nice. Quick question, since I’m thinking about getting a 3d printer myself… about how much filament did that use? Just curious if it’s cheaper, about the same price, or wildly more expensive than buying blank stakes on Amazon - and in general, whether it’s cheaper to make little widgets with the printer than buying them. Is it mostly about whether or not it’s common, or has to be custom-made? The stakes are about 6 cents each on Amazon…
For the size and print settings I used, that planter stake was 13-14 cents in filament based on the price I paid for my filament. It could be slimmed down here and there to save on filament, but it was just a random late night test so I was not worried about it really. I am sure a blank one could be done with much less filament, I only made it the size I did so the printer would not struggle with the smaller lettering.
This was made custom from scratch, their might be a downloadable plan for a slimmer blank generic one but I like designing things from the ground up anyways heh. I have made all sorts of useable grow items with mine. I got tired of my small genesis clip fans pushing on the tent and not pointing where I wanted, so I made a few prints of a tent pole mount that fit the body of the fan and used all the existing mounting hardware. That is what all my small fans are using in every tent. A few changes I would make when I redo the design, but its in use 24/7 as it heh. I make tent spreaders, tent spreader wall/trellis supports, tent pole fan mounts, plant training clips, various hooks and clips to attach to roof poles to help get cords out of the way, mini shelfs to attach to the tent poles, etc. In the middle of designing some mounts for a security camera I have to mount up in the tent, printed flip washers because I was out and don’t want to buy anymore, I could keep going on and on heh. I can 3d design and make anything, now I am diving into tweaking the printer settings to get better prints, save filament, get a smoother top layer etc.
Ok, cool. Looks like those are about the same size as the ones on Amazon, so it’s not gonna save any money on the common stuff; you’re right though, lots of custom stuff that’s worth making. Anything custom-made for tent growing is gonna be at least double the price it should be anyway. Still, considering economics of scale, twice the price isn’t all that bad for custom work that can be done at midnight.
@Cormoran I did just a small change on one I have not printed yet that has more lettering and got it to 11 cent. So just some design and thickness tweaks and you can get the time and material down a bit. That is also based on a 24.99$ roll of filament. There is a lot in the 20$ range and sales on some cheaper etc, but all filament is not created equally sadly. So lots of ways I could technically slim down the $ per on just these alone.
See? Looks good!
Branches are flopping a bit, so I am in the middle of throwing a 3rd layer of trellis in here with my new tent spreader wall/trellis supports. Here are a few pictures before it gets to cluttered with more of my zip ties heh. Going to get a net stretched right on there and start lowering it down.
I may try running some extra lines in between the trellis squares in the future. Just tie them off to the support poles and weave them under over to the other end. I really hate these giant trellis squares most of the time lol.
Go for four trellis layers! Turn it up to eleven!! Haha
