OGBR / Germination Can Development

Boa noite galera!!!

Obrigado.

Segue abaixo algumas imagens do produto:

Good evening guys!

I’m designing a seed germination box for us in the Brazilian community, but I believe that the participation of foreigners would also be very welcome.

There are some similar options on the market, but at impractical prices, especially for us here in Brazil.

I’m making this 3D model using Cannakan as a visual reference, as well as this other 3D design developed by Darth_RevRen in the thingiverse 3D file library.

I’ve been trying to think of some improvements here, as well as simplifications of designs for 3D printing. At this stage of development, any and all perspectives are very valuable. Any tips and/or recommendations are very welcome. Especially since I don’t have either the Cannakan version or the other one here to help develop something simple, practical, and accessible to everyone in the community.

If anyone has one of these products or a similar one and can offer ideas about their strengths and weaknesses, we can work together to develop something very effective.

The goal of developing this product is to help beginners who have difficulty germinating seeds, as well as those who cannot afford to purchase them. This way, I can hold frequent giveaways and make the product available for free in STL format for those who already have a 3D printer.

I’m also taking this opportunity to ask for name suggestions for this magical little box of joy! Thank you.

marcha!!!

Eu tb sou fã do canal dele.

Poderia disponibilizar pra quem quiser comprar tb!!

Very cool idea! I was actually considering working on a product similar to CannaKan myself. The main thing that held me back was the fact that 3D printing naturally creates layer lines, which are very difficult to keep sterile. These lines can trap bacteria—probably not an issue for the first few seed germinations, but after heavy use they could start causing problems.

One possible solution would be to coat all internal surfaces that come into contact with moisture and seeds in a food-grade epoxy. This would seal the layer lines, making the unit easier to clean and helping maintain a sterile environment over long-term use.

I’ll be following along and would love to test anything if needed. I been running a small print farm for the past 5 years so if you need anybody to bounce ideas off of or test print hit me up. :v:

Excellent idea brother, I was thinking it was a seed box and not a germinator, I’ve never seen anything like it, but it seems like a great idea. And the intention to distribute them for free makes it even better. Much generosity on your part to the OGers.

It could also be used as a seed storage! Instead of the water mix at the bottom, one could put lots of silica gel instead making the container a dry and safe place to store seeds.

I still need to learn more on the CAD design in oder to add threads on the lid making this container safer in case someone drops it. This first inicial design only has slots to close the container, I dont think its 100% safe in case it falls, it might open and you will loose the seeds or have them mix up, that would be a nightmare.

I am studying a little everyday here in order to learn how to make simple plastic threads to make the lid safer. Maybe an oring would also make it even better.

However I am not having much free time from work to dedicate to this fully. But I’m sure people will tune in here with awesome improvement ideas for the next version.

As @Neoangelo147 mentioned the layer lines could really be an issue with bacteria if one is not carefull and keep the container absolutely clean after using it.

Im sure the can would be safe from bacteria in the long term if one properly washes it and keep it soaked in bleach a couple days after using it. However depending on the height of the print and layer lines bacteria could really like living there if it isnt cleaned thoroughly!

We also could think of coating critical parts with epoxy in order to reduce the chances of bacteria settling between the layer lines.

Another thing that just came to my mind is reusing some other industrialized container that is made of plastic that isnt printed.

Maybe we could find some sort of plastic container that houses candies, something like hair styling or moisturizers alike with a similar diameter. Finding a similar cheap industrialized plastic container would possibly make this project even better, as we would only have to print the two inner parts.

@bluntzera

I was rethinking this and what if you designed a mould for the bottom and inside parts and made them out of silicon?

If you use food grade silicon it’s easy to clean and resistant to bacterial growth.

Once you get the mould printed you can probably make a bunch pretty quickly.

Never thought of that to be honest. Im not to sure but i think silicon here is very expensive. I have to investigate this scenario, but it does seem like a good idea!

Never did moulds to pour silicon before. How safe is it to use? Is it food grade material or only certain types?

@Neoangelo147 just received these packs from Soma, and did a quick measuring with the ruller and these aluminum cans are exactly 7cm in diameter, just like the design I started.

Something like that would make it even better for futire proofing the design.

I will rethink the entire thing in order to see if I could only print the inner parts for this can too.

Have you think in pill boxes?

Thereare this and straight ones also.

If your concern is bacteria/fungus in layers, these are inyected plastic.

Also,I think that of you use cetone (acetona) (that for clean women nails) that you can “polish” the printed layers.

This is a very cheap and effective idea too!!
