That would be Silfra in Iceland! You can dive between the continental tectonic plates! Its one of like 2 coldwater dives I want to do. The other being the kelp forests in the pacific northwest. Otherwise, I am NOT a fan of coldwater diving (some awesome wrecks in the Great Lakes I will never see, oh well, there’s so many more in warmer waters I wont see em all anyway)

And the baitball pic is cool. I had the privilege of swimming thru one under a moored ferry in Cozumel. Fish EVERYWHERE. I mean you are in a bubble of fish… Can’t see anything BUT fish…

did you take this pic dude?

Sure did! In the middle of the ball! was INSANE! In 500+ dives, only seen one baitball…

For context. From a distance, the ball of bait fish appears to be about 80ft x 80ft x 50ft high. Pretty much all the shade area under the ferry. Large moored boats act as fish aggregation devices, and plenty of fish take refuge under them. To find a baitball under one was exceptionally rare. They are usually in much deeper waters.

that’s incredible. Bait balls are crazy. spaced out like magnetic forces.must have been really cool seeing that. Most I have done was coral reef swimming in Mexico.

The cool part was they surround you, but just barely out of reach. So you can move around, and the shape of the fish around you changes with you. Its not like they all swim away, they just keep like a 3-4’ distance from you. And they swim in every direction, then in unison, then randomly again, its like a constantly evolving work of art really. Wish they were more commonly found in shallower waters…

Hey, you “peeked inside the circus tent” at least  A favorite saying of mine for non-divers is:

“Going to the ocean to watch the waves roll in is nice, but its kind of like going to the circus and just looking at the circus tent from the outside. One never knows the wonders it holds within”…
