Overgrow Mobile App

I’ve been experimenting with Overgrow as a mobile app for a while now, and I must say the user experience has improved. Finally, Apple has allowed push messages, but unfortunately, they don’t get delivered on time for me. Still, it has some benefits and feels more like an app than a website.

To be clear, it’s not a native mobile app – it’s something called a PWA (Progressive Web Application). Hopefully, both Google (Android) and Apple (iOS) will continue to actively develop their support, and over time PWAs could reach the same level of user-friendliness as native apps.

Installing Overgrow.com as a PWA

Android (Chrome/Edge)

  1. Open Chrome or Edge browser
  2. Navigate to Overgrow.com
  3. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right
  4. Select “Add to Home screen” or “Install app”
  5. Confirm by tapping “Add” or “Install”
  6. The app icon will appear on your home screen

iOS (Safari/Chrome)

  1. Open Safari or Chrome browser
  2. Go to Overgrow.com
  3. Tap the Share button (□↗) at the bottom
  4. Scroll down and select “Add to Home Screen”
  5. Edit the name if desired, then tap “Add”
  6. The app icon will appear on your home screen

Once installed, the PWA will launch like a native app with its own icon and run in fullscreen mode without browser navigation bars.

Don’t forget to enable notifications.

Small plug: the PWAs for things like Gmail and Google Docs are awesome. Many people like the “old school” feel of having some stuff not as “just another tab” in the browser. Works so awesome on desktop/mac.

Is this something new? I been using this format since I joined. Had the home screen icon and same layout

Not really. The support for push notifications on iOS is relatively new feature.

It’s by far the best layout I have used on mobile. At first i was kinda lost but after a few weeks the ease of navigation and control offers way more than a regular forum.

I’ve been using the mobile app since I started, and in fact, it’s the only one I use — it’s very intuitive and practical.

I’ve been using it since I joined OG!

I love how you keep improving on it; do you think it can be made to give us notifications?
