Hey OG hope everyone is having a good day first off! Im wondering if anyone has come across any blueberry work that has an accurate blueberry nose and taste but without the sickly candy like sweetness?
From my experience, DJ’s recent work had been plagued by that musty basement funk smell that is nothing like the old blueberry, but admittedly I haven’t run any of his stuff for a few years.
I did run Matt Riots Blueberry IX last year and found one pheno that was like…a creamy sweet dessert blueberry profile that I didn’t personally care for. Found another pheno that was more sharp blueberry syrup/jam profile but is still very sweet. Kept a clone of that one because it was closer to what I’m looking for but still not “it”.
Back in around 2001/02 I scored a couple bags of something that I was told was called “Blueberry Skunk” and it smelled and tasted EXACTLY like fresh blueberries. The nose had a touch of skunkiness but just barely and the taste was just strait blueberry with very little to no sweetness. I remember the buds were light green but no colors aside from green.
I don’t necessarily presume that there was ever a strain called “Blueberry Skunk” although maybe there was? I’m more inclined to believe whoever this came from popped some kind of blueberry work and just called his or her’s keeper “Blueberry Skunk”.
So yeah has anyone found any blueberry work that has that dead on fresh blueberry note without the sweetness? I could care less about a pretty fade or color as long as I could recapture something like those bag I smoked so long ago.
Check out @Blue_Star_Seed_Co he’s the king of blueberry around here… You do realize blueberry is a sweet fruit correct? Haha correct me if I’m wrong but you don’t like the kind of artificial candy terp?
Well yes I get that, but for me when I eat fresh blueberries it doesn’t have that overpowering sweetness, for my palate anyway. Compared to something like cherries or an orange, which is much sweeter.
It’s hard when describing things like smells and tastes because it can be so subjective but I just find that a lot of modern blueberry stuff has a sweet (probably what a lot of people describe as candy) edge to it that is not what I’m looking for. Hope that helps.

I don’t blame you, i rather have a pheno with a earthy blueberry taste and potency rather than it being a tasty mid. That’s my issue with fruity strains. They look great, smell great but lack potency.Honestly best off looking into crosses rather then a pure blueberry.
