It was very different eh? Now you just take 20 pics in one burst and one is bound to be good. Not worrying about wasting film changed everything.

I have a mixed opinion about this.

While yes I do love that digital image capture allows us to shoot non stop without worrying about costs… the costs I found when working in the media was that it had people lean to quantity over quality.

of you shoot 100 images you’re bound to have at least 1 solid one. If you honed your skills you end up with a higher number of good shots to bad ones.

I remember Mrs F and my Ex in school together spending so much coin in their first year with the B&W labs… then the digital camera year and everyone in their program shot indiscriminately but with skills honed in “ever shot costs me money so I really think about it.”.

My complaint is those that didn’t have the cost pressure seem to focus on winging it as the GUI nature of digital imagery lends to a lapse of skill honing.

Granted in the college example I always found it brutal that Mrs F’s and her peers work and grades were always posted in the walls in the halls of their dept.

That’ level of public shame/praise really honed you at getting good fast.

Yeah I hear you. This applies to many things but now every idiot with a phone is a photographer.

And usually you took two pictures of the same thing because you knew at least one of them was going to suck, lol.

Frustratingly accurate.

And the number of “Directors of Photography” I’ve met that are literally bros with trust funds spent on “the best gear” who’s reels are not worth the time to look at more than 30 seconds.

And in group photos 17 so we could cut/paste the best face from each image onto the best overall group photo!

My, how times have changed.

At audio I remember that you wouldn’t get a gig unless you had the best gear. The real pros would come in with a list of 50k worth of gear they wanted and be done with it. No ego, no bullshit, they were pros. But we also got a lot of bros too.
