Actually the answer from the artist was that it wasnt theirs any more and that they didn’t remember who requested it. Cant find the person it was made for, it’s not being used for financial gain and has been altered. As I said to Greyfox, it’s up to him if he wants to use it.

so, it was a commissioned piece that someone paid for their exclusive use, but because you can’t find them you think it is ok to simply “alter” it and use at will. That’s not how copyright works, but I see you don’t care.

If there is not a copyright you can do what you want. If the artist doesn’t care about it enough to protect it then he is careless. IMHO I use Mr Natural all day. He don’t give a shit.

So this is wrong? Also the whole I dont care bit is crap, I didn’t go through all the trouble of trying to track people down, emailing the artist etc because I dont care. Since I could not get a definitive answer I told Greyfox it was up to him whether to use it or not.
Edit: Hey @monkeyman , since you feel your position is right and Shadeys is wrong and you are so interested in protecting whoever it was this pic was made for how about you be a nice guy and help track down that person for Greyfox?

Unless someone commissioned the piece and had it copyrighted for sentimental reasons, I can’t see how using an altered version of this piece for non-business purposes would impinge on anyone’s business interests. Legally speaking, I don’t think you’d be facing any more than a cease and desist letter from their lawyers, even assuming they do somehow stumble across you using it and feel that their business is being threatened - which is rather unlikely.
