@G-paS Thanks for sticking this one out! Some testing would be nice for everyone to see what is what.

@Loggershands Nice! Let me know what you think. Humic for building, fulvic for foliar. Keep me posted!

I just stumbled in here, and I’ve gotta say I am amped to see an honest to god science experiment kicking off here!
I really dig the variable controls and the thought that’s gone into your tests.
I’m gonna tag along if you don’t mind, and I’ll add a little spirit to your science:
I bless this grow with the headiest of Heady Bear vibes! :bear::v:

Well I know it’s been a while so I thought I would fill everyone in. I purchased a soil test last week to try my hand at this whole process. Please excuse my ignorance in the area, this is a first for me.

I did run into a bit of a hold up strictly on my end.
When purchasing a soil test from Logan, they send you a few different pdf files.

  1. Printable label for shipping you’re sample/s
(No picture included for security reasons)
  2. Worksheet to fill out
  3. Soil sample instructions
  4. Example of a filled out worksheet.

Just to clear up any issues, I want to kind of walk through these so there is no confusion for us first timers. This past week, I have been expecting some kind of package from the lab to submit my samples. I thought maybe they sent out specific items they wanted you to use or sample bags for submitting. I am here to tell you, you don’t get anything sent to you. You must use you’re own bags :joy:, and send out you’re sample with the completed worksheet, accompanied by the shipping label they email you.

I first read all pdf files, and I was stuck on the worksheet. I thought that I could have 6 different pages with 5 results per page. This seemed a bit ridiculous for the price so I emailed Logan labs and they responded with correct instructions for my situation.

IF you are ONLY submitting one sample, this is how the worksheet should be filled out. My sample name is “Test #1”, yours will be what ever you choose it to be.

I’m not gonna lie, it sounds pretty straight forward, but the worksheet they send you should possibly be more personalized per number of tests you purchased. I totally thought I was gonna get 6 different batches total I could test, with 5 possible variations to each mix… I thought to myself, how do these people make any money offering that much testing for the price… With a bit of further guidance I was able to make sense of what seemed to be a easy thing…

Construction zone is still under way, I had to step back and tend to another project that was over due. I will try to give another update this weekend or next with completed progress! Happy growing all! :man_health_worker::green_heart::seedling:

PS- More tests will be done, this was just to get my foot wet so to speak. I will discuss my mix and amendments used for this test when results come back. I want to try and keep things a bit organized if possible.

Hello once again my good people, I have been busy with a few projects so I figured I would give a little update!

To start, I received my soil sample results. Here is a break down of the first test. I did not want to use a few things but I thought I would throw it all in and find out for sure what the results were. I did not go for a saturated paste test, which I may re evaluate.

Base mix

  1. Pro-Mix. 50%
  2. Pumice. 25%
  3. Compost/Fungal Compost/WC. 25%
(Oly Mountain Compost, Fungal Compost from KIS, and WC from BAS)

Amendments

  • Alfalfa Meal. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Crustacean Meal. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Fish Bone Meal. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Fish Meal. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Kelp Meal. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Oyster Shell Flour. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Gypsum. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Dolomite Lime. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Bio Char(Activated). 2Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Basalt Brix Blend. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • Neem and Karanaja 50/50. 1Tbl Spn/Gal
  • TM-7. 1 gram/Gal

From the results I have a lot of information to use for the next test. My goal will be to lower my PH to around 6.4, as well as lowering my salt and sulfur levels. Gypsum will be pulled from the mix as well as Dolomite lime.
I will pick another test up for the next sample and return with results asap. :man_health_worker::seedling::green_heart:

This is awesome man. I’ll pop a squat :sunglasses::beers:

I use to use this soil mix when they first became a thing on the cannabis market and mixed it with promix also. It worked perfectly.

I wonder how far companies have come to dial this stuff in.

Thank you for the update and results from the highly anticipated soil testing!! :sunglasses:

It looks like you’re going to have a great mix when you get the test results you’re looking for. Feels like we’re one step closer to seeing you grow some magnificent weed!! :star_struck:

Welcome @CARE_giver !! Happy to have you join in on the action! The thread goes quiet due to too many projects currently under way, but I promise to follow through.

Ive used ProMix for quite some time but usually go for the premiere as it has been untouched and processed. I would usually add my own perlite/pumice along with myco. This was what was available locally, so I’m sticking with it for this project. I will make a new batch this week and try to have the next round of tests within the next two weeks for everyone. I figured if anyone had questions as to what should be added to their soil, these results will help them navigate that often dark road. :green_heart:

@Oldtimerunderground I can’t wait much longer myself. I’m glad to see you’re happy and healthy bud. The mix looks to be fairly close for a first go, I don’t think I’ll need to do many more tests before I’m comfortable with it. I’ve purchased all the insulation sheets to finish out the space, So Im gonna have to squeeze in time to finish it out and get the ventilation up. I did purchase another AC infinity tent, so I’ll begin test fitting it all here real soon. The next major purchases will be meters and potentially a split ac unit. Fingers crossed I can get it done soon.:green_heart:

Soil test looks pretty good from my end. I wouldn’t be upset using it just as it is.

Moving that pH may prove to be difficult. There is nothing wrong with a pH of 7.1 IMO.

I wouldn’t worry about the sulfur number, cannabis uses lots of sulfur. So, I would keep the gypsum for the calcium despite the sulfur.

The excess sodium I likely coming from the fish meal, fish bone meal, and kelp meals. It’s not too high though. You could use soft rock phosphate (calphos) in place of the fish bone meal.

Dropping the dolomite might be a good idea. I’m not a fan of the excess magnesium. Pro Mix already has lime, plus you have lime in your mix (oyster shell flour).

Your micros look okay, smart move adding that TM-7 into the mix. Maybe needs a little boron (dont shoot me), manganeese and copper. A few applications of that TM-7 as a foliar should make up for it.

Thanks for the input @ReikoX
I agree completely. I was hoping, removing the Dolomite would help with the ph and bring down the mag.

I’m not set on pulling the gypsum just yet. My plan on adding other amendments would help offset the removal, like iron sulfate. In theory anyway. I do like my levels of calcium for sure.

I knew the salt levels would be raised from the fish inputs, but getting a number to go off of was important. I’m glad the levels were not as bad as I thought they would be. I am gonna add some rock phosphate to get some numbers as well.

I think I will try some Azomite and get some numbers. Iron, boron and mang. I agree need to come up just a tad. :green_heart::seedling:

I hope round two provides more info for this project.

Thank you @Calix !! I had to step back from this particular space as It has since been occupied. Not over but a road block none the less for the time being. That said, 2024 will be a better year.

This was last years co op, LA Confidential and GG#4.

Not much remains, so the story must continue!!

Alright well, back at it. It’s not often I have a Monday off so I am enjoying myself! The Lab is off limits for the time being, I will have to make do until things return back to normal. Continuing on still.:man_health_worker:

                  2024

Getting back to business. I want to thank everyone who previously followed along and apologize for the brief interruption in normal programming. I will continue my documentation here so I don’t pollute the airways too much. Love you all! :green_heart::pray:

This will be my place for most postings so all projects can be found here one way or another.

I also started two Black Tuna and one London Pound Cake freebie. I have a ton of freebies with one and two seeds in most of them so I figured I could fill in some space.:seedling:

12 hours after soak the LPK is showing its root, I will let them go another 6 hours before planting.

I should have a few other goodies to add to the garden soon :crossed_fingers:. Hoping to get my choice of mothers back up again. Looking to get one or two more tents running as well.

Happy Monday All!

@G-paS Thank you for the kind words! I hope all is well with you and thanks for stopping in!

Welcome back all, I hope everyone had a happy hump day. Just posting an update on the situation. Lemon Pound Cake sprouted early morning with helmet head, and by the time of my returning had almost lost it. I helped in removal of the shell with success.

In with the others she goes!

I’ve had no luck with the Black Tuna so I placed the seeds in a strip of my aloe plant hoping to see signs of life… :crossed_fingers:

Brewing up a compost tea for the kiddos. I will foiler spray and light water with the tea tomorrow.:green_heart::seedling:

Have a great rest of the week! :green_heart:
