One Papaya seed, 38W LED (19Wx2), Organic Soil

Yeah it seems to work better closer up for sure. Can’t wait to get the double height adjustable lights so I can stop stacking random things up lol.

The stacking never ends. I have paint cans and various blocks of wood everywhere. It’s like a stoner jenga :books:

Yeah no kidding I just tried to make this all nice and I still ended up stacking a paint can on and SNES box somehow!

Oh well, at least now I have a solid 38W of LED Veg power! lol. This is the bathroom shelf I’ve always dreamed of.

Still gotta get that fan in somewhere good and get height adjustable mounts for those light a too. Then I can take the middle shelf out when the plants grow too tall… in a couple days.

Day 38:

Doubled the lighting and make it even closer. I’m seeing the results and I think she’s thirsty. The 12V computer fan still blows from the sink area now. nice gentle breeze and in the low 70’s.

I seems the new growth continues to have blotching and yellowing to some extent. Definitely going to pH buffer my soil and reduce the additives in the future.
I just wanted to be aggressive and see what happens. People have obviously established the /gal max for things like bone meal, blood meal, kelp meal. I have a feeling it was an excess nutrient content in my soil AND/too much acidity. I’ll just play it safe and reduce the additives ~20% and lime up my mix a little.

Day 39:

8 a.m.

Topped both new growths up top and pruned away those first leaves on the lower growth.

Watered until I saw about a cm or so of pooled water in the tray below. I think I need to give more water than that. This soil mix has over 40% perlite after all… I think it could benefit from more thorough watering. This is also what I thought a couple times ago and then I double watered but that became an over watering situation. Possibly why those blotches started. I am starting to get a feel for it though.

Still looks like yellowing on the tips of the new growth now! Stem shows purple in areas… seems to be thickening up.

Day 40:

Seems to want water every other day now, about 48 hours. I believe the humidity is a little on the low side but the temp and air flow are great! I just mounted the 12V “ceiling fan” to blow the warmth down from the lights. The basement runs a little cool. With those two lights and fan on I’m getting 73ish when the plants are almost touching them… cooler as you get further from the lights, the floor and the tiles are always in the low 50s. So I’m happy with how this looks. It’s only for veg anyhow so to have this as bathroom decor is definitely getting two birds stoned at once. Even friends and family who don’t smoke weed will have to appreciate the the look and smell of this Papaya as they shit in my bathroom.

It doesn’t take rocket appliances to see that’s growing well.

Day 41:

Watered about 24 hours ago. I really watered it well this time. These trays under the pot help me water the right amount because this time I let a full inch of run off collect and it was all absorbed in less that 24 hours. When I got home last night the plant was praying and grew right into the light. So out comes the shelf and the stoner jenga resumes.

Probably will water again 3 days after the last one to make sure I don’t over water, so on Thursday.

So pick the pot up and feel the weight. It gets to light you will know. 3 days may be too long …if the leaves droop then it is not happy. Try to keep it happy.

Man that thing is getting huge now, it’s gonna be a shrub by the time you chuck it outside!

Weight is always a good test for watering, sticking a finger in the top and bottom of the pot is fun too haha. It seems like you’ve got the rhythm of it now.

Day 42:

No water yet, tomorrow I will. I think with a thorough soaking I can still go about 3 days right now. The pot feels like it’s got some water weight still I think.

New growth looks healthy!

When I rub those big dark green fan leaves the smell is definitely as advertised. Sharp scent of Papaya fruit juice on my fingers. I want to eat these leaves. Smells so good!

I eat fan leaves all the time…some are pretty tasty!

Day 43:

Pruned and watered.

I got rid of those middle fan leaves that all seemed to have something wrong with them. It also opened up the two lower branches to the light. All the new growth seems to be doing ok. Looking forward to topping all four of those growth sites and keeping this thing multiplying into a big bush… And that smelled really good pruning those leaves off lol. @beacher I resisted eating the leaves, they smelled so good but I’m not there yet.

Looking good, and once you’re baked enough in there you’ll start munching lol. I dream that one day I could eat a fan leaf and taste different nutrient deficiencies like a weed whisperer.

God dayum bro she’s growing!! Since I last looked it seems to have nearly doubled :+1:

Day 44:

The plant absorbed all that overrun water. The tips of the new growth look yellow. We’ll see how this comes in…

Tip burn is generally a sign of overfeeding, but the rest of the leaves look ok so its hard to say…

Day 45:

That may have been a little bit of an excessive watering/ soil too strong… And with all the amendments in the soil it just steeps tea in the saucer underneath. I’m glad I got these saucers incidentally. They really help you see how much water your putting through, and there’s nowhere for it to go so it’s helping me dial it in better. The plant certainly absorbed all that water in less than a day, but it may have been a little bit of a strong brew.

I think I will just dial back the amendments and add that dolomite lime for future transplants and see how that goes. I have definitely got a feel for the watering frequency vs pot size&root mass size. i.e. evaporation vs absorption. So I will hopefully continue to see better results with my next seedlings.

Are you planning on transplanting into bigger pots? Looking good I’d be concerned they will get root bound before flowering finishes
