I suck at growing auto fems outdoors, this is less than 7" tall…this is the first time growing auto fems, I never grew them purposely, accidentally yes…

But I kick ass on growing regular seeds…

My next grow in my Phototrons will be auto fems, this will be the first time that I will be growing auto fems and I will succeed…

Phototron Original $49
I remember these were several hundred $$$$ in '85 when I ran up my buddy’s moms phone bill listening to Demarco’s recorded sales pitch.

I not call that last Pic “working”.
Define working
What size plants can be done
What is the average yield?
I can flower with a flashlight (led)
50k lum lol
But why?
It looks like 8 4 foot tubes?
The power consumption and yield
Will not ever justify these things
Imo
I can pull 2 zips off a 20 inch plant using 97 watts under my Mars.
Can a tron do that?
Sure i could kill a boar at 20 yards with Gamo .22 pellet gun
But I rather have my 30.06.
To each his own.

I only bought 1 Phototron, the other 8 were given to me because they wanted a certain strain of clone only strains…this plant was grown in a Phototron…if you’re a Phototron hater stay off this thread…

I just pulled a 4” tall auto that grew in my compost/soil pile behind the garage. Smelled nice, but the 2 buds it had weren’t even big enough to roll 1 joint. It was the silliest saddest thing ever. I tossed it in the trash
Autos are weird sometimes. :joy:

Back in the day I didn’t have much info on the Tron other than the ad in HT and DeMarco’s recorded sales pitch. Turns out I was doing basically the same as the Tron in my closet minus the side lighting and hydro (Horizontal 4ft T8 Fluorescent’s in soil). I found plenty of used Tron’s on crglst last night but deleted the post as it seemed like it would have been considered advertising here. Good show!

:joy:

The idea was to maximize bud sites in a small footprint. Basically you’re turning the plant into one big bud!

Thanks to @PTron above (Phototrons...SWC/TRON - #256 by PTron) for the old manual pictures!

Better late than never as they say.

Pulls up a chair for the Grow show. Some fine looking budage up to.
Some right fat heads.

Yes

Yes , the more lights the better…you might be able to use those new under cabinet LED lights…these are 4ft. long but I’ve also seen them in 2ft. lengths also…

I’ve repurposed mine for clones and seedlings with just a single overhead grow bulb 60watts or so. Key thing is the reflective surfaces for light dispersion if they’re in good shape. I had to remove and replace the film on mine. I also removed the ballast and fixtures in order to get easier access to interior.

The amazing thing is even after 30 years, the shit works, even my original feed a Tron. The hype was heavy about yields, but the basic concept is still viable if you find one cheap or free. I’ve thought of just using one HLG QB board suspended above the plants with the driver mounted outside. That may happen down the road.

I’d never read the original instructions in detail for years and when I decided to start growing inside again I figured I’d see if the thing even worked. It did and that led me back to the original directions.
Sphagnum moss (regular and milled available from Mosser Lee) AND micorrizae is mentioned in the setup instructions. I’d no idea how important that was (of course no Google back then either) and I’ve been using micorrizae along with seed starter in a liquid spray bottle along with microkote for nursery pots.

The knowledge available today is dangerous for impulsive types like myself. My best advice is keep it simple as possible and if it works don’t go chasing the bright shiny objects on the net if you can avoid that……

Grow on

Trouble in paradise, this clone is not doing well…so I took it outa my SWC/TRON system and planted it in my veggie garden…it should’ve perked up by now, as I said I didn’t want this clone go to waste…

It should perk up in a few days now that its outside and should start to flower by the 2nd. week of August…

I think I fucked up because I used some very old nutes that I found in my garage…these nutes are way over 10+ yrs. old…

Kick ass seems to be a relatively term.

Man im not dumping on you but what a waste of time.

I haven’t seen kick ass anything in this thread
If I missed something forgive me.
One 600 watt led would be 100 times better than what I seen here.

The thing is so narrow its not worth the time for much.

Folks don’t grow with them because they are archaic shit lol.

Anyway do whatever but I seen a huge waste of time.
I’m not going to pump you up with oh yes you shit looks awesome, I’m more of a friend that will tell you the truth, if I come off mean it’s not my intention, only to kick you in the ass
In the Right direction.

Look at these plants, 3 LEDs
Can that dinosaur do this?
No fucking way lol
Good luck

I ran 2 separate rooms back in the day, 1K MH and 1K HPS, I run SWC/TRON because I like them…I could care less about your tiny ass POS 600 watt grows…you have nothing on me…

My grow rooms now are mother nature…
