Old school nft systems anyone still using

Right been thinking about the old days and the old nft gully tables (witch I can’t find my old photos of) got me thinking where did they all go and does anyone still run them or Mayby someone clued up have plans to make one I think I would like to try build one and give it one last play but unsure where to start

Have built them out of 6" square fence post but have seen people use round pvc pipe. Drop some net pots in w/ a pump and return lines and you’re done. What kind of concerns do you have?

I need to figure out fall rate and pump size for say a little 9 pot 3 row for a 4x4 the last one I ran was for 8x8 and I can’t remember what pump that was either to get made it’s too expensive but I can get all the parts easily for something like this

There used to be a lot of info but it seems to have been buried

Ok ok thats pretty specific, hope someone will know what you need.

If you have any pump to test you could get a good indication, for a 3 row setup maybe looking around ~500gph pump (depending on head height) but that is a broad guess. maybe even less if you are feeding w/ 1/4" lines like that picture

1 cm on every 10m is what plumbers use for fall to flush a turd through.
Shouldn’t be a big deal on your table i guess.
I just assume it’s not 100m long…but who knows…hehe

Edit: I it’s 1cm to 1.10m …because i got high :face_with_peeking_eye:

From quickly reading notes on NFT systems used for vegetables:

Between 1:30-1:40 angle; or 2-3% grade slope.

This is the baseline and you endlessly tweak from there. All the best of success!

This might be a decent resource.

Yo that’s my boys ^^^

Yobro, I was laughing because I went through some very old harddrives the other night and came across pics of my old NFT operation - “HydroHeads”…at one time I believe this was the biggest hydro op in S. Thailand!

I laughed when I started thinking of just how many clones I could produce in that setup today! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Being in the tropics, NFT was problematic! The thin film of water heats up way to fast! Ended up having to install a chiller to the water tank which helped the beginnings of each row, but wasn’t enough to make them jump for joy! Good luck and keep posting!

:call_me_hand:

PS No matter what size pump you have/get, you can build a manifold with 2 valves, one leg of which goes to the NFT table and the other just acts as a ‘return’ line to your tank. Then just play around with the flows through the 2 lines until you get the flow you want. Means you can enlarge your system later without having to buy a new pump!

Ahh that makes sense I’ll look into it haha yea that’s huge it was the main way of hydro back in the day here was no problems with temps but I can see it being problematic elsewhere edit I don’t know where all the old pics off the internet vanished to either
