Part 2: Fun with Ace - Panama/Malawi/Haze

Hmmmm scrumptious, I really gotta try and germ those old Grapefruit I have.
The way I remember them, they had more of an indica leaf, medium stretch with HUGE colas.
You could top and train them, then they would become hella branchy, or they were also great for SOG when cloned, 2 week veg and flipped, big citrusy sour colas.
I really would like to pop them, but I got so many others to try and so little time lol

It definitely started out with more indica/hybrid looking leaves on the bottom. The more it stretches and grows, the more narrow the leaves are becoming. That’s pretty common IME for sativa’s that have some indica influence in them somewhere along the line.

If I get a baby with very narrow leaves, I usually think of those are the most pure sativas. Not sure if that’s completely correct, just an observation.

On a side note, the smell of the jack is very similar right now. And I know that grapefruit is part c99, which is also part jack.

I don’t think it’s really known what the “Mexican sativa” is that they used in grapefruit. Any guesses?

Not a clue, I didn’t know c99 was part Jack either lol. I have a real lack of knowledge of lineage on strains, but working on it

Flower Day 27

So these all got pollinated earlier in the week. So far, everybody is happy and well. I added a tomato support to the panama haze, and I’m spiraling around the branches on it. It’s going to run for a long time, and I want it to have good support. As long as it doesn’t grow more than about 3 more feet, it’s going to be great.

Found some spare Romex wire in the basement. Cut the sleeving and pull out 3x copper wire twist ties.

Panama Haze

Grapefruit

Jack H (two in back) Wild Thai (front)

Jack H

Pulled the panama haze and grapefruit out for 1 last pollination. The PH is developing ever so slowly. I think we’re only about 1/3rd of the way into its flower cycle… oof. Glad I put it on a tomato stand. It’s pretty wily. Grapefruit is really a nice plant. For only having 1 seed to go off of, I’m really happy with it. Super fragrant sweet ruby red smell, large nugs and pretty narrow leaves. It’s probably going to finish under 70 and yield pretty well.

The Jack H and Wild Thai are looking great. Don’t look a bit like “sativas” to me, but hybrids never really do. They have a short stature that’s really nice though. Wild Thai is just very perplexing… It’s certainly not like any Thai I’ve grown before. However, it’s actually a really nice plant and I’m really enjoying the smells and structure.

Really nice structure on the grapefruit.

I love the looks of your un-topped Grapefruit. Because of a low ceiling, I have only grown them topped. About how tall is the Grapefruit?

She’s a really nice size for indoor growing. Mine is 38" from the top of the pot, and about 46" to the floor. Not as short as the Jack H and Wild Thai next to her though. They’ve stayed surprisingly very short.

Panama Haze

Jack H / Wild Thai

The grapefruit continues to be the star of the show here. A little more than 3 weeks left for her. Panama haze is quite finicky, and will run quite a bit longer.

Man, I really love Grapefruit colas!!
Great call, pushing them 10 weeks, those colas are gonna be SO dense, you can get some serious weight, cause they can get so dense.
Even the lower buds as you can tell. Great strain for SOG.
Looking great man.
How’s the smell? Sickly sweet?

Smell on the grapefruit is just like ruby red. Definitely more of a sweet grapefruit than tart/sour.

I think it’s going to be a good yield. It’s stealing the show in my tent right now. The seedsman jacks aren’t going to produce nearly as much. Panama Haze isn’t going to yield nearly as much either, but it’s a pure sativa.

I’ll have some more pics this weekend. I think the lower yielding Jack might even be done by then.

Jack H (early pheno)

Wild Thai

Grapefruit

Can’t believe these are all going so quickly. I’m gonna be out of town for a couple days, so I’m thinking about cutting one of the Jacks. The other Jack looks pretty different, and also probably won’t be ready for another week.

Wild Thai can probably sit for another week, grapefruit looks like 2 weeks and some change.

I think the grapefruit is my only worthy keeper in this batch; however with probably another 50 days to go, the panama haze probably still hasn’t played its hand. And there could be some very nice crosses to come out of it.

That grapefruit looks like it will be a heavy yielder if it still has a couple weeks

Flower Day 63

Grapefruit / wild thailand.

These two are coming to a finish probably in another week. I think the GF is right on track at 70 days, finishing from the top down. Seeds from this one should be :fire:

The w. thai is pretty meh, but it smells nice. I probably won’t grow it again any time soon, unless the smoke really blows me away. I have more seeds, so if that were the case, I’d probably start over and find a better pheno.

One of the Jack H was harvested last week. Both are pretty meh anyway. Last is the panama haze. It has many weeks left, and the yield will be rather small. I did keep a clone in veg, and might run a clone to produce either a BX with the Malawi/Panama cross, or an IX with a Panama Haze x Destroyer cross that I have… if I like it enough to want to work with it more later on.
