I know that there’s a lot of controversy about Dr. Bruce Bugbee, but he isn’t the point of this post. No, this about the giant fucking slide rule on his wall. I so love seeing that thing! Note that it’s not as if I ever learned to use most of the functions on one. I knew how to do a few basic functions, but since I wasn’t really into math or science, there was no need for me to learn more.
I’ll bet there are plenty of folks here who never used one, or possibly even held one, even those with a math/science background.
I got a few lessons in my early teens, some how someone took an abacus and mated it with a wooden t square fitted with a sliding bullseye, and the offspring got tattooed in numerological hyroglyphics of 1000 dead mathematical civilizations. It made math harder, thereby building character uphill both ways for sure.
And bugbee kinda does that too
